It also dawns on me (I'm slow tonight!) that writing to poor Clara at the DA's office is probably more of a nuisance than a help, as this internet scammer is most likely nowhere near NYC. Trip Advisor seems to think he's in South America

We also paid $515 to "Lucas Bailey" and spoke to him on the phone in March about a rental this October. Luckily we have seen this before we arrived in NYC!! A Google search on "Lucas Bailey" back in March yielded nothing suspicious, but lack of communication prompted me to look again.

I have written to Clara Henderson of the DA's office enclosing emails from "Lucas Bailey" and will eventually take it up with PayPal too.

Lucas Bailey scammed at least 50 and probably over 100 people out of $500 (or more) deposits on New York vacation rentals listed on craigslist. If you are one of them please contact Clara Henderson in the New York District Attorney's office who is handling the case: hendersonc@dany.nyc.gov
also file a complaint with the IC3: http://www.ic3.gov / and the FTC: www.ftc.gov

Apr. 21, 2008 I paid $515 to to Centrifugal Design as a reservation fee for an apartment in east village NYC. Upon arrival (may 17) there were no person meeting us and no respons on both email nor phone. Before our arrival to NYC I had frequent contact (both mail and phone) with the person that called himself "Lucas Bailey". 3 days before we departed from Norway to NYC the phone (his phone# was/is: 1-646-2627755 and email gave no response. We hoped up until the last moment that there was a misunderstanding and that Lucas Bailey would show up at the apt according to our appointment. We arrived with a child of age 2 and nowhere to live in the city!! We are of course quite put off by this crime and would like PayPal to further investigate this particular scam/peron. During our time in NYC I did send in a formal complaint to Pay Pal but did not receive a response from you. If you need any further information from me I gladly cooperate to get to the root of this case. All mail to me can go to ktorgard@hotmail.com. Kind regards, Kjell-Olav Torgard
