Very good! I can only hope that I may have been of some help.
If more people would follow through on their complaints, there's an outside chance that one day we may have a handle on these frauds. The domestic ones anyway. The foreign ones don't matter. Once the public becomes more aware of the foreign frauds (and the games that they play) they'll all slink away back to the hovels from which they came.
Pass on your knowledge. Educate your friends & family as to what these sad excuses for human beings are trying to pull everyday. Have everyone you know become familiar with their rights under the FDCPA.
Live Well.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

He sounds to me like just another one of the "Buffalo Boys" trying to strut his stuff. They've been playing it coy lately. They know they've been under a lot of scrutiny lately. This one must be getting desperate.
You can see through these idiots very quickly. When they're confronted by an educated target, they'll go off on well-rehearsed lines of BS that have been honed to a fine art by years of use. A lot of them become thoroughly confused when their intended victims aren't compliant. It sometimes surprises them when they're called what they are. Frauds. At these times they'll completely lose their composure & will go in to more threats accompanied by liberal doses of obscenity. They are an embarrassment to "real" people everywhere.
You owe him nothing. Tell him so. Then tell him that all your calls at home & work are now being recorded. Then tell him to put up or shut up. You'll hear a bit more colorful language followed by a click as the fool hangs up.
Research and know your rights under the FDCPA. It's easy. Links are available here on this site or just Google it. Complaints can be made @ FTC.gov. And don't forget to lodge a complaint to your states Atty. Generals office. Once you become an educated consumer you have effectively neutered the fraudulent debt collectors. Do your part to make the "Buffalo Boys"  sing soprano!
Be Safe. Be Aware.

Just yesterday I got a call from my dad saying an attorney named mike davis is trying to find me to serve me papers. He claimed I wrote a bad check to a bank and that a lien is being placed on my car. I paid off my car loan with  a bank certified check 7 months ago and I have a pay off letter and a lien release. I knew this guy was wrong but I decided to contact my former car loan company to make sure there wasnt some kind of mistake. My loan company told me my account is paid and have no connection to this "attorney" This Mike Davis was very mean being aggressive with me right off the bat. His number is out of Buffalo NY. He called me one more time and said he has a second case against me.I called the number early this morning to see if it had a company voicemail and the phone just automically hangs up. I looked up the case number since he told me I would have to appear in court and its not even the correct format. He said hes from national credit agency which is no where on the internet. Finally i put his number in a google search and found this blog. I want to get this guy reported.

Someone from this number has called several times a day for the past few days. He said to have my lawyer contact him or a Sheriff will appear at my door to serve me with papers. he said i have been named as a defendant in a law suit. He also said he was placing a lien on my car. he then proceeded to rattle off my license plate number and the make and model of my car. he called again yesterday and spoke with my husband. My husband asked what this is about. The caller hung up on my husband, waited 30 minutes and then called back to say he didn't like my husbands attitude and now he would also be named as a defendant.
I have not been served with anything, there is nothing in the courts regarding this. It seems like a strong arm tactic meant to intimidate people to either give up personal information or money! I am filing a complaint with the State Attorney!
