This was my first call from this number. I answered and they said nothing. After reading all these posts I know it's probably a scam or something. Be careful everyone!

I just received a call from (646) 360-1661. The lady said that she was from Career Network and they were conducting verfication for an employer that I had applied to online. She only need 45 mins of my time to complete the verification process. When I asked who the employer was she told me that she did not have that information!!!!!!!! Red flags went up!! I told her that I did not feel comfortable giving her ANY information...I went to the BBB (Better Business Bureau) site and the BBB gives this company a F, yes F rating. YOu can read some to the things BBB said has been complaints brought against this company. I would not suggest that anyone give these scan artist any information!!!!

I got a call from them on a Saturday morning. I didn't call them back, but instead checked this website first. I then checked the BBB like someone else suggested. They're not an accredited business so don't call them back! Plus, why would someone from New York City be calling when I applied for a job in Florida?!

Just got a call from this guy! Said same thing about me applying for a secretary position. He said they are a 3rd party company. I called him out and said when I applied for this job, 3 of my references were contacted. One of my references said it was a weird e-mail so I further investigated by searching the phony address that's left in their signature. Looks like that address doesn't really exist! It's strange because I didn't supply them with a SSN or any other information so I'm unsure how they will use this information.

Long story short...I called him out and told him I thought it was a scam. His response..."...well we're a third party company..." so I cut him off and said I wasn't interested. Scary!

I was contacted about employment verification, but I got the feeling that there was no real job opportunity, they were only trying to pressure me into enrolling in a college.  I did give my name and address when I filled out an online application for a job and I did verify this information on the phone.  I was told an appointment had been made for me with an education advisor and I said I was not interested.  I am concerned about my identity and furious that these phony job listings are not illegal.  People believe they are finding opportunities but are just being scammed.

I had filled out an online application for a job and then thought it was a scam but I wasn't sure. Now a month later they have called me and wanted to go over my application and send it in. They said they were from jobnetwork. I verified my info (basic info, phone number, address, email). I don't drive so I asked the location of the place. All she had to say was it was close by and the manager of the place would let me know if he called me back he would give me all the info. I thought it odd because before going thought with the verifying she asked if I had access to the internet where I was.
So I'm really annoyed because I have been looking for a job with little success and I find one that I really like and it turns out to be a scam and now they have my info and will probably send me junk mail or worse.

If the person calls back or "the manager" I'm just gonna pretend I'm someone else that I gave the phone to and tell them the real me found a job and moved out of state.

yeah I received a voicemail from this phone number. I never answer phone calls from area codes I don't recognize. But I'm smart enough to know that a real employer (at least one you want to work for) will ever call you using an automated voice machine and want you to call back and verify your information. Right off the bat you should know it's a scam or fraud. Never give out personal information over the phone or over the internet. We all should be smart enough these days to catch on immediately.

You obviously haven't been taken for money or time yet. Stay positive and write back in a year. We will see how nice you are when your are trying to get by and you get these calls that offer only false hope.

I am on the do not call list. The only people I invite to call me are the people I give my number to. Do you telemarketers ever really get someone to buy your services? Seriously. Don't invade my privacy.

Nice post was your supervisor pleased? Did you get a little something extra in the paycheck? Better seat in the boiler room? Comfy chair? Get to go home 5 min early? If this education scam is such a good deal WHY ARE YOU STILL TELEMARKETING hahaha.

Aware:

Someday?maybe soon or many years from now?YOU will wake up. And you will finally realize you traded your integrity and soul for a measly telemarketer?s wage. Only the most remorseless, callous slob would prey on unfortunate people striving to feed their families during such hard economic times?then slap them with insults and insensitive rebukes after they question your motives.

Continuing education was never the issue. Your company slinks in the shadows, gathers personal information from unsuspecting people and uses that information for an unwanted, unintended purpose. I feel sad that your delusional mind fails to comprehend the truth. Your company?s actions are despicable, unethical and illegal.

Ah, but yes! Someday you will wake up. You will be all alone and unable to hide behind your fictitious name and phony facade. And you will wish you could take back the immorality and the wickedness toward your fellow man.

But by then it will be too late?It always is.

Just got a call from this number. I thought...wow! Finally a job. I currently lost my second job due to pregnancy and have a day job that only offers part time hours and no benefits. I'm in desperate need to get a full time job, itleast after I deliver. And for some reason something told me to look this number up online first and this site was the first thing that poped up. I'm glad I seen this first before calling back. Now, I'm back to the loser I was before getting the v-mail on my cell. When will things ever get better?????

Thank you to everyone for posting your comments.  Luckily, I looked up the number BEFORE I called because I thought it sounded suspicious!  I've been in HR for 15 years and would never look for a job candidate in this manner...so don't return their call!!!

Thanks everyone for all your postings on this #!  I tried to do the reverse phone look up and wasn't finding any results....then I googled this # and found this page.
If this # belongs to Career Network, that makes sense.  I rec'd e-mails for "job openings" from them, under this e-mail:  careers@sophisticatedcareers.com.
Supposedly you can upload your info to the Career Network site (like career builder or monster)....however when applying for their "jobs" you have to fill out all your info all over again - why, when it's supposedly saved on their site??  It seems like they are just collecting your info but there are no real jobs offered.
Finally, in case any of you have come across supposed job offers in marketing, here's a very helpful link:

Good luck out there!

I had a missed call from them yesterday, so I answered when they called today. It was a recording saying to call back. When I called back it was more recordings then a girl came on the phone to verify my information. She said it was for a vetrinary receptionist position. I remember sending my resume to a craigslist post months ago for a vetrinary receptionist position. Since then, I have relocated so I asked her where the job is located and she said unfortunately she does not have that information but it is within a 25-mile radius of my location. The first thing that originally threw me off was the 646 area code, and then "Jessica's" poor grammar on the recording. I hope someone puts a stop to this and I hope it's not some type of identity fraud scam :(

Telemarketer
I received a call from this number now three times.  The first two said they got information that I was interested in furthering my education.  I JUST GRADUATED COLLEGE WITH A BS DEGREE FROM A REAL UNIVERSITY!!!  Grrrr the third was was to "verify information" but the lady said it would take 5 to 45 minutes!!!  Insane!  I told her I'd call her back and googled the phone number this time.  I'm glad I did, I'm not calling back.  I'm going to go back to careerbuilder and report the two jobs I applied for that asked if I was interested in furthering my education and reporting them.  By the way I'm in Springfield, MO ... they seem to be everywhere!!!

Telemarketer
I got the same call twice now, once on my birthday and once today.  I did apply online for a Dental Assistant position, and the email I received claimed I had to fill out a series of questions prior to being interviewed, in which I had to put my cell phone number.  I felt something was off, and just like you guys I guess it was...all just a lure to get your money sucked away to some unaccredited school. Silly me.
I wish you all the best to those having a rough go in the economy!
