Got the same caller ID from the same number.  I answered, it was a collect call from the "Harris County Jail."  I hung up as I don't know anybody in a Harris County.  With a quick google I found out that it's a jail in Houston, TX.  Probably somebody trying to reach a friend or relative for bail and dialed wrong.  They never called back.

Wife received a call - caller identified himself as Sgt Garcia - said they had arrested someone and we needed to call back within next 2-3 minutes.  Did that - sounded like a bunch of people in the background - even thought I could here a baby crying - talked briefly with someone with a difficult (for me) to understand Hispanic accent.  Whomever it was hung up on me!  Only know a couple of individuals in Houston (son and wife) both of whom were safely at their home.

I got a call from "PAY PHONE" this morning.  Same sort of stories as others have told.  It was supposedly Harris County Jail and some inmate gave them my number.  I was afraid a relative or friend had somehow gotten into trouble and was reaching out to me.  Clearly not the case.  "Deputy Garcia" said I needed to call *72 832 329 4637 in order for Harris County jail to remove the charges from my bill and remove me number as a contact for the inmate.  I hung up and 1 minute later found this posting and then a few others warning of the dangers of calling that number.

I got the same call from 713-718-1025 today. I accepted the call because I know people in Houston and have gotten a legitimate call from a jail before. I knew to hang up when the "officer" started instructing me to dial *72XXX-XXX-XXXX because a recorded voice warned me before I accepted the call. I had never heard of this scam before but after this happened and I googled Harris County, I was amazed to read that it happens all the time!
I think it is outrageous that Harris County doesn't do something to prevent this abuse! I read online that Harris County recently installed a pay phone in every cell. I read somewhere else that they receive $2.00 for every collect call the inmates make, so they have no interest in preventing any calls. Give me a break!!
Not to mention the fear and anxiousness I experienced when this call came in, worried that someone I knew was in jail. It was the worry that made me accept the call, I wasn't going to take a chance that someone i know WAS calling. There are reports online going back several years. It makes me mad that something hasn't been done to stop this!!

Got a call from this number and on caller id it said it was a pay phone. I answered and a recording came on saying something about a correctional institute. I don't know of anyone in prison so I hung up.

THIS IS A SCAM.  I got a call from the same phone number yesterday.  The inmate (posing as a jail officer) asks if you know so and so, then when you tell them they have a wrong number they say in that case they can have the charge removed from your phone bill.  He tells you to call his secretary or whatever, and gives you a phone number starting with *72.  Following through with this will give them access to using your number for long distance charges.

When you get your phone bill, call the phone company and they will usually remove the charge since it was a scam.
