Received another call from 716-206-3218 showing they were from IRS...Tried calling # back, wouldn't go through...said to ck # again. Ck'd on internet and found it to be a scam and to report it. I am on the donot call list, but, doesn't seem to make a difference any more. I hope these scammers are finally caught before someone's identity is stolen................

Scam do not call!
Go to IRS.gov it provides you with numbers to call if you believe you do owe taxes.
"The truth is the IRS usually first contacts people by mail ? not by phone ? about unpaid taxes. And the IRS won?t ask for payment using a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer. The IRS also won?t ask for a credit card number over the phone.
For more information or to report a scam, go to www.irs.gov and type "scam" in the search box."

I just received the same kind of phone call. They called from a 716 number, which when you call back it's not in service. I did call back the number that they left 877-968-3413 and it does sound totally legit. Once I was asked for the case # or last four of my SS# I hung up. I decided to go do some googling and found this. Also found a link for all of you to read. Yes this is a scam so be careful. DO NOT GIVE OUT PERSONAL INFO.

716-206-3218 called and left a voicemail on 5/8/2014 saying it was the irs and to call before the end of the business day. I didn't and checked the number knowing the irs always contacts by mail. SCAMMERS!

Oh! Are you dumm, stupid or part of this fraud.
Robin 2014-04-24 23:24:22 Unknown
Got this call this afternoon to call 877-968-3413 and gave me a case number. I definitely have nothing going on with the IRS and haven't received anything in the mail.

I was contacted on 4-11-14 on both my cell# and at my work#.
Same message...call by the end of the day, etc.
I figured it was a scam....I have NEVER had the IRS call me....all communications have always been via the USPS.

Scammers often times spoof official agencies--I had one spoof Federal Marshalls office last year--when I called they informed me that I was out of their jurisdiction, and there was nothing that they were aware of. Check with the IRS but don't use their number; go with an official number from online.
Scammers sometimes post on these sites hoping you will not realize that they are part of the scam. Easy to spot though. Poor grammar, spelling and other issues that anyone with a 6th grade education can spot if they look carefully. Good luck.

I think they are spoofing the irs with 1877 968 3413

I received this call this morning and they immediately asked for my SSN. I told them that I didn't feel comfortable, and asked if I could just give them the case number that was given during the recorded message. He insisted that they would need my SSN to verify my identity. I refused, and he said that I could take it up with my local IRS office and hung up. I googled the "716" number and it lead me to this site. I googled the "877" number, and it stated that no such number exists. It is my understanding that the IRS will contact you by letter if there is an issue with your status, and not leave a message saying that you must contact them by the end of the day. Please proceed with caution... give NO ONE your SSN!

I have received several calls from this number on my cell phone over the past weeks. The last call, there was an automated message left stating that it was the IRS and to call 1-800-829-7650 and use code 2887960089 by the end of the day. I did not. Is there any way to catch these crooks?
Katherine G. 2014-04-02 23:26:51 Unknown
I got the same call from the same number. I was reluctant to give them any info so I went to the www.irs.gov website and called their 800 number. It is all legit. The call I received is actually the IRS!

Hi, Jess - I think your "posting" in reference to this number is the BEST way to handle anyone calling from this number. As stated earlier, I don't know whom or what to believe - because of the different views presented here on this site! Some actually seem to know what they are talking about and in their opinion, those that ignore the call should be concerned.
But my opinion hasn't changed!! If the IRS actually uses that type of system to contact certain individuals, they are, for the most part, wasting theirs and others time because with the technology that exist in today's world, with all the "blocking" techniques available and the reverse number "look-ups". If the IRS is really interested in contacting someone regarding a legitimate claim, I will "guaran-damn-tee" you they will use the US Postal System first, then "maybe" follow that up with a "personal" call from an 800 number - not some damn "so called not in service number!!
I am absolutely positive that anyone from this number will "NEVER" be able to actually converse with me!!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

I also received several phone calls from the same 716 # most are referring to first time I missed it they left a number stating to call them back by end of business day and a case No.: Today I answered and kept saying hello and there was no one on the other end of the line.. I am also very confused by the various answers from people who say they have spoke to the IRS and say this is a scam and others who say that it is a totally legit .. I have not received any mail notices, They have called my cell phone which is unlisted and I have no idea how the IRS would've obtained it as it is not in my name, but the message did state my first name but not my last, it was not a pre-recorded message either.. Regardless I am not calling back I will answer the call but will not give any information over the phone due to the mass responses stating this is a scam, the IRS really should put something on their site if this 716 # is an actual legit IRS calling collection agent or not!

Randie 2014-03-21 17:41:58 Unknown
I got a call from IRS, or so it showed on caller ID, they hung up when I answered
harry-the-hat 2014-03-21 17:03:31 Unknown
I also received a call from this number on my CELL PHONE. After reading the various posts on this site, I am "totally" confused!! I don't know why they would call my Cell phone when they have my home "land-line" number available to them. But I don't know who to believe after reading the opposing views of so many! I "DO" owe the IRS, so as a result of that, I am concerned. I don't feel it is in my best interest to call the IRS though, to find out if, indeed, they are trying try to get a hold of me, because past experience, with not only them, but ANY debt collector, has taught me that it throws up a "red flag", so to speak, and re-energizes their attempts at collecting on any past debt.
So I will, at this time, ignore this number and "block" it on my phone so they can no longer get through!
And as noted on other posts on this site, I am very aware that the IRS will ALWAYS send out letters or "notices" of any concerns before making telephone calls, as long as they have your current address on file. And since I am positive they have mine, I will not react to this number, or any other number that I may receive that may "appear" to be from the
IRS ???

716-206-3218 scammer claiming to be IRS. Still at it on 3/21/14.
Phil 2014-03-21 12:27:20 Unknown
This isn't a scam. Google the 800 number. It takes you to the levy dept of the IRS.
