They are debt collectors. They will say anything to get information, including saying they are fund raisers.

They called and left a message, sort of. Background noise but no people talking, some kind of tapping sound, then a girl laughing into the phone. It ended there. Called on my cell phone too.

I have yet to find out what this collection agency is supposed to be calling about. I do not have any money I am unemployed so it makes no sense to even answer even if it is to find out what they want my money for. I set my phone on silent as their ringtone, so when they call I am never disturbed.

TRUE !  They are under an Investigation.rumor has it there will be some lengthy jail
  sentences this go around. It's about to finally catch up to them.   About Time !!

These idiots are very rude to call and ask me if I am "My Name with a birthdate of" and they proceed to verify my birthdate. The whole time I ask who this is and she just says Veronica, and I ask again, and she says with a giggle "Oh you want to know my company name?" I said yes, I am in the middle of a busniess call on the other line saving a client's home from foreclosure, so who the heck are you? She giggles and says she is calling about collection on a student loan, I just hung up!

Student loan collectors.  I have the disability discharge and also a court stipulation to cancel off the student loans, which were handled by a group in Colorado originally.  These people are threatening and quite obnoxious.  Wish cell phones could block calls like this.

Scammers; as soon as they say to have the person or their attorney call, it's pretty much all for extortion on a supposed loan that was never paid (since it was never given).  There are thousands of these losers out there that get information through legit and not so legit sources and then try to use the info to get money through threats, embarassment and intimidation.  This stuff is on the FBI website as well as many complaint boards like this one.  Just hang up on them if they start calling from another number; the second "attorney" comes into it, you can bet that it's a scam.  These foreign losers give themselves away so often because they get their knowledge of US legal matters from the TV shows they watch.  They learn one legal word and then go to town with it.

May I suggest the air horn cure?  Should only take once or twice.  I just tell these losers (if I accidently pick up, since I don't usually answer calls I don't recognize) that I don't accept anonymous calls on my phone, and that when they are prepared to identify themselves by name and company, then I will ask the wife or decide myself  if we want to talk to them, then hang up.

Actually, there is no such thing as a "federal payroll matter" that would involve an individual.  This sounds like one of the many scams out there trying to use information gotten through supposedly legitimate locations (usually online)  and then using the information to attempt extortion.  Unless there is a wage garnishment through a court (and they would have to give you court documents for that)  you do not have to let your company be used.  
Do not let your company or your employees become involved in any way.  
Just tell your staff to state that they do not take personal messages of any sort, and hang up on the caller.  Any threats of reporting people to superiors or supervisors should just be met with the exact same statment over and over again.  
Then, if your employee finds they are being scammed or harassed, you will not have been part of the issue.  You do not need to be a weapon in an extortionist's arsenal.

Ms. Remel  called me looking for my girl-friend, who is disabled, would not tell me the nature of the call & said to have her or her attourney contact her. I said without giving me the information to pass that I will not pass the message. My girlfriend did have a student loan that was settled by SS Admstrtn. due to her disability. They call her & me several times a day, but we won't answer when we see this #.

They call, then put me on hold, and the one time that I talked to someone, they told me that they were looking for somebody called Russ Meyers. I don't know anybody by that name, so I wish they'd quit calling me

Keep calling my personal cell phone for someone else. Also keep calling me after 9pm, which is against federal law. I will file a complaint against them with the FTC.

I am fed up with these calls, We are on the do not call list and I am going too start recording these calls and than report You for harrassment. Do not call here again! These are not any bills We owe for so leave Us alone. My Husband just had surgery and They have called twice today and woke Him up, They think if They change the phone number They are calling from, when They call We won't recognize it.

just got a call  from this number asking for someone we dont know...and the woman aka B* got very rude and told me that this was the contact number she was given...she was told, repeatedly, that you have the wrong number. Must be a collection  group.

Continously calls to speak to "Rashad" or "Rashon",  or some similar name.  We continue to respond that person does not live here, we are not related to anyone by that name nor do we know anyone by that name.   It is extremely annoying and irritating.

Got a call asking for my wife.  When I asked who was calling and what the call was in reference to, the call just asked for my wife again.  I explained that if she (the caller) couldn't state her business, I couldn't help her talk to my wife.  She said that I was being "very rude" and that she'd just call back every 5 minutes if that's what I wanted.
My wife is middle-aged, has a PhD and no outstanding student loans - if that's what this company collects.

These clowns even call the sick and dying, putting pressure to family and friends.......they need a new business. They call anytime and seveal times a day. RUDE.

These people are calling 3 times a day asking for somebody who doesn't live here. I block their number and they call from another one. They are about to get their a***s sued off.

I work at a labor union.  They called looking for one of our members - who does not and never has worked at our location.  When I told the woman he doesn't work here, she giggled and said "no message".  You'd think even debt collectors would be wise enough not to hire someone who is going to giggle like that.  Very unprofessional and rude.

As with most calls from debt collectors, they 'all' ask for a phony name. This one was calling for a 'Raybert' or some such first name.

Called my 82 yr old mom's house looking for a person we don't know.  Very rude.

This phone # came up right after a purchase I made on-line to a reputable source.
