Debt Collector
Called looking for a family member. Said that they had a failure to appear for court. Totally bogus call. They are just trying to get me to help them locate someone for them so that they can harass them.

someone called my mother claiming to be a lawyer and gave  me the same number as alex 657-217-2504 they told my mom to call scott evans and gave a case number when I called they told me I owed a bunch of money to us bank which is a real debt by the way, but it was way more that I remember them wanting me to pay. the lady I spoke to said she was gonna take me to court unless I paid a lump sum settlement out of court 600 bucks and some change then when I told her I could not pay that much she told me I could pay 300 bucks lump sum, I said I could not pay all that at once and I asked if I could pay 150 for two months and she went for that they were supposed to get 150 bucks today but my account was restricted because I lost my bank card thank god I lost my bank card or I would have paid them the first 150 this info you guys gave  me saved me 300 bucks thanks a lot :)

I have to laugh at these scammers - when you're going to be served with legal papers - the court process server just shows up.  No one calls you ahead of time to warn you.  And you wouldn't be served papers to appear in court the next morning - the system just doesn't work that way!  They're probably going to call back and try to scare you into paying a "fine" or a bogus debt.

Do NOT agree to pay or acknowledge the debt unless they MAIL (not email or fax) you a debt validation letter proving you owe a debt and they can collect that debt in your state.  This is required per the FDCPA.  Read about the FDCPA and learn your rights as a consumer.  When they call back, let them know you've reported them to the FTC, the FBI and your state's Attorney General (and do so).  Also let them know that all calls they make to you are being recorded so your own attorney can sue THEM for violations of the FDCPA (even if you don't have an attorney).  Bottom line - if they refuse to mail the legally required documentation proving you owe a debt, you owe them nothing.

A woman called me at work and left a message (knew my full name but had to go through our company switchboard to reach my extension).  She said they were contracted to schedule delivery of legal documents to appear in court that morning but they came back undeliverable.  I was supposed to contact a Mr. Scott Evans at (657) 217-2504 to avoid further legal complications (even gave me a case number).
