THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.

Called us claiming to be from Windows and our computer is full of virus'. It's a scam, do not give any personal info or grant them access to your computer. They can sound convincing if you aren't too familiar with computers.  Windows or google would never call you.

Same approach. Call came in from a 202 number. Indian accent with name Alex Matthews. When I asked for call back number, he gave me the 647 number. They called back a few minutes later, I let it go on voicemail and listened to the message - no message, just heard a bunch of people making these calls and laughing together.

We received a call from 647-931-1746. Asian woman who said her name was Jason from Windows Service Company. My wife got the first call and she hung up on the caller. Within minutes they called again and my wife gave me the phone. I ask for the number to verify her call and told her I would call back to verify. When i did not call back to verify she called again. Spoke very fast and indicated it was urgent. She was not happy when I did not call her back. I just told her that I would take my chances with my computer and told not to call again. You could tell she was call from a central sweat shop as you could hear the noise in the background.

Just been called - 3 times - being told that my computer is infected and information is being sent out from my computer - thought they didn't seem legit so told them I'd take down their instructions and check with friends who were more computer literate than me and ring them back - the number they gave was 0800 0148418 - googled and found out its a hoax - didn't give out any info - phew! They're ringing me back in an hour so might ask them a few more questions!

Same # an indian accent  used different name. Kept saying this is not a scam. Told him I saw all the news reports and that I would be reporting him to the BBB...then hung up! I feel so bad for older people who would have received a new computer for Christmas and think this is real.

This is the second time they've called me in the last few months. Ran the numpty in circles last time before telling him I'm a Linux user and that he's gotta feel pretty stupid for wasting his time.

They didn't get the point apparently.

Called the 647 number after a hang up by the 607 guys. Was answered with "Hello? hello? hello?" I said someone from windows called and told me to call them. He proceeded to launch into the full "This is Windows Support blah blah blah" Gave him a fake name and he said he'd call back.

I'm on leave, I'm bored, gonna have some fun with 419-scammers again.

I got the same call today from a guy claiming to be John Morrison from Windows Service Centre, also with an Indian accent - same deal, said my computer was infected and software was being downloaded to it.  I asked how he could prove he was legit and he game me a huge number saying it was my CLS ID and if I pressed Ctrl-Windows key-R, I'd be able to validate.

I'd disconnected from my network at that point, but told him to hold while I checked something.  I did some searching around on my Mac and saw that it was probably not legit - same thing as everyone is saying here, Windows would never contact me unsolicited.

I asked him if I could call him back later as I was in the middle of something and he gave me the number 647 931 1746, told me his Job ID was 130012.  I asked if there was a number I could call that was the number of the company he worked for and he said it was 0800 014 8418.

In searching for that 647 number, I can see this has popped up a lot... definitely a scam.

I get called by this company a lot, always by some guy who has an Indian accent, but claims to have an Anglo-sounding name I.E. "Steve Wilson" "James Lewis" etc.. Every time the caller claims my computer is "badly infected" and is "uploading viruses to windows." and urges me to log on to some website (that isn't windows affiliated) to fix it. This reeks of b***s*** for three VERY obvious reasons.

1. My computer isn't hooked up to the Internet all the time, because I have to use personal hotspot on my iPhone to access the Internet.

2. What he's claiming is impossible. Windows can't be infected by a single user of it's software, and assuming it could, they'd never contact you in that manner.

3. The website he sends me to asks for my credit card number, and it's not windows affiliated. I mean, come on. Really? It's like you're not even trying.

Probably a scam. Not even a good one.  Don't trust, don't give them any personal info.

I had a call as well from a person claiming to be from Windows. I was told that we had a computer in the house that was "badly infected". I knew this was not truthful, as Windows would not call in this manner EVER.

I suspect that they want to get remotely on our computers to steal information.

This could result in identity theft, credit card theft, or who knows what else.

DO NOT BELIEVE ANYONE WHO CALLS WITH THIS SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!

I should make it clear that this call came up on my phone as "Private Name/ Unknown Number. The number, 647-931-1746 is the phone number that was given to me by the caller.
