Thanks. There's some kind of reunion of sorts in LA at a stony prof's speech, my area code must have lit up on their search program. I was there 40 years ago so not anyone I know. Yeh I google earthed there but it did not look the same .

Recently received 2 calls on my cell phone from this number. I am on nationwide Do Not Call List also.

They called my cell phone and didn't leave a message. I'm a Stony Brook alumni. How on Earth did they get my cell number ???!!!

Yes, please treat the callers with respect as they are students only trying to finance their own education.  The best thing to do is to pick up the phone and ask to be removed from the list.  You will not receive the calls anymore.

I just need to let everyone know that the school is exempt from the Do Not Call List as a non-profit.  If you tell them nicely not to call you again and to remove your name from the calling lists that should do it.

Don't be mean to the people on the lines, they're actually students working for pretty much minimum wage to finance their education.

Robo-dialing machines. That's how they get everyone's cell phone numbers. It is not clear if whether with the increase in cell phone attacks, attacks on landlines have diminished.

Your Caller ID is your best defense. If you see a name or number (or no name or number) that makes no sense, don't pick up the call! If you should pick up a call, and a voice tells you to press a particular number or button, press nothing. HANG UP! If you press that number or button, you put yourself on the "chump list".

Report bogus calls to the Federal DNC registry and the FCC.gov DNC complaint site. You may think this does no good. Read the stories in the forum here about how some boiler room operations were brought down in India. Each report gives the feds more information with which to track down attackers. Still, it is going to be a very hard fight against these people.

I had it with these phones.  Nobody went to school there.  How do they get your cell phone no.?   I am sick of them!

I've gotten probly ten calls from this #. My dad went to school there, had the same name as me, that might be why. But now I live in FL and defnetly nvr gave them my CELL #. There is no such thing as a do not call list. They probly sell names on the do not call list to telemarketers

Yes, I went to school there, but I paid them to go.  

When I feel like giving back, I'd opt to do it on my own, without the 80's style of telemarketing.

They called my cell on a Friday night at 7:30pm, are you kidding me?!?!?! I assume based on others comments it was stony brook since I went there too.  They got my cell in an underhanded way since I never gave it to them, it's unlisted, it's on federal Do not call list and I haven't communicated with sbu in more than 25yrs!  I'm thinking either via LinkedIn or my resume someone sold my info.  Will call the university about this!

Same here, I never gave them my cell number, I don't know how they got it and they call regularly, I just don't pick up.

I would love to know how they got my number since I never gave them my cell number. Plus, I am on the Do Not Call Registry, yet they called any way.
