I think any company calling for anything regarding a job application submitted online or other wise that doesnt leave a message is a scam of some sort.  Legit companies would leave thier name/contat info and why they are calling.

They called my house at 9am, my wife answered. No one said anything just hung up on her when she said hello. From what I see on here, something is not right.

I just got a call from them and called back.
I write down every single company i apply for, the date, time etc.
She claimed the company was confidential. I NEVER apply for companies who are confidential.
She knew i had applied for a security job but refused to tell me the company.
This really is stupid.
They are preying on unemployed people.
If they call me again i will freak out.
What i want to know is, WHO is selling our info? What Job sites are they getting it from?
I used Craigslist and Michigan Talent bank, thats it! So who sold it?

The number called my cell phone at 11:39am, Like everyone else if I don't know a number I won't answer.  I blocked my home number when I called back after their friday business hours and was directed to an automated service at the company saying wait for a rep to answer. Now that I know this my not be legit I will not return the call on Monday.

They called me this morning, and I did not answer. I called them back and I waited about 15 seconds to talk to a real person. They told me if was for a job I applied online on April 1st, So I checked my calendar to see if it matched. and it did. So they have to be connected some how due to knowing that. I think it may be a pre-screening thing for online applicants, to make sure you are "Real" and not made up. that way the company is not trying to hire someone with a false Identity.
Hope I helped!

4-20-09 - Received a call and did not answer. Looked up the number and these comments first before returning. I figure if it's legitimate and worth a callback the caller will leave a message.  After reading all these comments, I'll leave it at that.

Shortly after receiving that call from (646) 520-696 on April 6, 2009 at 9:05 AM, I received another call from (805) 456-1721 on that same day at 3:14 PM.  According to my caller ID, the location for this 805 number is in Santa Barbara, CA.  They wanted to know if I wanted to continue or further my education or school.  I told them that I ran out of money, and the conversation ended in one minute and ten seconds.

I received a phone call from (646) 520-696 on April 6, 2009 at 9:05 AM.  According to my caller ID, the location is in New York City, NY.  I called back at 1:36 PM and a woman picked up on the other line.  She said that this was in regards to a forklift job that I had applied for online at craigslist.org for $12.50 an hour.  She said that the job was located in Youngsville, NC (about 10 minutes from Wake Forest, NC).  She said that the phone interview could take up to 45 minutes.  I agreed to it.  She asked me to verify my name, address, and phone number.  She then asked me, "Where do you see yourself 2 years from now?"  I told her, "Working as a forklift operator in a warehouse."  She asked me, "What is your highest level of education?"  I told her, "Bachelors."  She asked me, "In what?"  I told her, "Christian Education."  She asked me, "Are you going to school?"  I told her, "No."  She asked me, "Do you plan on furthering your education?"  I told her that I ran out of money.  She asked me, "What are you doing with your degree right now?"  I told her, "This degree qualifies me to be an associate pastor in a church, but I have been told by various Christian organizations that they are seeking someone with a masters degree or higher, or that I lack the experience (which I doubt)."  She said, "Well, at least you are certified to operate a forklift.  I will just forward your resume to the hiring manager, and if he likes you, he will call you."  I could tell that she was just brushing me off; the phone call did not even last 5 minutes.  I believe that this is a scam because if there was a legitimate company in Youngsville, NC (like Stock Building Supply) searching for a forklift operator, and if the highest level of education that an applicant had was a high school diploma and they were certified to drive a forklift, they could and would be hired.  (Stock Building Supply has even hired Mexican workers who did not have a high school diploma from what I heard.)  I have been certified to operate a forklift since the late Spring of 2008 and have experience operating diesel forklifts, electric forklifts, and propane forklifts.  The former two companies that I worked for were Stock Building Supply (in Youngsville, NC) and the Raleigh Lions Clinic for the Blind (in Raleigh, NC).  Stock Building Supply downsized and laid off many of its own employees because the demand for house-building materials went down.  The Raleigh Lions Clinic for the Blind (RLCB) merged with two other companies: Blind Industries & Services of Maryland (BISM) and Patriot Services.  RLCB began to lay off many of their own RLCB workers little by little--the mechanic supervisor, the warehouse manager, the plant manager, front office people, forklift operators, and automated assembly operators.  The only warehouse work that I have found since then were temporary positions--such as when a supervisor had to travel to another city & state for business matters, and I took care of the warehouse, shipping, and receiving while he was gone.

Prescreening for a job...
I was told the call would last from 5 to 45 minutes and after I verified all my info the line was disconnected (about 3 minutes).  I think that was them telling me thanks we got what we need bye sucker.  I called them back and said I got disconnected and they told me oh thats ok you are already "registered" so they will contact you from here.  I Say Scam.  When the education crap starts coming in the mail I will come back on here and verify.

Same as everyone else.  They claim the company that is interested in you wants to stay confidential.  This is definitely connected to Career Network/Career Harmony and all of the other shell companies they go by.  Look them up on the web and it reveals that it is a total scam and phishing operation.  Everyone BEWARE.  They are preying on ones who are looking for jobs during these tough times.

I had the same situation as the above people. When I googled Career Network, one of the first things that popped up was "scam". Whether it's online degree pitches or more serious, I'm not sure, but one comment was to be wary of the need for your cell phone number. I IMMEDIATELY called my cell phone provider and had an additional password created for the account so nothing can be done without my knowledge.

I feel like such a fool, just applying for a stupid job, and now ID theft is one more worry.

I applied for a position on craig'slist around a year ago. I was extremely qualified but it seemed too good to be true. A month or so later, the co. sent an email to all of my references asking them to rate me (I got top rates on all and they called to tell me so). Next, (around 4 months later), I recieved a call from these guys. They verified my information and the fact that I'm NOT interested in more college right now. The rep said that I'd receive a call directly from the confidential company to set up an interview (at this point I tried to find out who this mystery company was and at least what state it was in, but no, I had to wait for some confidential people to call and ask me more personal questions). That was around 7 months ago...no call yet. Then, last week, I received an email from a recruiter from this co. "C. Benn" about a similar job. It said he had read my resume and thought I was really qualified but I needed to reapply. So I did and it was the same steps online about college info. The next day I received another email from the guy that was basically the same email but with a different pay rate and it said I had to reapply AGAIN (for another job, of course)! I don't understand why I have to keep reapplying when they all already have my information. Now, this morning this number called me and didn't leave a message. I think they are allowed to harass you (as are their affiliates) so long as you put it on an application of some type and that is regardless of being on the do-not-call registry. In fact, I'm beginning to think that there is a time limit on the permission and that's why they had me do another application, to allow them more time to harass me. I'm pretty sure it's a scam and that scares me.

Just a response about the "Do Not Call List".  If you filled out an online application for a job and/or they use a third-party for verification unfortunately it doesn't violate the "Do Not Call" restriction.  If you continue to receive calls though after you've requested your number to be removed they MUST comply.

This phone call is extremely weird/strange. If it really was regarding a job position why wouldn't they leave a message. I was on hold for good 5 minutes. The automated voice machine system didn't even sound professional to me. I think its a scam. Just be careful guys.  There are weirdos out there in the world.

To understand our target market, our professionals had to take a different approach to the standard demographic study completed by most businesses. Identifying our job-seeking market could prove to be as vague as identifying the general population in terms of age, gender, income level, occupation, education and family circumstances. Three Stars took a different approach by instead identifying our market as people unhappy in their current employment situation for many reasons, such as unemployment, income level, insufficient recognition, office politics, inadequate opportunities for career advancement, boredom, poor relations with management and co-workers, or an undesirable commute. These are the people that our advertisers wish to reach.

This is a scam. Last week I got a call on my voice mail, which I did not return. The message said they wanted to verify a job application, but I haven't applied for ANY job, online or anyplace else, nor have I been in any of the job boards or job Web sites. I have no idea how they got my number.

They just tried to call again, but I didn't answer. I don't know what they're up to, but it isn't legitimate.

I think they're trying to take advantage of the fact that many people are out of work and applying, so they think the call might be on the level.

I have received two calls from this phone number. Each time I did not answer. When I called back I received a recorded message about employment verification and a representative would be with me shortly. Legitimate companies usually leave a message.

I got a call from this number as well.  I think it is a scam.  I am sure the last couple of comments are from the company so people think it is real. No real company would work this way in this day and age of scams!  You never give your info out over the phone or internet.

Received a call from 646-520-0696 re: a job app I'd recently submitted online. I was advised that it could take up to 45 minutes to complete the call so I didn't follow through but they did accurately reference a recent online application that I submitted approx. 5 days ago. Don't know if I'll call back or not, but there it is. Hope it helps.
