In Texas: Call the Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner - inform the office of their tactics; they will tell you what your next steps should be. Usually it's a call to the Texas Attorney General to file a complaint against the creditor.

As early as possible it's critical to determine if your collector is domestic or yet another South Asian faker. The former you can sue into submission; the latter tend to be out of reach.

I was told that they were going to press criminal charges for an unpaid payday loan. The state of Texas does not allow debt collectors to threaten callers. what should I do?

He stated that he was calling from an attorney office and that there was a legal matter then was getting mad when I said ok . He never asked me my name and was like this is you but I said I have never spoken with you and I havent he said I can come to your job and present you with a legal papers in this matter.

I teach. The guy put me on a 3-way call and called my superintendent. Then he told me with a last name like Gomez, I just need to go back to where I came from like the rest of them. LOL! I am white, anyway, with a Hispanic husband. This is harassment and discrimination from a debt collector. He also told me and the administrative offices that a legal matter was being filed against me. This is how they expect to collect money? Thank God my admin office understood and just laughed. This debt was consolidated, so I don't even know why they are calling me!!!
