We are a survey research department here at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. We do many different studies pertaining to people's opinions about public health issues. We appreciate people's input and opinions and we do pay participants for their time with many of the studies. This is legitimate scientific research.
A myth about survey research is that it pertains to the 'Do Not Call' list. This list does not apply to us because we're not selling anything or asking for money. We're just asking for opinions and, for some surveys, paying you for your time and participation. Also, the numbers we call are created through random digit dialing. We don't know who we're calling initially.
If you are receiving calls from this number, please give us a call back and allow us tell you about the research we are conducting. Your opinions contribute to important health related decisions that are made by your public officials.

The post above (supposedly from Roswell) sounds like BS to me. They have "randomly" dialed my number twice this week. They left a voice mail on Tuesday offering $10 to participate in a phone survey. I am not interested and didn't call back. Verizon does not offer a way to block unwanted callers from a mobile number. Since I have to pay for my phone time, I don't appreciate repeated, unwanted calls.

Just received a call on my cell phone from this number 716-845-7748. She said she was from Roswell Park Cancer Research and wanted a few minutes of my time to do a survery - they are not soliciting anything! Yeah, right!! She asked me if it was a cell phone, and I said yes, how did you get this number. She mumbled something that it was from a National Survey list. I asked her to remove my number from their list . . . . let's see if I get more calls.

It was a survey on smoking in and near rentals, rental building smoking policies and the like. They claim they are going to send me a $10 check for taking the survey. Took 25 minutes. I wasn't busy so I did it. All they asked for ID info was name and address for mailing the check, and of course household income range and ages of household members did come up during the demographic stuff.

Got a call from them to do their survey on tobacco, when they told me about money for participating I assumed it would be an attempt to ask for financial info so they could do fraud. What they asked me was if I was driving, how many people answer this phone, if it is a cell phone or a landline, and then if I live in residence.... After those few questions, the lady then said "thank you and have a great day". Ok....? You dont know who I am or where I live, but you have limited information about my phone now, and after reading other comments I guess their real purpose is to spam people after they find a real number. Although the real reason they are spamming is still a question... The number originates from Buffalo, NY.

This number called me with a message from Roswell Park Cancer Center in Buffalo NY doing a survey. Will get $10.00 to complete survey. Number they say to call back is 1-855-305-7748.
It's unbelievable that cell phones now get these kind of calls.

These are nothing merely of an attempt to do research for the congressional health package just passed buy the supreme court. Testing waters for consumer thoughts. Just an opinion. 20 numbers to scare consumers. Why don't they just use the U.S. Dept. of Health information. You have all the information in front of public view. Hope the law just passed covers all things A to Z. Just a thought.

Received several calls from this number in the last few months. Finally picked up this call. They wanted to know if this was my cell phone. I mentioned that this was a landline and they immediately hung up. This seems really fishy. Pls. do not provide any information about yourself to them. I wonder how they get a hold of pulbic home and cell/phone numbers. How are they legally using these numbers for survey calls?

how do we get off the calling list?
| elecktriksmile 2012-06-11 21:46:55 Survey |
seriously, just stop calling. I feel like every time I turn around the phone is ringing and I have new voicemails stacking up. I would have been a willing participant had the number only called once but I get called multiple times a day and it is just not worth it anymore.

As Kathleen stated above - this is a scam. They offered $20 to complete their survey. I live in VA so why would they be calling. Do not give these people your info!

It is very interesting that this phone number is connected to a facility in Buffalo NY. When they first called my husband, they would only identify themselves as the "Florida Department of Health," doing a research survey. They told him that he would get $20 for completing a survey, although they gave no particulars (they also asked for the same information as the first commenter described). My husband (an attorney) was suspicious about this, and told them that he was not interested and would not answer a survey. He had only given his name
A few weeks ago they called my husband again. He asked them why a Florida health department wanted to include Oregon residents. They didn't give him an explanation, or any other information about the supposed research project, besides it being an opinion poll "about cancer." He again told him that he would not participate.
This evening they called AGAIN, again identifying themselves as "the Florida Department of Health." The woman said that they were following up on his agreement to take the survey! He became angry and told them he had told them twice already that he was not interested, and not to call again. They dangled the $20 as an incentive, not accepting his refusal. He then stated very clearly that he would not talk to them and hung up, then immediately dialed *69. I Googled the phone number, and this site came up.
I don't believe the previous comment. It did not explicitly state that the Roswell institute is conducting the survey, but only implied it. The statement was also very vague, and did not provide a means for verification ( for example, contact information for the project leader, a project website, etc.).

That's bull s*** you don't know who you're calling. You buy your lists of randomly generated numbers to help weed out all the potential disconnected numbers and businesses. Your interviewers also leave very bad messages. You also misrepresent yourself as being the Florida Dept of Health and make ME confirm that you aren't.
