Received a call from this number...it came up 'unknown' so I didn't answer. The voicemail that was left advised that his name was Officer Alan Parker, I needed to call back and if I didn't his only option would be to press charges. For what, I don't know. This is a foreign man that almost sounds like he used Hooked on Phonics to speak English.

WALLINGFORD, CT, August 07, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Better Business Bureau is warning consumers about would-be debt collectors who call "payday" loan holders, threatening arrest if they don't pay immediately.

A payday loan, also known as a paycheck advance, is a short-term cash advance intended to cover expenses until the holder's next payday.

The callers claim they are lawyers with the "Financial Accountability Association" or the "Federal Legislation of Unsecured Loans," and they are armed with stolen personal information from their victims, indicating a major security breach of unknown origin. The names used by the scammers may change with time.

According to Connecticut Better Business Bureau President, Paulette Scarpetti, payday loan holders appear to be particularly at risk.

"Because the scammers have so much information about potential victims, BBB is concerned that this may be the result of a data breach. Thousands of people may have had their personal information compromised."

Reports received by Better Business Bureau and posted online explain the con artists threaten the loan holders of defaulting and claim they are being sued. The imposters threaten the loan holders with imminent arrest and extradition to California to stand trial, unless they immediately wire $1000 or provide bank account or credit card information.

Connecticut Better Business Bureau has advice for consumers who receive suspicious telephone calls about an outstanding debt:

-Don't be bullied into immediate action. Ask the debt collector to provide official documentation that substantiates the debt.
-Do not provide or confirm any bank account, credit card or other personal information over the telephone until you confirm the legitimacy of the call.
-If you believe a debt collector is trying to scam you, file an abuse complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) online at www. ftc.gov, or by telephone at (202) 326-2222. Also file a complaint with your Better Business Bureau at http://www.bbb.org or by telephone at 203-269-2700, ext. 2.

Crazy cause I'm  a 17 yr old still in high school!!!! The man also said his name was Eric Mathis

I'm confused as to why you would be served a court summons AT WORK unless you have been ducking getting served at home.  If that was the case you would know that you were being sued, and unless you are an idiot you would know why and by whom.

You know what is really fishy...Why would someone go on a site to complain about a company that happens to be legit.  Why are all these messages minutes apart.  Why are these for messages the only for messages I've seen in all the research I've being doing on this company that would speak for legitimacy.  I will tell you why. because anyone can post bulls**t on here and who's going to do anything about it.  don't let the messages on here saying that people actually had to go to court on this crap scare you.

I got a call from a man with an Arabic sounding accent earlier this morning asking for my mother by name.  I said she was not home but I could take a message.  He told me to have her call 707 693 4079 and ask for Adam Parker from united legal offices and that it was imperative she call because it was regarding a law suit.  At one point he began reciting an SS# as if to ask me if that was right. It didn't to me seem professional that he would tell me, without any knowledge of my relation to the woman he was intending to call, that it was regarding a lawsuit, so i did some research on united legal offices and found a few articles regarding a scam with calls parallel to the one I had taken.  I called the number he gave and informed him of the articles i was finding.  He said that united legal offices was a scam but his company was united legal investigation offices.  He then put me on hold and while I was on hold I researched the second name and came up with, once again, articles about a scam.  When he came back I told him, again, of my findings.  he put me back on hold right away so I hung up.

The caller has phone number and SS#.  When asked what the call is about, the caller will not say until the SS# is confirmed.  Caller states he is calling from a law firm.  Most of the time I can't understand what he is saying.  I asked to speak to someone who speaks english, but get nowhere.
