I've been receiving text messages from this number for a while with the same information to call this number back. One day there were like forty (40) contiguous messages, like an attack, until i reply to STOP. Obviusly a scam type message. Why there is no action from the phone company, the government, the DoNotCall registry, anybody to put the scammers on control, take out their license or put them on jail?

scam from this number

Same here. I went to Verizon and asked what could be done about this and who could it be reported to, but they said that since the 917-868-4337 number is not actually the phone number this came from, they could not do anything abouot it. They did offer to block anonymous calls....for an additional $4.95 per month !!!!! I thought they should be able to do something about the 718 number, but Verizon was not interested.

got a text from 917-376-2196 with a suntrust FDHL alert. said to call 718-715-1670, same as a lot of the above posters. used to have suntrust so was mildly curious... glad to have confirmation that it's fake.

Got the same exact text message on my personal cell phone also during past few weeks have got the exact ame message on my work (company) cell phone. Just ignored it because I do not and never ever had a Suntrust Account of any type. I'm pretty sure the scammer is doing mass texting looking for that one big sucker. Best advice.... even though it's a pain in the butt, just ignor it.

Oh my God! I guess that is true because I am on Verizon. I will be calling them right now
Ran 2012-02-29 17:25:31 Unknown
I mean unverifiable. Sorry
ran 2012-02-29 17:23:19 Unknown
Just received the same message about an hour ago. I did not called because anything that is vertifyable is not normal

Another one, yes Verizon, yes 917, yes text message the same...
Lee 2012-02-29 17:09:04 SMS
Got the same message a few minutes after my wife got it, originating from 2 different 917 numbers but with the same call back. Apparently a sequential dialing robo-spammer targeting all numbers in an exchange, in this case mostly Verizon phones. Just hoping for one person to panic and do the wrong thing so they can hit their accounts.
We definitely need to report this to the phone company.

Spoke to a Verizon Wireless rep. She informed me that it is a HUGE ring that the FTC is currently in the process of investigating and stopping. Do not reply to the message and do not call the number that is provided to you.

I just received it too. I do use Verizon as well.
Marie 2012-02-29 16:50:20 Unknown

MJ 2012-02-29 16:47:35 Unknown
`I just got the same thing a few minutes ago on my cell #. No way that I will call.
Karey 2012-02-29 16:45:30 Unknown
Is everyone's phone with Verizon? If so we need to report it to Verizon so people won't get charged for the texts or calls.

Received a text message from 917-488-3724 to call 718-715-1670.
Message Body:
[Unverified-Sender]
(9174883724) (S)(U)(N)_(T)(R)(U)(S)(T) DYLN alert 373472.
Please call 718-7151670
I called the number from a landline just to test.
Robo-response: "Hello. Thank you for calling SunTrust Bank. We regret to inform you that your debit card has been locked. To reactivate your card please press 1 now. To leave, please press 2".
Definitely some sort of SCAM. I have never used SunTrust Bank.

I just got the same thing, it seems like some kind of mass phishing scam text. I guess it's worth it to the criminals if they can find just one idiot that buys into it, but it sure is annoying.

They may be registered in India but they are New York area codes and are patched in NY.

My husband and I both just got the text. Text from 917-744-3857 to call this number for SunTrust. I called it out of curiosity and it says your debit card has been suspended. Press 1 to continue or 2 to end call. So I pressed 1: it said to enter your 16 digit card #. It's a scam to get people's card#'s. We don't have an account with SunTrust.

I received a test message on my cell (Android with Verizon) a few minutes ago. Text came from 917-927-8918, requesting that I call 718-715-1670. The text message identified the sender as Sun Trust. Assuming that is the bank by the same name, I do not, and never have done business with them.
The 917 numbers are registered in India. I don't think it would be beneficial to return the message or to answer it, as it could wind up costing you a fortune in LD junk fees. Just delete.
Oh, BTW, my cell # is known to only family members, none of whom reside in India or work for Sun Trust.
