Caller leaves no msg. on machine

Newspapers give them your phone number in order to get you to resubscribe.

A guy called me from this number regarding my subscription to The Commercial Appeal (Memphis Newspaper). He knew my name and address. I just started getting the C/A about a month ago and the starting price was $13 but that is going to go up after 3 months. The guy said they could extend the deal past the 3 months. So I said ok! THEN he asked for my credit card number. I asked him didn't he already have that on file...I get the fee automaticall deducted. That's when I knew it was a scam. I told him I'd call them back when I wasn't busy, but he persisted that he'd call me back. I told him that's ok...I don't want the deal. He was still asking why not when I hung up the phone.

Be careful on this one. I got calls everday from 704-523-5773. I decided to answer last night (June 1, 2010). Turned out to "suppose ably" be a company working subscriptions for the Virginia-Pilot newspaper. They wanted me to renew my subscription for $6 a month vice the $15 every 2-weeks they claim I pay now. Do the math, $6/month is $72/YR where $15/13-wk is $60/YR. They were too dang stupid to realzie their own deal made no sense. Heck, I figured it out and I only have a PHD (Public High school Diploma). Turned out they wanted my credit card to renew over the phone. I told them heck no and I would renew online. They said the great deal wasn't available online. Great deal I said, do the math. I can see where someone could fall for this as the caller knew my name, address and renewal date. I'm calling Virginia Pilot newspaper today to verify this company so more to follow.
