These people have been calling saying my husband owes all kinds of money for some "student loan" that he has never received. They said if he didn't meet with them in person and pay they were taking this to court.  I'm thankful to have seen these posts because I had no idea. I hope they don't call anymore!

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.

If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller?s instructions. Rather, you should:

Notify your banking institutions.
Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.
Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:

Never give your Social Security number?or personal information of any kind?over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements

I just received a call too from 632-982-3006, saying that I was a suspect in a legal case being charged against me.  The lady was going to transfer me to her officer, but then it sounded like they passed the phone over.  They called my company cell phone and so when i asked for a number to call back because i had bad reception, they repeated this number with an ext. of 801 and told me to call back in 10 minutes. I hung up on them and called right back and now they won't freaking answer!  Its a huge SCAM Please don't fall for their "indian" accents and fake scare tactics! These calls started coming in after I did an online payday advance. It was paid right back and I've never done one since.  Once these websites have your information, you're screwed!!!  Don't ever get an online payday advance from anyone!  All your personal information, SSN, DOB, where you work, how much you make, its all out there on the web from scumbags like these people trying to take your money!  They're down right liars all of them and I'm so sick of them calling me all the time!  I had another indian accent guy just yesterday call in and my caller id showed as a "911" call!  How the hell can they do this!!!!

Receiving harrassing calls at my work and personal cell number from (631) 982-3006 from a female then transferred to a male who said he was an attorney and that I owed for a loan I had not paid for and threaten a lawsuit against me. Both had strong accents and it was hard to understand them and when I questioned from who, they would never giver a company name.   Very rude and abrupt.  I suspect my identity has been picked up from the website.

My friend received a call from this number telling her that she had a lawsuit filed against her funny thing about this is  I work for a law firm that file suits and we serve people everyday for credit cards. We sent a letter of representation first with the company you owe a debt to. I told her a law suit can only be filed in the county you live in and you are served a summons first we live in Florida and this number is from New York.

I received two calls on my cell phone back to back (5:27 pm & 5;28 pm) both of which I denied.  The person called a third time (5:28 pm) and I let the call go to voicemail.  A woman left a message with an accent so strong, it sounded as if she may have had a speech disorder or even a mental disorder.  The message said something about the Mckenzie law firm.  I have dealt with bozos like this in the past.  I called back.  I listened the the whole scam about me owing money and then they proceeded to ask for my or my attorney's information.  I told them I would not being giving them the information they asked for but I would tell them this, I have filled a complaint against them and not to call my number even again!  When you receive calls like this, contact your local FCC and provide them with as much info as possible.  DO NOT give any info to these jerks!!!  It is a scam!

Do not respond to these idiots.  I spoke with them on several occassions.  At first they had me in a fluster and advised that I had a lawsuit filed against me and that I needed to have my attorney contact them.  I asked where they were calling from, they advised McKenzie Law Firm.  I asked what city and state, they advised New York City, New York.  I advised them that the area code shows northern New York and they advised this is where New York City was located.  I then inquired for the attorney's bar number, the individual asked me if I was asking where a bar was.  I then inquired how they got my information, they advised me that I was a criminal and they only go after criminals.  I then inquired for his name, he said Ron Pearlman, of which I said, "do you like Hellboy?"  He said yes.  Fallacy after fallacy, do not give these guys the time of day, they are a scam.

He called me 6 times today, He said I owed more than one PayDay loan and that I needed to have my attorney contact him.  He also said maybe it was identy theft, but my social security number and email were on the application.  He also asked if I checked my email.  He said he was an attorney named John Grogen (very thick Indian Accent).  He also told me that the autorities were going to come arrest me today.

I asked him to send me att he information about the loans and what I signed and he said he could not do that because it was the internet....

I got a call this morning from a man named Mike Smith, he had a strong Indian Accent. He left a message on my voicemail saying that I owed money on a loan (which I never received) and that me or my lawyer needed to contact him immediately or I would suffer the consequences. I couldn't understand what company he said he was from.
