I believe this call originates if you happened to have sent a resume for a "job" (though actually a scam listing) online via craigslist or other similar website- I have been getting calls and emails such as this since the one time only I was tricked into sending a resume. This number claims to be an employment service responding to an application for employment. Funny thing is, the area code is in New York- I'm in Arkansas!

In work for this company as a rep that calls you. our company gets paid from the employers and an education advising company. the employers pay us to verify your contact information and prequalify you. once we are done verifying your info, if you seem interested we ask if you're considering furthing your education. If you are-we give you a number to call and if you call the number we get paid from the education advising company. If your not interested there is no effect on the job application. I dont understand why everyone is calling this a scam when we are not scamming anything-we have your information, we dont charge for any part of the process, and these are jobs that YOU applied for. and to get off the list just talk to a rep and say you're not interested. ALSO for more info check out Career-network.com or employmentselect.com. Thank you for reading and good luck with the job search!

For all those that care, I actually work for Career Network... and there is nothing about our company that is a scam. We own and operate several job boards across the country and only post legitimate jobs posted by employers that have PAID to place there ad with us. Our verification process is a service provided for our employers to reduce the time their recruiters must spend waiding through the pool of applicants that apply for these positions. As most of you can understand there are thousands of people looking for work and right now and employers are being very picky. Additionaly we offer a FREE service to applicants that are interested in persuing higher education, this is NOT a requiremnet to be considered for a job posted through our website, and is ONLY offered to those applicants that are genuinely interested in going back to school. It is true that not everyone receives a call from an employer after the verification process, but that is the state of things right now. The job market is competitive... period. Unfortunately we can only do so much. Also, for the record if you recieve a call from our company no one will ever ask you for any of your personal information (SSN,Bank Account, Etc..) and if they do then they are not affiliated with our company and please report them to any law enforcement agency you wish. Please understand that we are all in hard times right now and we are truly a company that wishes to help, we work uniquely for both the employers by pre-screening applicants, and for the applicant by offering them the opportunity to recieve FREE information about persuing a better career. If you really want to point fingers then I would suggest posting a resume on Careerbuilder.com or Monster.com and see how many times they try to ask you THE APPLICANT for money for everything from "preferred applicant status" to "resume critiquing" services. Our services are FREE to applicants and never FORCED upon anyone, and NEVER will anyone's information be sold nor will it be distributed without their permission. I hope that can clear up some of the animosity here and end the confusion of our mission. To connect employers with qualified applicants and vice versa. Thank you and good luck in your job hunt!!

Yeah I just got a call from this number too. The automated message said a representative would be with me shortly to verify information and that I should be at a computer with internet access. I can only imagine why. When the woman got on the phone she sounded totally unprofessional and the background sounded like she was calling from the floor of the stock market. Luckily all I verified was my name and number before got suspicious and told her I would call them back. She gave me the 646-360-1660 number, but when I call it, it goes right into a busy signal. I did apply for a handful of jobs on Craigslist. I'm sure thats where it comes from. Anyone know if these people are being investigated?

I see nothing's been posted here for awhile. So here I am.
Just received a call from these people on my cell, which really ticked me off cuz I only get so many minutes. Anyway, it was the same as everyone described. I held on through all their recordings only because I was interested in knowing which position I had applied for.  LOL  And... she couldn't tell me the name of the company. Or the position. She knew absolutely nothing. I told her it didn't make sense because I don't even do the type work she mentioned and I asked to be taken off the list. Kept me tied up 5 minutes and totally wasted my time. But I gave her absolutely NO information, except to confirm cell number, which they already had anyway. Stay vigilant everyone!!!

I got a call from that number this morning. I didnt pick up seeing that it was a weird area code. I knew if it were a real company they would have a 1-800 number or at least the call would be coming from an area code in the area. The fact the the voicemail sounded automated was fishy also. Its a shame that people are trying to take advantage of others during these rough times. People are looking for real jobs and don't have time to play games. I just wonder does that mean I'm going to keep getting calls from these fools.

I too have had this problem, the number has called me a vast number of times. To get off the list I have this number:1-888-382-1222 this number should keep telemarketers and others at bay for about a year or so. I got the number from a text message from an old friend a long time ago and it works, I just needed to renew the number. For a once a year number, I admit I did forget to call. Hope this helps anyone out there. Or you can just wait on the line for somebody gets transfered to you and then tell them you want off the calling list. See-ya.

I called them back and got a recording, but eventually someone answered.  I asked to be removed from their list as I felt it was as scam.  The guy said it wasn't scam and it was about a job I applied for, but whatever it seems weird to me and I don't want them calling all the time. So just call the number back and tell them to remove your name.

This is ridiculous.  They just called me back for a job that i applied for 3 weeks ago.  I had to sit there through an automated machine saying "verification" or "verify your information" every 2 seconds, like it was trying to brainwash me into thinking that this was the right thing to do.  I told them i would call them back but apparently i am not anymore.  What scares me most is that I sent out a resume with my name and if they're that determined, I really hope nothing happens to the identities of the people that fell for this.

I received a call today saying they worked as an employment agent. They started to ask to many personal questions so I just hung up. I also applied for an online ad.This is where they must have gotten the information. This sure looks like a scam to me. Please be careful not to give them any information.
