i just got a call from mecklenburge county jail i cnt recieve the call and i want too wat do i do???

I got a call from this number; naturally being a child who has grown up with Caller ID, I didn't answer it b/c I didn't know the number and let the call go straight to voicemail; when I checked my voicemail message it stated "Do you want to access a collect call" and it cut off before it could finish recording;

So in the last few weeks we have gotten at least ten calls from 713-574-1101 on the land line. athe caller I.D. says Texas call. When I answer it says "this number is unable to except collect calls." When I call back it says that the number is disconnected. The only person i know who lives in Texas is my nephew who is in Iraq. It is driving me crazy and I cant get the block taken off, not in my name. Anyone have any idea what this number is????

Update to my post on 10 Mar 2009

After a little digging, I found out that someone I know was indeed trying to contact me from jail in Mecklenburg County. In order to receive the call, I had to first set up an account with Global Tel*Link. After setting up the acct, I was able to receive the call from my friend.

I'm glad that I was inquisitive and didn't just ignore the calls. This friend was unable to contact anyone for 2 days until I figured it all out.

I suggest you make sure your family and close friends are accounted for. If you haven't heard from "John" or "Jane" in a while, it might be them trying to call you for help!

I received a missed call from this number @ 4:15pm on 03/12/2009, on my home phone.  This is odd because no one ever calls me on my home phone, since I have a cell.  This number is for Gary Weed, per Caller ID.  I called it back, but the number is disconnected.  The next day, I had an automated message from Global something, but it came up as an Unknown Caller.  I deleted the message without even listening to it.  After reading the above messages, I realize it was Global Tel.

I got the call on my cell today @ 4:23pm. I only answered it because the number is close to my office phone number...I thought my boss was trying to get in touch with me. Just like "kiserk" above, I heard "does not accept collect calls" and I immediately hung up.

I hope the calls don't continue because I cannot be hassled by a scammer or anyone in jail! I called all my people and everyone is accounted for.  :o)

You guys don't seem to understand, that yes, 704-940-0077 is/was a phone number used from the Mecklenburg County Jail, but ALSO, a company is using this number as their caller ID to scam people.

It is 2:50 a.m.  My cell rang and scared the daylights out of us.  Nothing good comes by phone at that time.  All I heard before it disconnected was something like "does not accept collect calls".  I googled the number and read some of the comments. What is correct?  Is it a collect call from CharMeck jail or a fake number from UBS?  The phone company employee who posted his research seems to know what he is talking about.

This is a collect call form an inmate at CharMeck jail, trust me I accept the calls! The person there is like family....

***update*** Mecklenburg County Jail now goes through Global Tel 800-231-0193.

uumm to the woman above me i think my boyfriends in trouble but none of my phones accept collect calls so he cant reach me i hope you read this so u can tell me

Actually, this call is really from inmates in the Mecklanburg County Jail in Charlotte, NC.  My brother in-law just called us and told me he needed to be bonded out because he was arrested for fighting with his wife, (idiot).  Anyway, this really is someone who wants to talk to you.  Yes, there are options you can push to make the calls go away, but it is legite.

I got 5 calls from this number in under 10 minutes, it said the same thing.. my cell rang, something about a (Jail) collect call, and I pressed option #2, to BLOCK all calls using this "So Called" strange- service. HIT THE BLOCK OPTION but, you have to answer this number for the calls to stop!! Then follow the instrustions to Accept, Decline, or BLOCK this service from your number. Good luck peoples.. it hasn't rang again.

I keep receiving calls from this number too, and when I don't answer the call, it is a blank message with nothing attached.

i got this call too mornings straight. its some jail. but you have to add pre-paid collect services at the number they give you. glad my phone carrier blocked the charges!

You have to open an account with www.correctionalbillingservices.com in order to start receiving calls. You have to prepay before someone can call you "collect." It's not really collect because you've already paid for minutes.

Something to do with inmates..... my husband keeps getting it on his cell
phone.
