Got taken by these creeps about 2 weeks ago for $299, they wanted 450 and I said no. Not knowing nor thinking I paid this. Then to rob salt in the wound they've locked my domain. I'd like to make a formal complaint with this company but not sure who to contact. Would love to see them shut down.

I got a phone call from Yellow Pages representative asking about my domain (which I had let expire). They wanted to know if that was how I wanted my business listed in Yellow Pages. Three days later, I received a phone call from the company where I had purchased the domain. The representative said that the domain was going to be auctioned; but I could still renew it for $2.99 per month. I wasn't about to give some unsolicited person my credit card number. So I took their phone number and Googled it. This page was what I found.

Be safe, the scammers are getting smarter.

Similar experience to those listed above but a new twist. English speaker said he was representing YP and needed to know how listing for (nonexistent) business should read

Just got a similar call from 702-751-8891.   I only use one registrar so I know exactly which domains I have recently allowed to expire because they were no longer needed.  I checked the registrant information and discovered the following --

Registered through: Enom, Inc

Reactivation Period (Reactivation-Pending@enom.com)
  +1.4252744500
  Fax: +1.4259744791
  15801 NE 24th Street
  Bellevue, WA 98004
  US

Looks like their automated systems snapped up my expired domain and now they're trying to sell it back to me for a premium.  I guess they outsource the actual cold-calling in hopes to drum up some business.  Hopefully this information is handy with dealing with the calls in the future.

just got the same type of call, except they claimed to be from yellow pages.  I just said bye and hung up.  Phone rang about 20 seconds later, gave the same call display name "phone agent 22".  Answered the call, same guy starts with the same crap.  I just kept saying "pardon" every 3 or 4 seconds till he was yelling so loud my wife could hear him across the room.  He finally gave up.  Called back about 15 seconds later, wife answered and said in her best mechanical voice "Sorry, the number you have dialed is no longer in service" and hung up.  He must have moved on to the next person on his list.
I too have let some domains expire in the last few months.

Same thing just happened to me twice. But it was from 702-751-8891. Guy with a foreign accent kept talking over me, saying this wasn't a sales call and would not take no for an answer. And I think he claimed to be from the Yellow Pages.

Domain Name Scavenger Company.  Called to let me know that they had purchased a domain that I purposely let expire and they were going to put it up for auction.  I told them I was sorry that they purchased the name and said I was not interested and to have a good day.  Freaking prick then called me back,  telling me I was rude.  Rude is calling me in the first place trying to sell me something I did not want in the first place.

These idiots from India have called me 5 times already and lie and say they are not with any company when there is loud backgroung noise from their call center.  They always just want to know if I am the owner of a domain name and then hang up on me!!!  I hate these irritating leaches!  Last number they called from was 702-751-8891

Just got a call also - first two callers had foreign accents.  The first call asked what my business hours were.  I asked what business?  When they said the name, I had never used that domain for anything, I just said it wasn't me.  Second call I said, I don't own that domain.  I told him I used to, but I don't anymore.  He said good bye.  Next call was from an American named Jeremiah who asked the same question.   I told him I was just about to report these suspicious phone calls.  He was shocked.  I asked what company he works for.  He refused to tell me.  I told him he had called me and wants to talk to me so what company does he work for?  He told me he doesn't want to talk to me.  I said you called me but don't want to talk to me?  He hung up.

Similar incident to that mentioned by dave.  Foreign accent calls me twice about my expired domain.  I tell him the business is now closed.  30 minutes later an english speaking man calls to tell me that the domain name interested his company and that they now have rights to it.  So I said, suppose I wanted my domain name back.. he then quotes me that since they had acquired it and incurred costs, it would cost me $299.00 ...  I told him thanks enjoy your new found domain.  Out of curiousity I went back to the hosting site where I bought the domain from, and I could still renew the domain for $13.99 even though it had expired.. So consider these callers from what appears to be Indian Springs Nevada  to be fraudulent.. and rip off artists.

Got first call from this number from a foreigner asking if I was the owner of a business related to a domain name that I recently let expire.  I said that I was not interested, that I let the domain expire and there was never a business.  Second call was an American man, very pushy, who asked the same thing.  I told him that someone already called and that I wasn't interested, and to please take me off any list he had.  He started to speak over me, and said, "We have your domain."  I said that I know the business he's in and that I don't want the frigging domain.  I said that I'm hanging up now, and he said that he would just call right back.  I hung up and he called back three times after that;  I didn't answer.  The domain name was fully expired, and I could have repurchased it from GoDaddy for $8, but these people try to make it seem like you can't get your domain name back unless they help you (for a premium price).
