Just got a call from 702-314-8329 on my home number in Oakville, ON. Female-sounding voice with an accent which seemed Indian / south Asian. Also declared to be from "Protect Life Insurance". I told the person "please do not call this number" and hung up.

For some time over past months (year or so), I was getting telemarketing calls from air duct cleaning companies. Always from someone with an Indian-sounding accent... saw a recent "Marketplace" episode where these calls were traced to telemarketing "boiler rooms" in Pakistan. Haven't had many of these lately.

I'm assuming today's call is from the same sort of Pakistan boiler room as those pesky air duct calls. Same everything but the product/service.

My response is always the same. I never confirm my identity to someone who has not identified him/herself as someone I want to converse with (they always get my surname because they are probably working from public phone directories). These calls usually follow a consistent pattern... there is usally a noticeable delay from my "hello" to any response from their side. That's my first clue it's likely a telemarketer. They always start with something like "Hello Mr. <my surname>, how are you today?". I only respond by asking "who is calling?", and when they announce the company name (used to be air duct cleaning, but now it seems life insurance) it's obviously a telemarketer, so I just say "do not call this number" and hang up immediately. I NEVER engage in conversation, no matter what else they might say.

Telemarketer
Called just now on my landline here in Toronto.  Indian/Middle Eastern sounding gentleman over a heavily static-ed line said he was calling from Protect Life Insurance.  And because they have a rep in my area (impressive for a company using a Las Vegas area code) wanted to offer a free consultation, etc, etc, etc....

I kept asking him to explain what he believed "my area" to be.  He wouldn't answer that.  I asked if he even know what number his auto-dialer had called, he said yes but wouldn't tell me my number.

I told him he might as well remove me from his calling list, because I would waste as much time of theirs as a could from now on if they called.  He changed languages and disconnected me.

Just received a call from this number.  No one on the line when I answered but before I hung up, a computer generated voice said 'goodbye'.  Nothing more.  You're right about the crank call techniques Dave, seems they're too lazy to even make the effort.

I had the same thing happen, I picked up, said hello, and no one answered.  I waited for a few seconds and they hung up on the other end.  They didn't ask for Seemore Butts or anything.  People just don't know how to crank call these days.

This evening around 7:30 PM., I got a call from 702-314-8329. No one said a word, and no message was left. For me, this is the third time in about the past 10 days or so, that a unwanted or unfamiliar number has called my home.

I too received a call from this number, but didn't recognize so didn't answer. Caller did not leave a message. This is how that scamming company, Canadian Pharmacy, operates.
