I started getting texts about a month ao... barrow money, refinance a home, "free Apple gift"... how do you block them? the number is different every time.

Reported them to GoDaddy. Make sure you save the message so you can report its full contents. And enter the domain name as "myfreeoffersite.com"

On 2/7/2012 I recv'd a text message from this number claiming I won a Best Buy Gift Card. I just replied "STOP," the universal message for opting out.

This is so incredibly frustrating, and it makes me angry that perhaps my personal info is being sold.

I'm with "Rodman." I'll report them to godaddy. Even though they'll probably just set up shop elsewhere.

myfreeoffer.com is a godaddy website.  Report them to Godaddy and let's shut them down.

So I got one of the messages and new right away it was a scam. I have some background in, let's just say investigation work, so I tracked these hooligans down and it turned out to be some whole in the wall shop down by the beach. Looked like a gamers paradise with all these computers and setups, but anyways, found the guy in charge down there and gave him a peice of my mind... and phone. He's probably still trying to pass that iPhone. Scum bags.

This number claimed that I won a free best buy gift card from myfreeoffersite.con/bestbuy

Texts that they are Best Buy and when you call the number a male voice states "I'm gonna kill you b@tch!"

Sent a text saying I need to go to a escort site I find this  VERRY Repulsive and embarrassing

Received a text message from 631-398-2764 thanking me for my recent Best Buy purchase and whomever this is want to offer me a $1000 gift card.  I should go to www.myfreeoffersite.com to claim it.
I know this is a hoax as my Best Buy account is closed and I have not used that card in years.

Got the very same text message everyone else here did except the number mine came from was 818-274-2749.
Obviously a scam, but wanted to warn everyone the number is definately rotating.

my message from this number said thanks for your recent purchase at best  
buy. when i called the number listed on the text message this mans recording came on and said he was waiting for call and he is going to f*%#ing kill me!

When they catch whoever it is they should make them pay each person for every amount that they say they have been rewarded.Bet that would teach the scammers a lesson! :-)

My husband & I are sweepstakers. As such, we know that companies would notify you by UPS, FEDEX, or USPS and most likely would send a letter that you sign and have notorized.  Companies do call sometimes, but they would identify themselves.  This text is a new twist that I haven't heard of before!

This is a version of the automatic debit scam as described by the FTC here http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/telemarketing/tel06.shtm  It's frequently mysterious as to how they got your account info in the first place. They might be fraudulently charging accounts at random, or you might have provided your account for a free something like $-off coupon or a shopping card (just pay for shipping), or provided your account when you applied for a payday loan, and buried in the fine print is authorization to auto-charge your account every month with 3rd-party, perhaps difficult-to-cancel subscriptions. The methods used to get you to "agree" to the fine print is endless and they come up with new schemes every day.
By law, all 3rd-party phone billers have to include phone numbers with their charges. If you don't see a number on your bill, call your phone company, tell them you need the biller's number and they should be able to retrieve the number for you from their records. To stop the billing, call the biller to kill the subscription and get your money back and if that fails, tell your card issuer or bank that fraud has occurred and have them refund the money and replace the account - this is important, the account must be replaced because criminals have it and they can charge again or sell account info to other criminals.
