Got a call from this number. I called the number back. They claim it's Sallie Mae! I got suspicious right away: 1. Sallie Mae NEVER responds within 2 rings of the phone; 2.The guy at the other end, after stating "Thank you for calling Sallie Mae", immediately requested SS#  "to verify your information" and "number you're calling from"!
It's just another scam! DON'T EVER GIVE OUT YOU SSN! Sallie Mae never requests such information!
(usually last 4 digits, and so on).

Writing the letter may or may not work...better to try it than not.  =)

It is called a "Cease and Desist" letter. You can get the formats online. Hope this helps.

So, I applied to Westwood in Denver for their online classes. I ended up not liking it at all and decided I should go to a real college in my town. So I did. I have a parent - student loan because I wasn't old enough (20) to take one out alone. So, when the loan was due, they started emailing me saying "Student update" I always deleted them because I thought it was junk. Then the calls started.  Today alone in 5 hours they've called me 5 times, is that flipping insane or what?!? I've told them to send me a bill and ill get something to them but they haven't they want me to pay with credit card on the phone and I keep saying no. WTF can I do here?!?!

It's actually against the law to call you before 8am after 9pm, on Sundays and major holidays or at work. A lot of them do it anyways  If they do any of these things you have the right to tell them they are infringing on your rights and if they do not stop calling (On Sundays, after 9, at my work Etc.) you will press charges.  It'll usually stop them just knowing you know what your rights are.

If Not, you can also answer the phone and just ask them for their companies name and address.  They have to give it to you and you are not obligated to answer anything.  Once you have the address and company name you can either verbally ask them not to call you again at all or simply hang up on them.  You want to write to the company Tell them you do not want anyone to contact you via telephone anymore and under any circumstances.  That you are revoking their right to call you  at home or at work effective immediately.  Don't forget to include you name, the date, Maybe a case #.  Once it's requested in writing they have to follow it. Best of luck to all of you...

Yep it's Sallie,
I've been round and round with them and the Indian call centers. I've made payment deals with the caller only to find out that the callers are not aloud to make payment deals. So I just stopped answering any phone number I don't know. My next step is to change my number in hopes to cut down the constent phone calls. Up to 30 calls a day... WOW !!!

Just another random phone number that leaves no message and is clearly just your phone number being on some sort of list. Whether it is a telemarketer or scam remains to be seen. Don't pick up!
