I got a call from this number which asked to speak to me. I answered this is "-----." The female then stated "please hold so I can transfer your call to an attorney to get your charges dismissed. I asked "an attorney for what?" I told her just let me speak to this "attorney." A person by the name of MICHAEL STEINBERG proceeded to tell me that he was an attorney and that charges were filed against me for check and Internet fraud and an arrest warrant would be filed today for not paying my debt to "mycashnow." I told him "I don't know what you're talking about!!!" He then said that I owed a over a thousand dollars to this place and they were having me arrested today if payment was not made. I told them "Okay, I'll be at my house waiting and you can mail your court papers so I can have attorney read them. Then they hung up on me. Lol...

Just got call from this number. First it was a woman and would not tell me her name the first time. Said it was Lact but voicemail she left clearly said Tracy. She put me thru to so called attorney and as soon as I asked what it was about, he became rude and nasty. Would not let me talk. Insisted I had the MD States Attorney after me. I asked to provide info and he laughed then hung up on me. Uncalled my states attorneys office and they ran a complete search of my name and nothing came up! Clean record in which case I knew it was. Freaking idiots. My states attorney told me to call police if they call again and report it

Just got a call from this number..... told me she was a lawyer and my case was just handed over to her.   That I had a warrant against me and could face up a year in jail.   I used payday loans in the past and I know that is how she got my information.  Very scary as she knew a lot of my business.   However, I did not give her my social. I did tell her I did use this company a long time ago and that I filed Chapter 13 and everything was included in that and she still wanted money!!  I asked her to fax over documents and she refused and just said that my case will go to trial.  I told her I didn't know what she was talking about and asked her to please provide me with information which she kept refusing.   Very pushy and aggressive.   I called my attorney and she said do not talk to her anymore.  She gave me one hour to call her back to give her 910.32 or she was turning me over to the state.   I asked why I am just now hearing about this..... she said I was rude and hung up on me.   I called the company she claims that she states is coming againist me and they told me I don't owe them anything.   Hmmmmmmm... so the company that this so called lawyer is stating I owe them money, the actual company states I owe them nothing.   I called MY lawyer back and she stated that if she calls me back to tell her what she's doing is illegal and hang up.   These people called me at work demanding money.

Just got multiple calls from these people. The man I talked with was EXTREMELY aggressive with me! Told me "The State" was going to have me arrested. I explained that I was confused as I speak with several state agencies on a weekly basis and NO ONE has said a thing to me. He got very angry with me at that point. Stated I owed over 900.00 to this company. I explained that was rediculous as I haven't worked since Dec of last year and had maybe 5.00 to my name. He asked " are you nervous?" I told him not at all. He said "you'll be real nervous after I hang up this phone" and then hung up on me! This is supposed to be a lawyer? I have a hard time believing this.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
