I received the same text on Feb. 6.  I couldn't think of any reason why my mortgate company would send me a vague text message with a non-800 number.  Glad to see that I was right that it was a scam.  How do these people get cell numbers?

I have received a few different texts from similar saying things like "Urgent: Debit-Card Starting With 5424 Is Frozen Call 6269239990" or a similar number with 626 area code. I don't even live in California.  The first letters are in capital letters, this is a super scam. who is my2@metropcs.com, thats the culprit.

Forward by e-mail the info to the FBI. This is a California phone number and there's gotta be some crook at the other end. Someone will get burnt by this creep.

Feb 6, 2011 at 2:25 p.m. Central time.  Received Alert Call, supposedly from Fifth Third Bank.  At least three other people I know who have Illinois Valley Cellular phones received the same.  None of us have any dealings with Fifth Third.

Same here - 4th text msg on my MetroPCS phone in 24 hrs, varying slightly but all referring to a 5/3 account.
Apart from not having an account there, none of my banks would send me a text message like that, unprofessional spelling and all, let alone 4 slightly different messages? So clearly a scam. I can't believe people fall for this.

If you ever want to check on the status of a bank account, call the bank's 800 nr, or better yet your local branch. Actually the first thing I would do is check my account on line.

Both my husband and I just received the same "Alert Call" on our cell phones supposedly from Fifth Third. Didn't try to call the number since we have no accounts with them. I did, however, shoot off an email to Fifth Third since their account holders need to be made aware of this. These people could do some serious damage.

I have received a message on my metro pcs telephone saying, "Urgent: Issue on card starting with 52432 Call at 6269239990" .  I checked all my cards, and I don't have any card with those numbers. Immediately, I called the telephone they gave me, and it's only a machine asking for your 16 digit card numbers in order to activate "my card". What card??? I am worry now. Maybe somebody is getting a new credit card with my name???. I am going to report this situation.

I keep getting the alleged "5/3" txts too. Its a scam. Ive read alot online about these scams and for some reason the most common bank that the scammers use is 5/3. I dont even have an account at fifth third. Just BEWARE and DO NOT give out any info over the phone. Although im sure it works on many people. Wish I could get my hands on the guys behind this. Always from 626-923-9990 too. The guys can barely spell and the txts just look funny. LOL  Nice try MORONS!!!

This sounds like a SCAM

I Called the number and they don't identify who they are.  But they do ask for a 16 digit card number to restore it.
What kind of legitimate company doesn't say who they are ???  CAUTION IS A MUST
