this is a froud - they claimed to be bank of america asked for social or account number. When I asked them to prove they are BOA, they just hung up.

Recieved a call from this number at about 1:45pm today. Did not pick up, they did not leave a message
klee 2011-06-06 20:55:33 Unknown
This was the number that called as listed on my caller id, they looked for a different person supposdily living here, and said he wanted to change his accounts. and gave a card services phone number for bank of america as the call back number. My recorder gave me all this.
So I called it.
I told them about the call, and they assured me they are card services for bank of america, and did also ask for my account number as well, which I refused to give naturally. (she was looking at it as connected to my number.) but I haven't used it in years.
They may actually be card services. And it could have just been dialed wrong.
I don't kow.
Truth Hurts 2011-06-06 20:55:33 Unknown
Not likely. The message would have identified themselves as such. Not just "Card Services."
Unless you are an idiot who like to give away your credit card numbers and social security number, don't bother answering or calling back.
EJACKSON 2011-06-06 20:55:33 Unknown
Got a call from Card Services and she asked me for my personal information. She said they have to verify that I am who I say I am. I do owe on a credit card to Bank of America but do not feel comfortable giving info out when you called me! She gave me a toll free # and told me to call back. This phone # is not a published # with Bank of America and therefore sounds like a scam. I will call the # on my bill!

No, their area code is 717, PA. The 716 area is western NY area....and is most likely, asscoiated with some kind of collection endeavor by BoA.

Unknown caller
Glen 2011-06-06 20:55:33 Unknown
Someone from this number has been calling me all day.
Based on the comments here, I will not answer.
Kat 2011-06-06 20:55:33 Unknown
I too am all the sudden getting these calls. From another website with reports of scams and calls from this number I found this:
"Tracing the calls to the companies is difficult. The calls often come from telemarketing centers located overseas. Also, the companies often spoof their caller ID information to display someone’s else’s real number."
I do not and have NEVER had an account with Bank of America.
It's a SCAM folks. Your bank would NOT ask YOU for personal information.
Your bank would already have that info. Think about it!

They call me at home twice a day when I'm at work and never leave a message.
andrew 2011-06-06 20:55:33 Unknown
My wife and I both have had accounts with BofA and if this number was truly BofA they would not just call once and not leave message, BofA calls and calls and calls you(they call until you pick up your phone) and they always leave a message asking you to call them back and BofA does not ask for your info because they have your info, BofA just ask, "is this (insert your name)"

I get calls from this number almost everyday and they never answer when I pick up. This is getting extremely annoying. What can we do to stop this?

Uhh... no. This number calls my husband's cell repeatedly and he doesn't even have a Bank of America account.
Diana Brockway 2010-12-15 18:04:35 Unknown
This number was accessed by *69. They are calling a business and hanging up. Very bothersome.
dave 2010-12-03 20:35:53 Unknown
possibly, but why no effing message!?!?!? I know this is BOA and I have 4 accounts with them. The part that pisses me off is they are all current and none are over the credit limit. So why not learn to leave a damn message? A fine company would at least know how to use voicemail.

Some of you seem so worked up about these calls. Either block the number or ignore it. There is no boogey man out there trying to get you. Scared? Why are you scared if you know what it is from this thread? It is either a phishing scam, in which case you aren't answering so it doesn't matter, or it is Bank of America whom I have done business with for 20+ years. That is how I got to this web-site, because my parents live in Buffalo and they have not called from this number. It is a number that is somehow associated with Bank of America. I would guess, and put 5:1 on it, that it is a collection agency calling for many companies, especially BofA and that's why they don't know anything when you call them back because they have to look you up SOMEHOW, possibly give them your telephone number and I'll bet: BINGO. It will be legit. Do not worry. There is nothing to be scared of.
HERE IS WHAT I DON'T HEAR: I'M WORRIED THAT BANK OF AMERICA IS TRYING TO GET AHOLD OF ME BECAUSE THERE IS SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY ON MY ACCOUNT AND THEY ARE PROVIDING A SERVICE TO ME SO I DON'T GET SCAMMED WITH IDENTITY THEFT, ETC. Give them a break. they are a fine company.
