People these calls are from bottom feeders.  The law firm does not exist, search google for the name, I guarantee you you will not find it.  They are just hoping for 1 unsuspecting fool to be so terrified by their calls and threats of jail time and a federal court case and whatever crap they can devise.  They are no more real than the debt they are supposedly calling you about.  Word to the wise, you cannot be arrested for debt, you cannot have your wages garnished if you have not been filed with lawsuit papers (summons & complaint by a process server, etc.) and debt is a civil matter not a federal one.  Further more threats of a lawsuit in California or another county or any other state or county other than the one you reside is false too.  You can only be sued in the county/state in which you live.  Please people educate yourself on the FDCPA and google the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and obtain your credit reports.  If you arm yourself with knowledge these scumbags will have less targets at their fingertips.

These people are not calling from any lawyers office and there is no such law firm by the name of Marshall Feldman in New York State or any state for that matter.  Beware of these people and do not give them any information whatsoever.  They are scam artists looking for a sucker to be stupid enough to give them your personal information no matter how compelling the call may seem.  They cannot arrest you, put you in jail, garish your wages etc.  They need to commence a lawsuit against you which entails you being served (by process server) with the summons and complaint, the judgment etc. before a wage garn can commence and they cannot throw you in jail for debt otherwise the prisons would be even more overcrowded.  Educate yourself.  Google the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collections Practices Act) and read it and educate yourself on your rights.  It is the best thing you can do....

I just received 4 calls in a row and twice yesterday (I blocked the number yesterday) the message said the same things as listed above by some guy who speaks less than 5 words of English.  Only thing isthat they don't realize is that I work for attorneys.  Thankfully, they haven't called me at work just my cell phone at this point.  I have reviewed my credit reports and there is nothing on them so for now I will sit back and wait to see how this unfolds.  Never give anyone your personal information, do not confirm or deny anything they say to you on the phone.  Under the FDCPA you are entitled to documentation of the "debt" they claim you owe them.  Review the FDCPA and record all calls you receive from them where there is a conversation.  Do not back down from them as they are the ones committing fraud and violating your rights under the FDCPA.

I received this same call 2 weeks ago from a different number 603-767-5114.  They likely buy their outbound phone numbers on a rotating basis, as they are shut down when they get a new number.  Also they probably get your information from (maybe) legitimate online payday, credit, or other counseling agencies that give (or shill out) applicant's information, as if they were providing some service.  Of course that is only one way they can get your info, even if it was the result of identity theft.

Its a Skype or Magic Jack number.  They are NOT in the US.  They are in a foreign country trying to scam you into settling.  Ask for an attorney registration number, name.  Call the attorney back from looking them up online if you really feel you owe money.  But its a scam.  Nothing the US authorities can do about it.  The scammer doesnt care, nor do the cops.  Its only dumb people who send money to anyone like this.

They told me that paperwork will be filed in a San Diego courtroom and I have to fly to CA.  If I don't I will be arrested and have to pay some odd $8,000.  I called my local FBI office and reported it.  The agent was very nice and offered some great help!  When they ask for my lawyers number they will get the local FBI office.

Prank Call
I am sick and tired of there scum bags calling and leaving threatening messages.  I went thru this a couple of years ago and thought it had stopped.  It has started yet again and I am SO tired of it.  I called them back today and the foreign gentlemen were both very rude and said just give my attorney's information.  I said I am my own attorney and they said that could not possibly be.  They are ridiculous.  Imagaine if they manage to get 10 callers a day to pay them.  They are making a boat load of money.  They call from 631-919-0003.

This guy is a scam and a fraud! He yelled at me and then hung up the phone. He leaves messages on my voice mail for other people and different names too. He changes his name but uses the same lines with everyone. He speaks with an accent and is very very crude. DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION TO THIS CON ARTIST! He calls from different numbers as well. I recommend you contacting a police detective if he calls you. My wife has met with a local detective here in our State and we report any calls to him, so there is at least documentation to eventually get this guy behind bars!

I received a call from this same person today.  I have no idea who he is or what he's talking about.  He stated that there was a lawsuit against me, and my associate and that there is a state investigation against me also.  First of all I don't have an associate, and second of all if it was a state investigation I would think the call would be coming from the state I live in.  I think this same person tried this once before about a year or so ago I received a similar phone call, except regarding a payday loan.  I did a lot of research on whether I owed any money or not, and it turned out that I didn't.  He went as far as to say that he would be sending paperwork to my place of work and they would garnish my wages.  I told him to go ahead and do that, since I wasn't going to send any money.  I never heard anything again until today.  This is a fraud, do not give any money!!!

I received a call from this number stating that I was a witness to a lawsuit against my friend for financial fraud. Somehow he got my number in connection to her and was threatening me as well. Of course when you try and call back it rings and rings with no voicemail then disconnects. The man said his name is Rae Jones and he could barely speak English. The law firm he said he was calling from didn't exist in my research. This is a scam!

I received a phone call from "Michael Brown" from "Center Moric - Attorney at Law - NY".  Threatening  me with a Federal case pending in my name.  When I returned the call to 631-909-0003, I asked for "Michael Brown" and when this person came on line - he was foriegn.  This person was not speaking English to well.  He proceeded to tell me that he had documentation  in front of him proving this was accurate.  I told him to send the information to me and that I would have my attorney to look at it.  He said for me to have my attorney to call him.  I told him to send me the documentation.  He refused.  I told him not to call me threatening me.  He said he wasnt threatening me, that I was threatening him.  I told him not to call my house anymore and that I was reproting this.  He slammed the phone down.  I called my Local Law Enforcement.  I will also report this to the Assistant NC State Attorney General (Which is my best friends UNCLE).  I am tired of people trying to scam us "Hard Working" people in OUR country.  I will NOT GIVE UP on this.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.

If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller?s instructions. Rather, you should:

Notify your banking institutions.
Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.
Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:

Never give your Social Security number?or personal information of any kind?over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements

I'am with you too, I would never do anything like this online. If I really needed money I would ask for a loan at my local bank or open a new credit card account but never ever a loan from strangers online. I don't need to worry, but if I keep hearing from this call I will talk to any officer or law offices to see who is this person doing this prank calls.

I just receive a call from this person too. I could barely understand his english and it says it comes from new york law offices, but when i saw the miss call it was not coming from new york it came from outside the united states. Now the question is, If it is from the law offices of new york, Why is the number coming from outside the united states starting with the number 01163? second, I have never in my life taken a loan from nobody. I don't need to worry about nothing

I just received a call from this number. He said he was with a law firm in New York. The caller ID came up with a weird series of digits, not a traditional xxx-xxx-xxxx. His message was hard to understand but he said one of my friends (and gave a name of someone that I actually know) committed fraud and I was listed as a reference. This call was a bit scarey because of him actually saying the name of someone I know. He said I should not disregard the call because I will get in serious legal trouble. I tried to call back the # he left on the message but it just rang and then disconnected. Creepy.
