I* got a call today about malware and got a song and dance and some kind of demonstration of over allegedly 1700 problem errors and warnings on my computer.  I checked the telephone numbers he gave me and one was in Manitoba Canada and the other was in Suffolk County New York, not Seattle Washington where he said he was calling from.

I  refused to do business with him in any case as it sounded fishy.

Hello there folks.

FIRST OF ALL!!! DON'T GIVE THEM ANYTHING!!!!!!! HUNG UP THE PHONE. TELL EVERYBODY YOU KNOW, AND DON'T KNOW, ABOUT YOUR CALL.

I continued a little longer. I said I did not have the computer on. Oh, do I have to have internet access. Okej I am plugging in the cable now.

I kept it going for a while and then I said I do not have a Windows icon in the lower left corner of the keyboard.  That he was so eager to find
I think this is an iBook from Apple I said. Doesn't it work like you have planned it?
I asked!
There was silence at the other end of the phone.

Can not you help me now? I asked.

He hung up!!!!

While I was out running errands my mother called and said she received a call from "PC Tech Support" regarding our computer and that we needed to "remove wires or the computer would crash."  My mother could barely understand what the woman was saying, but did manage to get the phone number.  My mother then informed the caller that she would need to call me and ask me what to do (it's my computer).  The caller then said she had to go and call other people to "warn them" about their computers.  I knew this was a scam immediately - BRAND NEW COMPUTER and the only things plugged in are speakers, mouse, printer and router.

YES- SCAM! Anyone who cannot type full sentences in English should be questioned in regards to this particular number. I got the same line from "Roger Thompson". He got me to open my system and see the errors, but none of them said virus or anything other than my own computer issues which I knew I had. I called the phone number and after navigating through the automated voice, someone said "hello" I hung up.

Windows Service Center Scam

At approximately 11:05 CST today, i.e. Thursday, October 13, 2011, I received a call from an ?UNKNOWN? number on my cell phone from a guy who said his name was ?Peter? from the ?Windows Service Center?.  He had a very thick Indian (South Asian) accent.  He said that they have been receiving a lot of error reports indicating that my computer has been downloading malicious viruses for several weeks and that my computer was now infected.  ?Peter? said he was calling to help fix the problem.
He instructed me to go to ?Start? and ?Run?.  I told him there is no run.  He then instructed me to type in ?Event Viewer? in the Start box.  He then instructed me to click on ?application? and asked if I could see all of the red colored error messages and the yellow warning messages.  He said that Windows Service Center had been sending me the warning messages for weeks but that I had not responded to them.  I told ?Peter? that I had not received any warning messages from anybody, and he insisted that I had but that I just had not seen them.
Sensing a scam in progress, I asked ?Peter? for his phone number in case I got disconnected, for I told him that his number he was calling from was listed as ?UNKNOWN?.  ?Peter? said his phone number was 631-456-4455.
He then instructed me to go to the following website,  ammyy.com, in order so he could fix the problem.   When I went to the site, I saw that it is a program that grants remote access to your computer.  He asked me to grant him access.  I told ?Peter? that I was not going to grant him access to my computer, as I did not know who he was and that I needed some way to verify who he was.  I asked him where he was located, and he said ?We are in Delaware.?  ?Peter? then aggressively badgered me for at least a minute to grant him access to my computer so he could fix the problem.  ?Yes, we are completely legitimate,? he said.  You can verify us.  He then said if he was not legitimate, then how could he know my name, address, phone number, and ip address, all of which he then stated correctly.  I told ?Peter? that I needed more verification than that, and he then gave me his ?ID Number? of ?2605635?, as if this meant anything.  I then confirmed with him that he was with ?Windows Service Center?.  I asked him if he was working for Microsoft, and he said they were independent of Microsoft.
While he was talking I searched Google for ?Windows Service Center scams? and found previous complaints about this scam.  I told ?Peter? that the internet search I had just completed indicated that he was part of a scam, to which he objected.  I then read to him that this was a scam by people trying to access people?s computers and take their information and money.  I told him that I was going to report him to the relevant authorities, and at that point ?Peter? hung up.

Here is a good YouTube notice about this scam:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cueN1-2lANA

This is a total scam. Claimed we were downloading programs without proper licenses- thing is, this is my mother's computer and she has no idea even how to download and install programs. I asked for his phone number and when he put more pressure on I told him I figured this was a scam and was going to do some investigating first. He said his name was John calling from Service Tech BC.

They called my house, claiming all whatever one else has said. They seemed fishy to my dad, and even me but, sadly began to make us really believe they were legit. They kept consistently pursuing us, calling us, telling us that they had to fix our computer. That it was going to crash, if they didn't fix it. They gave us information, had us to speak to other people, but they are  A SCAM!!! Sadly we, bought this supposed Anti-Virus software which, was suppose to help, but actually up until today made it worse!! I recognized this, after another strange phone call, and called up DELL itself, had to be on the computer for 6 HRS FIXING IT WITH THEM! Whatever you do, don't believe them. They even sent us emails which I found even stranger because it, is a bunch of actual sites, names, numbers! It amazing! But, themselves are FAKE!!!!

These people who sounded like they were from India called and said they were from windows and my pc was infected with a virus. They connected to my computer about midway through this I realized it was a scam and I shut my pc down. Luckily so far nothing has happened to my pc. Maybe I shut it down before they were able to infect my computer or download my files.  Anyway I called windows and they said this was a scam. Can you find out who this number belongs to?

contact Windows IMMEDIATELY. Those people will now attempt to down-load a virus into your computer that WILL damage it. Then they will try to sell you the cure. Yhey can down-load this virus whether you are on the internet or not. The only way to prevent this is physically disconnect from the internet. Some of them have programs that will re-boot your internet if you have wi-fi.
Good luck tell ALL your friends.

I work as a computer tech. One of my customers got a call from these scumbags yesterday saying they work for Microsoft, his computer is infected, and would he like to pay them to fix it? He paid over $100 for them to connect remotely to his machine and install Microsoft Security Essentials - which is FREE software and available via Windows Update.

Obviously a scam. I'm waiting for him to bring his machine in so I can ensure it's clean... over half of my work is virus and malicious software removal. I wouldn't be surprised in the least to learn his machine has been compromised by them.

Got many unknown calls.. finally today spoke with "Gary Watson" told him i was 600 miles away from my pc.. and he's like can you go to your computer and take a look. UM NO! so I got this number: 631-456-4455 and told him i'd call him back. less than 4 hrs later guess who called again, Gary, so I asked for a Supervisor, wanted to go on the Do Not Call list. sure she says, do you want international or local list. me: UM BOTH!.. her: okay what plastic would you like to use, it's $120. me: WTF!!! she argued with, told me that I needed to authorize the paper work and that I'd need to go to my computer and give her access, (see above.. 600miles away) me: really you can see my computer, okay tell me about my puter.. her: well I see it's a windows 7, right? me: Im not telling you. we argued more so i hung up, on her.

A 'Jack Miller" with a heavy East Indian accent just told me he was calling from Delaware to tell me the same as all the rest.  I said I would call him back and my caller ID gave me the 631-456-4455 number but he gave me 603-733-1419.  Who does one report this to?

i got a woman, foreign accent, and i could hardly understand her, I thought she was saying something like my cptr was infected and she wanted to fix the problem---yeah right!  I told her  I have to go and I'd call her back, and asked what her number was, and she gave me the same number as all you folks got 631-456-4455   .I found out it's a world wide scam and they are operating out of Long Island, NY, at least mine was.  Everyone should report this number to authorities so hopefully they can stop these crooks asap. If they had remote control of your PC, there's no telling what they've downloaded. Marketing deals exist in the world of malware. 3rd-party criminals can pay these scammers to download their 3rd-party malware on your PC when they had remote control of it in addition to the scammers' own scareware. Remote control of victims' PCs is not to be wasted! Several malware may have been installed on your PC. Antivirus/antispyware scanners may not find them all. Login-stealing trojans can sit silently on your PC and they have low detection rates. The safest way to kill all malware is to reformat your drive and reinstall your operating system if you have clean backups for your data. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. Beware installed malware can call home and download more nasties while you're connected to the net. If you choose to scan instead of reformat, I suggest using System Restore to reset your PC to a state previous to the remote access before downloading scan software. If they have your card info, you'll have to demand your issuer claw money back from these b*****ds and also get the card replaced because scammers have it and can charge again. Report the crime to the Internet Crime Complaint Center http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx  Best of luck.

These people aer definately scammers! i got the same call from the number that came out on my phone as 305 but when i asked for ther number they gave me the number 631-456-4455  they claimed I had viruses on my computer and that my computer was about to crash. They kept saying my computer was running slow and that was a lie because my computer has ran the same fast way the whole time since the two years that I had bought it. Then when I asked the second guy for his name he told me his name was Ron I asked him Ron, what, what is your last name? he kept changing the subject so I asked him loudly one more time and he said ummm, my last name? oh ya my last name is Ron, Start. Come on now..? and then I asked for the guys name that I had first talked to and he said his name was Paul Johnson , they were from Windows Service Technicians. DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM THEY ARE SCAMMERS!

I just got a call today!!! Of course I could not understand him(Indian accent) but when I asked him several questions about where he was from and which make and model computer he was talking about, he could not answer. I asked for the phone number so that I could call him back and when I did, it was just a recording asking you to leave a message. DO NOT give any of your information to these people!!

Today I revived a call from that phone number. I Asked them to verify which computer my model and make had the error, they couldn't give me an answer then I immediately asked for a supervisor and the US business number of there business and asked for a Company Name, I ran the name on Google and Google marked the site as compromised. I then let them do there pitch, so that I could find out how they intended to scam me, and now I plan to pass the information onto my Member of Parliament and to the Police.

I did not provide any information about my computer or me.
