if you receive a phone call from this number stating that you owe them money and if you don't pay them they will send a team of officers down to you place to take you to the court house, dont believe this.  this is a scam.  don't give your information out.  remember in any civil case no authorities can come to your place of work or resident and involve themself in this matter.

Debt Collector
My daughter got a call from this number as well. He claimed his name was Ryan. And he spoke with a very heavy Indian accent. He claimed that she owed $750.00 and had her personal info as well. He told her that if she didn't pay immediately that she would be picked up by police officers at her home/work and taken to court. And that her parents were listed as references and that they had to be at the court house as well. He had our names as well.
Recalling that a similar but different situation happened to me not long ago, I came online and found sites for both numbers he claimed. The 661-210-4686 is a fax number to a place in Castaic, CA in Los Angeles County. And the other number 941-961-8518 is a disconnected cell phone number.
He had my daughter so upset and worried and scared.
We live in the West Virginia area. So if you get similar calls from either of these numbers, here is the number to Secret Svc to report it. 304-347-5188
*Note* After calling the 661-210-4686 and hung up because of it being a fax number. This so called Ryan called immediately back at the 941-961-8518. However, as I said, when we tried that number it came back as being disconnected.

Debt Collector
Same thing happened to me this morning that MANDIE reported - same phone #'s and everything.  Only difference is the guy used the name Eric Chong (I think).  He was so hard to understand and there was a lot of background noise, including laughter from the people around him.  Probably laughing at our expense, I'm sure.

Phony ?Payday Loan? Debt Collectors Raise Concerns of Mass Data Breach
7/31/2009

Tools | Print RSS Bookmark & Share    Bookmark & ShareBuzz up!Facebook MySpace  Delicious StumbleUpon Better Business Bureau issues warning about phony debt collectors calling consumers nationwide claiming that they have defaulted on a payday loan and will be arrested if they don?t pay immediately. Claiming to be lawyers, the scammers say they are with the ?Financial Accountability Association? or the ?Federal Legislation of Unsecured Loans? and are equipped with a disconcerting amount of personal information about their potential victims.

Because the scammers have so much information about potential victims, BBB is concerned that this may be the result of a data breach. Thousands of people may have had their personal information compromised, and given the scammers? tactics, it appears that those who have previously used payday loan services could be particularly at risk.

According to reports received by BBB and posted online, the scammers accuse the victim of defaulting on a payday loan and claim they are being sued. The phony debt collector threatens that, if the victim doesn?t pay as much as $1,000 immediately via wire or by providing bank account or credit card numbers, he or she will be arrested and extradited to California within the hour to stand trial. The scammers often have the victim?s Social Security, old bank account numbers or driver?s license numbers as well as home addresses, employer information and even the names of personal friends and professional references.

BBB offers the following advice to consumers if they receive a suspicious telephone call about an outstanding debt:

Ask the debt collector to provide official documentation which substantiates the debt.
Do not provide or confirm any bank account, credit card or other personal information over the phone until you have confirmed the legitimacy of the call.
File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission online if the caller is abusive, uses threats or otherwise violates federal telemarketing laws.
File a complaint with BBB online if you believe a debt collector is trying to scam you.

According to complaints online, phone numbers that the scammers are calling from include: 949-468-5107, 415-200-0274, 415-200-0274, 213-784-5745, 408-715-1614 and many others.

Called the civil court in my city. Said that they had no idea what I was talking about. told me I would be arrested too. They are fishing for you infomation. Then I called the BBB. They told me to register a complaint with www.ic3.gov.. But the civil court told me that there was nothing there and that the time that they gave to be at court was not even a court time.
