He is not an attorney. I have dealt with him. He works for a credit collection agency. He told me he was an attorney told me if I did not make payments he would have to go to court and seize my bank accounts and place liens on my property. I told him what I could afford he said that wasn't enough so I gave him another amount. He wasn't happy with that either said he would have to call client and see if they would accept that amount. I called the client myself. They were not happy to learn that he was threatening people. Told me he is not an attorney he is a debt collector. When I called Mr. Black back and informed him I had spoken with the "client" and what they told me he tried to bully me yet again. Our conversation ended with well how much can you afford to pay?

Can't you dumb shills at least TRY to make up better names? Every daytime TV fan knows that "John Black" has been associated with evil villain Stefano DiMera!

You should get a new job. You stink at shilling for the company.

Sharon-
I think you could've done a lot better than just get your fees and interest waived. Like you, I hopped online to get a better feel for whom I'm dealing with, and as you stated, so here I am. I agree that this 'John Black' seems reasonable, but remember, he works for the bank, not you. I'm planning on also settling my debt, but it sounds like I'm getting a much better deal than you. I've already got him to agree to take a huge portion of the debt off of whats owed and I'm pretty confident I'll end up only paying a little over half of what I owe. Have you actually paid anything yet? If not, you should try to get the bill down a lot more.
Mike

Sharon, so many of the posts here are very vague, and believe it or not, folks sometimes plant false testimonials on sites like this.
However, you do seem to be sincere in your post. It would help other greatly if you could give us so more details. Like what "banks" and "credit unions" does this fellow represent? Does it work for them? Is he an attorney or something? Thank you in advance

I've been dealing with this John Black over the last couple weeks. He negotiates settlements on debts for banks (or in my case for a credit union). He seems reasonable (but I had to do a little research myself on him online, so here I am), but he did get a hold of my ex-husband in order to get my phone number so I can relate to some of the posts on this site. I settled my bill with him rather than go to court.....but I stuck to my guns and didn't end up having to pay the ridiculous interest or fees :)

John Black has a consistent MO. Called me looking for someone with a similar last name. When I asked who he was and what his business was with that individual, he gave me the same line - It is a personal matter and it would be in his best interest to contact him. I gave him no contact information.

Let me see if I got this right. You're going to pay someone based only on the fact that they called you, & said you owe money? No mention of proof of debt? No paperwork in the mail? Got a call saying that you owe money? Send written proof to me in the mail, at the address you have on file. A real debt collector knows where you live. They have you're phone number, right?

I hate to say it, but you should probably pay it. I've been doing my research as well, and I've found out that he works for credit unions. It sounds like if I, or you, don't work something out with him to repay my loan, there is a good chance the credit union will sue me. I was going to pay it anyway, but just wanted to know a little more about this guy since I'd never heard of him before.

I received a call from him not to long ago & he represented himself as a lawyer for the credit place I had purchased a vehicle from. He even went as far as leaving a message with my mother in law saying for me or my husband to call him or he would take matters into his own hands. I am currently dealing with him, he has my card number, & I am supposed to call him tomorrow to make another payment. WHO IS THIS GUY & WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

This guy called my big brother asking where I lived. My brother wouldn't give him any of my info but he did let me know that this guy called him but that he didn't give out my info to him.

This person called me looking for my sister-in-law, I asked what it was about and he told me that it was best if she told me...privacy issues and such....seems shady to me

John Black works for credit unions.
I spoke with him. He negotiated an out-of-court settlement for the credit union who screwed me on a car loan.

John Black called looking for my ex-wife and would not say the reference of the call. Sounded very official, but it is probably a scam. Be wary!

a John Black has been calling my kids from this number. He even had my daughter's cell number. We don't know who he is and I want the phone calls stopped.
