We are actually debt free and this has been an annoying harassment.  Especially when we are not avoiding our bills.

just to add to my note above, the new calls I've started to receive make it sound like they're from the county where litigation is starting, which is why I think they're related to North American Holding's calls. However they sound in no way official. And having dealt with jury duty & traffic tickets, and stuff with city hall for my job, etc, and therefore I'm familiar with the level of professionalism with my county's offices, I see no way these calls are legit. "Please hold for an operator"? No, not legit.

I've received a few voicemails from this number in the last few weeks (I don't answer unknown numbers).... they are looking for my brother, but they are calling my personal cell, I would very much like to know how they got an unlisted cell #! Stated they are North American Holdings and need to verify a discrepancy before sending litigation paperwork to the county we live in. I'm not on any of my brother's accounts nor have we lived together in 5 years, kind of pissed that I'm receiving calls for what I can only assume is related to collection of a debt that I'm not responsible for! I've left the lady 2 return voicemails stating I'm not the person they're trying to reach & to remove my number from their records or it will be considered harrassment.... They haven't responded to my voicemails, simply stopped calling for a week & then start calling again.

I've also started receiving calls from a local number which when I answer gives a recorded greeting stating this is a call for (my brother's name) & to press a number to reach an operator, however after several seconds on hold the calls are disconnected., so I haven't been able to verify if these other calls are real or another layer of their debt collection scheme. has anybody else had something like this happen where they start getting follow up calls from what sounds like another entity?

I tried to google the  company and couldnt find anything after an hour or more of surching. Next my girlfriend ( who i have two kids with) got an email the next day after talking to this person asking for a electronic signature to take out money from her accounts. I told her not to sign anything untill we can figure out who this ckmpany is. They continued to call and said that they have all hr banking info and will take money out regardless of the signature and will sieze all her money. Today september 20,2013 she calls me from work and said that all her money has been taken.

I just received a call from the same person.  I find it funny that the "law firm" is now named differently than it was a year ago.  I informed him that I had not received any mail from him or his office, but if he sent it to me I'd be happy to review it and forward it to my attorny if need be.  He said that he couldn't resend it that they needed the money now.  NO, I'm not giving anyone that I have no proof of my money and/or bank account information.  I've been a victim of identy theft once, it will not happen again.

I just received a call from this number. He now states his name is Chase Connley from some law firm and that he is trying to contact me regarding a lawsuit filed against me in a County I haven't lived in for many years. He claims I have ignored the letters sent to me regarding this matter. Although no letters have ever been sent to my home address is which is public information. This is the second time in the last two years someone has tried to call claiming to be a lawyer or police officer about some bogus lawsuit and that if I just pay them XXX amount of dollars using a pre pay credit card, no check, no money orders and no real credit card # then they will take care of the issue for me. It's all a scam. Some how they got enough of my personal info to see who I owe money to and are using that to scam money from me. If they are able to find that out they should know my current address as I have lived here almost 5 years. Time for a new phone number I guess

Now they have switched their line up....Man referred to himself as CHIEF Connelly? sounded like he said connelly and cassing or something. New york number calling me about a supposed case in Cook county (Chicago!).
A county I have never lived in and never owed money in...
Telling me he has been instructed to contact me and my lawyer for advisement before they go ahead and proceed with legal dealings in Cook county.

Really wish I could change my phone number, but that is not an option as I have lost touch with too many people who probably still have it.

I received a call from this number 716-235-2375 earlier this morning. I don't answer my cell if I do not recognize the number so i let it go to voice mail. The VM that was left was sort of weird, the caller left no name, just stated that it was an attempt to get in touch with someone . I'm not sure who because he also never said who the VM was for, but did say that an attempt at contact had been made through the USPS ( never received a thing)   in regards to a suit that had been filed in a federal court and would now contact my lawyer because apparently they assume everyone has a lawyer on call?? Very odd and I do not plan on ever answering another call from this number.

Actually these people are right on buddy! I am a Seasoned Debt collector with 0 compliance issues ever over 8 years of practice. Even "firms" , "debt collectors" , "IRS". have rules to follow called the FDCPA - In which if you dont know what that means : Fair Debt Collection Practice Act. Everyone to who collect a debt , a) must tell you the call is recorded. B) tell you the mini miranda, C) verify who they are speaking to. D) lying is illegal in this practicing act. E) must not call before or after collection time frames set by the federal government . usually not before 8am and not after 9pm Mon through Sat. This Jason Sobiesky that called me did not follow any of these rules , i let the gentleman know who he is dealing with . he claimed to be a lawyer , but he acted like a debt collector , at one point he told me he has to speak with another person or lawyer to get me approved for a 20% discount on this debt . when in fact he used an address i used more than 10 years ago , which even public record shows my current mailing address along with my state issued lic # . he claimed the county in which i used to live in was sueing for 1900.00 plus dollars if i dont pay 250 dollars. i checked my credit report , i do not have a debt in the amount of this anywhere, nor any judgments against me . not once not ever. So before you make any comments on which you do not know about , keep your mouth shut . if it ended up happening to you , i would hope you would do your own do-diligence before you set up any arrangement's with somebody you dont know.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

I received a call from Jason Sobieski from the firm Sobieski & Adams. Jason said my name was tied to my ex-boyfriend's court case and it would require a possible appearance from me. What the heck? The county he mentioned is not even the county that my ex or I live in. Not legit?

I didnt mean any harm by it. I am no stranger to scam companies. I had foreigners calling me sending fake documents to my work and threatening me and my family. Apologies if I said something wrong. I guess everyone is different or maybe different things were said to you. I guess it just went okay for my particular situation. Just was giving my input. Thanks for playing!

Put the high horse away & read the messages. People are being called by foreign criminals trying to collect on debts they don't owe. People are also being robocalled, in violation of US Law. Go to the grocery store & get a soap box for next Sunday. Otherwise contribute to the site.

This isn't a discussion as to whether or not we should "Pay our bills"--

This is regarding consumers' rights when it comes to the collection of debts.

Thanks for playing.

I received a message from this # 716-235-2375 stating that they would like to know the envolvment that we have with a person that has a case open with Jason at Sobeski & Adams firm before it goes to the county. I have called them back and left a v.m. and no return call. I have not received anything in the mail and honestly, this is very nerve racking considering we don't ever owe money out to anyone (other then our monthly debits). I googled this company and this is what I have found.

I got a call by this number and also from someone named Jason stating that his firm sent me a letter that I ignored and now a law suit is being pursued against me. I called my attorney and she couldn't find any open cases against me and advised that it might be a scam. She told me to look for myself and see if they are registered with Supreme Court as licensed attorneys and they aren't. I google them and I find this. I never received any type of certified letter. I will keep my voicemail just in case. There has got to be better ways to collect debts than this!!
