I received the same letter and fell for it, I never did my homework, when you need extra money to pay bills, put food on the table, take care of your children you become a victim of a horrible scam. These people are out there and are using the Postal Service Money orders to do their dirty work, please whoever is out there and reads this please contact me, they should be ashamed of themselves and get real jobs instead of taking advantage of vulnerable people. I hope the FBI, FTC and any other agency shuts them down and force them to pay back all the people that were scammed. Whatever goes around comes around and that applies to you GC Group Inc. whatever name you go by, of course that is a fake also.....I hope they are found and deserve serious jail time....

Yes, it absolutely is a scam.  You may be the victim, and you may not, depending on how it goes.  They send you a fake money order for close to $1,000, telling you your bank should cash it with no problem.  You are to send like, $700 to some fairly local address via Western Union or some cash source, and are asked to rate the service.  Then you fill out some silly form and are supposed to keep the remainder of the money for yourself.  Well, the bank will not honor the money order, so if you've used your own funds to complete this transaction, you are the victim.  If the bank does honor it for some bizarre reason, it's a really bad bank and they'd be liable.  Probably not the way it will go, however.  They're even careful not to use US postal service, because then it becomes a federal crime.  If you receive this e-mail, please forward it to spam@uce.gov and CFR2008A@consumerfraudreporting.org.  I always hope folks go to jail for this, but am probably just dreaming...

OK..I too received a FedEx envelope 7/3 with the same amount and bank as Krys.  I have looked on the web, google and such, but haven't called the bank as I received this check on a Saturday?? Saturday delivery for a secret shopper, don't think soooo. The documentation delivered with the check was instructions for I-134 Affidavit of Support (Department of Homeland Security top left hand corner) on one side and my instructions on how to proceed with the secret shopping.  Everything states all the way down to whom the check was written by to whom the remaining is to be sent. This just confirms my thoughts that this is a SCAM.  I will be sending an email to Christopher Walker (gcgroup108@aol.com) tonight to let him know I won't be participating in his secret shopping scam.  Good luck and thanks for the information on what you received.  I will keep you posted should I find any additional information.

I received a Fed Ex envelope this morning with the very same information; $2,880.60 check from    , R.G. Rutledge & Elizabeth Rutledge on a JP Morgan Chase Bank check
(0372 071000013 390001641073).  There is no way I will deposit this check at my bank without a guaranteed verification that the account this check is written from is valid and the funds are available.
Sounds too good to be true,; speand $100 at Wal-Mart, make $300 for doing so and send the balance by way of a money gram to an address of a Mary Spiegel in Cortez CO.

They sent me a check from JP Morgan Chase. When I called the bank the verify the account using the account # on the check they couldn't even tell me if the account was active. I called the directly and got no answer. I left a message and someone who said he was Chirstopher Walker called me back 2 minutes later. I told him that I couldn't verify the check and he sounded very confused. He said he would call back but he never did. I suspect that the person who sent the email and the check is NOT christopher walker the name on the check is R. G. Rutledge anyway. The first red flag is that no legit company would send you a personal check. This how the scam usually works. You spend $100 at wal-mart or whatever and you write your review as the mystery shopper (I doubt anybody looks at this review) Then you are supposed to deduct $300 from the check as a commission (for the record the check they sent me was for over $2880) and then send the rest to what they call the next shopper (who is likely just another person in on the scam). This is what will happen: If you deposit the check the money will show up in your account 24 hrs later. Then you go to wal-mart or whatever and send the remaining balance of around $2500 under the fake review of the money gram company. A few days later the bank where you deposited the check will realize that the account from which the check came from is bogus and all the money from that check that you deposited will be removed from your account. Meanwhile the $2500 you sent via money gram is received by that other person. Who collect the $2500 and do whatever they please with it. In the end you basically went through a fair amount of trouble and GAVE somebody $2500. It is a well run scam with them sending out legit checks. The only way I caught it was by calling the bank and attempting to verify the account which they couldn't do. I think GC group is a real company and I know Chrstopher Walker is a real person but I am pretty sure it wasn't him or his company that sent out the email or started the scam. I hope this explanation is helpful to people trying to unravel this operation.
