I started receiving several phone calls form this number at my job one day.  I was never able to talk with someone, but they left me a message and they faxed a form to my office about garnishing my wages.  The womans name was Mrs. Adams, and she left me a partical case number before my voicemail cut her off.  I've tried several time to call the number back, but it was unsucessful.  I dont understand why they would fax me a garnishment form when i don't even know wht they are calling me about....

Debt Collector
A client of mine recently received a call from C.A.R & Associates. She had retained my services because of threatening collection calls. When I called C.A.R a Michael Stone helped me and was calm, polite and gave me all the information I needed. The debt's were valid and we successfully negotiated a payment amount at a fraction of what was owed.

If you owe money, get a consumer advocate. Some of us work for free. Forget the internet scam artists and the free credit report junk.

Send a letter to teach of the three credit reporting bureaus: Eqifax, Transunion and Experian and ask for a complete copy of your current credit report complete with FICO score.

Then call every creditor on the list and verify the debt and make sure its within its statute of limitations which is in PA is 4 years. Other states vary between 2 to 15 years.

If it is valid and within its time limit then call them and make a deal. MOST places will make a deal for 50% of the original debt. Now, in most cases YOU ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INTEREST AND FEES. If the original debt was for $250 and now they want $5,000. You ONLY have to pay the $250 and then deal down from there.

When you make a deal, pay them with a cashiers check only and send it with guaranteed service that keeps tracking data like UPS or FEDEX. First, get them to send you a certified letter, return receipt requested with the payoff amount and the deal and make sure it says they will remove the debt from your credit report and they will seek NO FURTHER ACTION against you. If it doesn't say that, reject it. Then when you send the check, make sure they give you a receipt. If you send it with tracking, they will give you a receipt with only the tracking number and the check number.

Remember, bank issued cashiers check ONLY! And get paperwork from the bank proving the check.

After they get the check, make sure they send you a letter stating they contacted the credit agencies and had the debt removed. After you get that letter, contact the agencies for verification.

Also, I know some states are picky but record every single solitary minute of every single phone call when dealing with creditors. never accept calls from unknown or blocked numbers. If they call from a blocked number politely say: "For legal verification purposes I cannot speak about business matters from blocked calls. If you wish to speak with me about this issue you must call me from an unblocked number." then hang up - don't argue with them. Or ask for their phone number and call them back.

Also, sometimes if you don't trust the company, have them send you a copy of their business license.

And last but not least, if the feces hit the orbital oscillator - get a lawyer, immediately.   Most times you can deduct the lawyers fees from the debt or even collect it from the collection agency.

They are located not only in Washington DC 202-684-7140 but also in New York    1-716-568-7737 , 5165 broadway avenue, suite 253, Depugh NY 14043. Just got caught up in their web of deception. While i owe a debt, theyc alled a relative and told them that they needed what ever info that had on me, that i was going to be persecuted for check fraud and they were being called in for depositions. After i called them, i found it apparent they were a collection company and not a good one. They did not have my phone number, which the original company had, No bankruptcy info (dont believe) and no address. How convienant. Then they had the nerve to tell me that they did not have to send me any paperwork or serve a judgenment on me to get their money. Well, I'm hopefully one step ahead, here's their fax # 1-202-683-4161. I'm faxing them tomm. with a complaint from the FCC,BBB and FCRA complaints for intimidation and harrassment.
