"WELLS FARGO BANK ALERT: Your Debit/ATM card has been temporarily DEACTIVATED. Please call (415) 203-8748"
They are using a different number now becareful
Laurie 2011-10-14 15:51:24 Unknown
Fake Wells Fargo - pretends they've deactivated your debit card and asks for all your passwords. Don't give them any information.

Got the same text. Is there ANY WAY to sick the authorities on these scum?
DCinEG 2011-09-12 19:01:18 Unknown
Got the text too - didn't fall for it. My question is: Why is Wells Fargo is so nonchalant about this? Who goes after these guys? No one - that's who. Report it to the police? Would they even care? The reason why there is this type of fraud is because they GET AWAY WITH IT, and it's us - the consumer - who gets the short end of the stick! I don't believe that ANYONE will look into this -- even though there is a presumably traceabel phone number.

Unfortunately I felt for that (ok, you can blame me, I deserve it). FYI, the phone given does reach out to an auto answering machine that follows 100% the same protocol of Wellsfargo legitimate number, INCLUDING ASKING FOR YOUR PIN NUMBER! Just after typing that a bell rung and I dropped the call. I them immediately called Wellsfargo and to my desperation was not helped since I was in my car and did not have the last deposit amount to confirm! I stopped by the first ATM I found and changed my pin. I then drove home and called Wellsfargo Security, and AFTER PROVIDING MY CARD NUMBER AND PIN TO A MACHINE!!!!! manged to talk with a banker to report the issue. I was informed it was a know phishing number that BTW IS STILL ACTIVE AS OF TODAY, THEY EVEN VERIFY THAT THE CARD NUMBER IS VALID BEFORE ASKING FOR FUTHER INFO. (I tried calling them again and use a random 16 digits, without success) I WISH WF CHANGED THEIR PROTOCOL AND NEVER ASKED FOR YOUR PIN OVER THE PHONE!
PHISHING FOR WELLSFARGO CUSTOMERS
Deepanshu 2011-09-08 19:03:46 Unknown
I received the same. Is Wells Fargo doing anything about it? It's certainly hurting their credibility.

Your debit card has been deactivated. Call Wells Fargo 650-550-9255
Carole 2011-09-08 17:17:53 SMS
I got a text message supposedly from Wells Fargo (which is my bank) from an Oregon phone number, 503-929-3160 saying my ATM card had been deactivated and to call a local number, 650 -550-9255. I did call that just to see what it was -- the recording said Wells Fargo Card Activation Services. But I hung up and called Wells Fargo proper -- they said it was a phishing scam and there's nothing wrong with the ATM card. Never had this before -- and I'd like to know how they got my cell phone number which I don't give out!!
Philip 2011-09-08 16:14:06 Unknown
I got this too. I was told you can email reportphish@wellsfargo.com and report the details. They should at least be able to shut down the 650-550-9255 number for fraud if people report this.

Just called Wells Fargo through the number on their website instead of 650-550-9255 from the text. They confirmed it's a scam. They said they don't text their customers.

My bf and I also got the exact same text messages. Do not have Wells Fargo accounts and looked up the number first and found this thread.

Just spoke to wells fargo, they are currently investigating this. The call assistant suggested it was country wide but wasn't sent by wells.
Hope this helps, I agree you've got-a-love the Internet.

My wife and I got the same text message claiming to be from Wells Fargo - we don't even have a Wells Fargo account! Even though we live in the 650 area code and it said to call back 650-550-9255...Super scam...
Ian 2011-09-08 04:40:45 Unknown

I also have gotten a text message as well. I have wells fargo and logegd on to my account. Odly I live in the 650 but thought it was weird that wells fargo would have my cell number. Logged online and check my alerts. Nothing. 100% a scam.

Gotta love google. It seemed sketch right away but I had to login my account since I do bank with WF. Saw that everything looked fine and did a search of the # to see if its related to WF. But a 507 area code texting with a 650 number at 9pm is very strange. Be careful.

I got the same text as well. Came here first. Very annoying.
Dre 2011-09-08 03:49:15 SMS
DO NOT CONTACT THE NUMBER. Definitely a scam. I don't even have an account with Wells Fargo, so there is no way that my non-existent card could have been deactivated.

Same deal - just got a text with "WELLS FARGO ALERT:...." - bogus. Thanks for reporting it.
ssd 2011-09-08 02:31:27 Unknown
Got same text today too. This is apparently a scam that's been going on for a while now. Apparently they started out calling but now they are texting. DO NOT CALL OR REPLY TO THESE TEXTS. If you ever get a text/VM, just call the 800 number listed on the back of your ATM to verify. Some unlucky people have unfortunately been duped in giving their atm number and passwrord apparently. I hope WFB hunts these criminal down and throw them in jail for life. b*****ds.

Received the same message today at 4:25pm. I did not call the number, but rather logged into my account online and checked for messages, alerts, and any strange activity. Nothing! So put the number in google search and here I am. Thanks to everyone for posting your messages on this. Now I don't even have to bother my bank about this.
