Received many calls from this number all claiming to be able to give me a discount on my electric bill due to deregulation.  Got another call today, this time from 845 776 3553 and was able to verify this is a scam trying to find out my electric account number.

This number calls, then hangs up without leaving a message. When trying to call it back, Verizon allows such crank callers to use a pre-recorded message, "The number you called is not in service."

We all know unethical sellers and solicitors will use any means they can, so the real question is, why does Verizon and Washington promote such behavior, by letting them call out and providing them a means of remaining unidentified?
