You must be part of this company and you did not read all the post. So let me educate you. This company is calling people who do not owe or never applied for a loan and yet they are getting threating calls from a bogus attorney stating they will call the police and get them arrested at home or at work which BTW it is illegal, furthermore the callers cannot even speak ENGLISH.

So before you decide to call and pretend you are an attorney or an officer of the law, I?ll suggest you look at the law itself because you are in violation of local and federal laws for impersonating and official and FTC laws as well.

You can view the law at this link http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection.

I've been getting calls from this number for the past couple weeks now.  I have no loans, pay all of my bills in full (and with cash), don't have a credit card, and don't have a cell phone.  There's no reason for these people to be calling me (and hence the reason I don't answer).  However, I can't seem to get these scum bags to stop calling me.  When they decide to leave me a message, they only go "Hello...Hello" for a few seconds and then hang up.  Nothing that identifies the company, what they are calling about, etc.

Debt Collector
It's amazing how people owe this money and want to not pay it just because it's been years as if the debt is going to disappear, regardless of the fact that when you used the phone, cable or internet service and ran up credit card bills you weren't saying that then, nothing in this world is free. And if collecting this debt was so wrong and illegal there wouldn't be any debt collection agencies, people get their license and bonds to even run this type of business. They spend a lot of money to operate it, so telling them to get a real job it is a real job people sound like idiots. What you shouldn't do is open up credit and abuse services you can't afford then you wouldn't be in debt, just like if you don't pay rent you'll be evicted. Once the debt is bought by a 2nd or 3rd party don't you realize that now you owe money still to the new owners which can attach their name to your credit report which is probably already in default cause it seems most of you like skipping out on your bills anyways, now you can't even apply for anything else that's why some of you prob don't care cause your credits screwed. Bottom line no matter how old the debt, you still owe somebody. That's why Americas gone to s*** now. People abandoning their responsibilities. And yes as a consumer I pay my bills and try hard to stay out of debt. And yes I have had debt, paid some and still paying.

I got a call first from 631-247-9920 telling me they're callin about a prelegal matter for US Bank. The lady said they were about to proceed in court. I told her I never had a US Bank account and she said were are proceeding anyway. The next week i get a call from a recording from 1-888-576-1260. I spoke with someone else and she said she is calling about a case number and did I receive my court papers in the mail. I told her no and she said if you dont resolve this now we are suing you. She told me there company name is Credit Star Financial. However, thats untrue because I called when they were closed and the answering machine says Credit Smart located in New York. I researched and found out credit star financial is located in California. However, they are not located in California and they're name isn't credit star financially as they keep insisting. There name is credit smart located in New York. I told her never had an account with Us Bank and she kept saying i dont believe you and hung up on me. They competely misrepresent there name which is against the law. They have 84 complaints with the Better Business Bureau with a F rating. Compete scammers.

I got a call from these idiots yesterday. This is the first time I have received it, but it doesn't look like it will be my last. They asked for my husband regarding a "debt" from Best Buy from 1998 or 1999. Funny thing she couldn't tell me exactly when it happened. She messed with the wrong person though. I used to work for a lawyer and knew that she couldn't threaten legal action unless I had been provided with documentation of the debt. Once I started telling her these things she started being very quiet. She also said that the address they have on file for us has been sent documentation since 2010, but we didn't even live there until late 2011. She proceeded to ask me for my new address (hubby is in military) to which I replied, I'm not giving you a single piece of information, you can send the papers on this case to the address you have and there is a forward on with the post office so it will get to me. I also know someone that works in the Asset Protection department of Best Buy so I immediately called her and she is going to look into this for me. First things out of her mouth was it was fraud. I am so tired of these companies that call and think they can bully you. I wish I could get paid to be a jerk. I hope that people are becoming more aware of these and not providing personal information to them like bank stuff. This is just a way for them to clean you out. She also asked me if I would be willing to submit an offer for a settlement. I told her that she could send me the proof of the debt and then once we could verify it was legit then we would discuss a settlement, and that I needed to talk to my attorney before we do that. Looks like the statute of limitations was up about 4 years ago if it was a credit card debt so I'm not to worried. Also, they claim that they don't report this to your credit because its to much of a pain to have it removed. RED FLAG!!!! All debt has to be reported to your credit especially if it is with a "collection company" and there is a judgement being filed against you.  The caller ID read the 631-247-9920 number and said CS Processing, however the lady said she worked for Credit Star Finance

Recieved call yesterday on cell saying to call by 888 662 1779 and refer to claim nbr...Also said call was for a David Sandfor.   When I called they answered "is this David Sandfor?"  I said  "no" and asked who they were.  She would not give me information.  Said they would remove from calling.  I tried to keep insisting they tell me who they were.  She said they could not reveal.   Now here is the strange thing.   They also call my home telephone with same message.  I called back again...she said the exact same thing.  Still would not tell me who they are.  I threaten to call the police.  She hung up.  I am really concerned that someone has both numbers.

Have received 2 calls on my business phone from this cs processing but they leave a recorded message looking for someone I have never heard of and stating a case number.  It's the 1-888 number then on the caller ID it's the 631-247-9920.  At first I thought it was a client calling but when I listened more intently I realized it was something I won't even deal with and I deleted the messages.

I don't have any debts in collection on the business or personal side.  Don't ever give out any personal information about yourself to anyone that calls you.  And if you do have a legitimate debt you'll receive a letter from the debtor, not a phone call threatening you.

My husband got a call on his cell phone from these clowns the other day looking for me, using my maiden name! Funny thing is...we have been married for 7 yrs & I haven't had my maiden name for 17 yrs! They tried my cell last night. We never answer to a number we don't know. Thank you for the tips on here about this company. I am really hoping they don't involve my ex in laws our ex husband.

Scam!  I received voicemail last Friday from this number.  They do not say who they are, only that it is regarding a 'personal business matter'.  They said it was for a name of someone I do not know.  Today I received another call from this same number and let it go to voicemail.  This time they asked for a different person that I also do not know.  I then went online to my account with my cell phone provider and blocked the number.  For the service I have, this is only good for 90 days, but I'll take 3 months of peace over them calling every couple of days!

These people are trying to collect debts on extremely old collections that are no longer in the statue of limitations! Don't fall for a thing! They cannot collect , they cannot take legal action, and they cant keep harassing you legally if you ask them to no longer have contact with you. I am not sure how they are getting our phone numbers but I dont even have facebook, so it isn't from there. Someone mentioned they could be obtaining copies of your credit report. How they can do this is beyond me. The debt they say I owe is a credit card company, of which, I still have a card with and have never been late ever!!!! I called my card company and they told me that I am fine! I called the local police and I made a report to the FTC. Don't give them any info!!!!

So nobody fall for this SCAM and there are others just like them also..so be careful who your giving your credit/debit card information too...

I think they're getting our phone number from Facebook (which I have deleted). It would also explain how they find your family and call them. I called US Bank and they are aware of the scam and are investigating.  I was told that I had a checking acct. with US Bank (which I've NEVER had) and that there was an outstanding check from when I closed the acct. in 2005. I refused to settle the debt of $1200 (she wanted me to pay that night) so she (susposedly her name was Meredith St. Clare) gave me a phone which is legit. according to their answering machine. It's for US Bank's debt recovery. I haven't had time to call them yet. I have since enrolled in an Identity Monitoring program just to be on the safe side. Not sure how to stop the calls tho...

It looks as though this "agency" has finally learned its lesson. They break Federal and State laws and expect to be treated fairly. Well, that ain't gonna to happen. Many of you have had enough of their empty threats and reported them to the nessasary law enforcement agencies. To you i say, Congrats! Stay the course and let them know you won't put up with it.....

I've been getting calls from these people and I did get scammed for one payment because I was half asleep when they called and wasn't thinking clearly. Needless to say, I changed my card number. The only thing I can find out about them, about ANY debt they've tried to collect from anyone, EVER, has been a time barred debt, or some other uncollectable debt. I just received 2 calls from them this morning. I am NOT happy about it either. I am so done with these idiots! I have submitted a report to the Attorney General about them. I also searched my credit report, and I do have the debt they're claiming they're trying to collect. However, I contacted the company it was sold to, and they have no record of it EVER leaving their company, EVER!

TO ALL; don't fall for these scammers. they aren't worth it. don't be afraid. Their time will come. They have an "F" rating with the BBB. Many Attorney Generals are aware of the Federal and State laws they have broken. today at 2:46 pm, i received a phone call from them and said, "do not call, or communicate with me ever again. Destroy any and all documents that has my name, ss# etc. on it." I then hung up. if they continue to call, they can be charged with a crime. And may have to pay up to $5,000.00 per call after that. Check out your state laws to see what you can do. And to Amber, call your police dept. You do not have to be afraid for yourself or your family.

Basically it is a 3rd party collection agency who has purchased a written off debt from a company who purchased it from another company and so. Usually it is over 7 years old and they try and get you to pay for something that no longer has any weight on your credit report.

OMG these people called my step mother who I am already not on good terms with, and now my step mother is freaking out on me because these scum bags told her that I used her name and # as a reference. I haven't had any bills in my name in years, but she is PISSED! She told me she gave them my number and my address and now I am scared. I am trying to find out if she really did or not, because I think I may need to call the police. I don't know who those people are, or what they want, and I do not want to risk the safety of my son. I just lied to them and told them I didn't know who they were asking for when they called. They seemed okay with that. We will see if they call back.

Thanks to everyone who posted here. Just got a call from these turkeys about an hour ago. The number that showed up on my caller ID was 631-247-9920 and the company's name was CS Processing. The number that they gave to call back was 888-416-4980. They gave a 6 digit file number, but no contact person. Only said that it was regarding a "personal business matter".  Then 15 seconds later, they called my cell phone and left the same message. ( I only answer either phone if I know who the caller is). Glad to know I am not the only person this has happened to! Don't know if I should ignore them if they call again or answer the phone and have them for supper! Oh, yes. One more thing: They totally got my middle name wrong when they left the message!

My husband didnt have any loans in the time frame they say he did.  He then payed everything with cash. There is however another guy with the same name. But instead of harassing him they are harassing my husband now.  How do you respond to that. Plus they buy over 18 yrs of info and harass.  Stop sticking up for the bullies.  The elderly don't need the harrassment.  You probably work for these bullies.

Make them leave a message. They called a week later and a day after that. I want to answer as my husbands secratary and tellthem they are being recorded from now on and I want their address for my lawyer office. And if they dont give me their address thats fine because my lawyer told me he can get it online.

First, don't worry, they are lying when they threaten you.

They got the information because massive numbers of people have had their information stolen from one place or another.  It could have been taken from anywhere ranging from the VA to a credit card processor in India.  Welcome to our brave new world.

Your husband's response was excellent.  You probably will not hear from them again, but you may hear from someone else like them.  The trick is, as you have learned, to hit them hard and fast when they call.  Make it clear that you know they are powerless, there will be no garnishment, arrest, lawsuit, plague of locusts, or whatever the threat is, that this is a scam, and you aren't falling for it.

One thing I will warn you about - if a female (of any age) picks up the phone when these types of scammers call, they will frequently say some really nasty things to you for shock value.  Knowing about it ahead may help you to respond to it.  I always liked the line, "I'm sorry, I don't do miniatures, but I understand that you do goats and little boys", then hang up.  Obviously, you want to ignore the follow up call back which comes a couple of minutes later.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>
