Ask them to issue your arrest warrant and and press charges against you. It would be foolish to think they guys are sitting at that number in New Your etc. They have probably got VOIP account and making calls from Indian or Pakistan, harassing people into providing credit cards and other financial information. They cannot be caught unless their call is traced all the way back or ask police to identify the phone company which has issues that number and cancel. However, they will get another number and do the same. These people are probably scamming $1000s from innocent people. Dont be afraid of them and block their number. Shout back if they shout.

Thanks

My wife  too got a similar call from Jay Williams at my residence in my name.  She got nervous and called me at my office number.

I had  heard about such scam artists and was not perturbed.

I in fact called the number and threatened the fellow receieving the call  with dire consequences if they ever dared to call up my home number again.

I will complain to FTC and my local police if the call comes again

Got a v-mail from an "Officer Jay Williams" from the "Crime Investigation Department" (also an Indian accent).  I was to call back in regards to 3 criminal offenses under investigation, lest I get arrested.  I've left a complaint with the FTC, and encourage everyone to take the 2min to do the same if you have been so harassed.  This type of call clearly violates law on so many levels, and it should not simply be shrugged off by victims.  (BTW, unlike others, I have no outstanding debts or loans that these people could be calling on behalf of either.)

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Yes Deb, the insect known as the 'Needle-D****d Indian Cockroach' is an obstinate little critter. They can be very irratating. They're like a rash, but not nearly as dangerous. Just let your friends, family and co-workers know that you're suffering from an infestation of these vermin. Warn everyone you know that careless behavior on the internet can bring an influx of these disease-ridden organisms. To rid yourself of these pests you can simply ignore them or use the time honored home remedy of laughing like hell at them. Insults work well too. Once the little beasties know that you're on to them they're prone too life-threatening conniption fits, hysteria, fits and bouts of unitelligible gibberish. The accompanying high blood pressure can often lead to the blessed death of the offensive creature.
Good luck to you Deb in your battle against this insignificant foe. Given time perhaps someone will come up with a spray to combat this problem. 'Til then we'll just have to accept them for what they are; nothing more than foul compost material.

This person with very thick Indian accent calling himself Officer Johnson left a voicemail msg saying there were 3 criminal charges against me and that my ss# was being investigated. I would be arrested at my job. No name of the person or company that is supposedly sueing me. Tried calling the number but only got a fast busy signal. Ever since I went online to see about a payday loan,I've been getting all kinds of scam calls. So frustrating!

Prank Call
I found a message on my answering machine from purportedly this number from an "Officer Mike Johnson" of the "Crime Investigation Department." He asked for a call back from me or my attorney in this "sensitive matter" of his department filing three criminal charges against me in a matter of "civil fraud" after a case had been filed against me. This guy had a pronounced Indian accent (I'd know it anywhere being of Indian origin myself and am furious about these types giving our community a bad name) and was obviously a fraud.

I was suspicious that this could be a call re-routing scam where they could charge heavy fees through phone billing to connect to some offshore location, so I called this number back a few times using Skype. Each time the call would be dropped after a ring or two.

I have a business and someone who calls himself Officer Edward J. Smith keeps calling asking for one of my employees. He has threatened me by saying "if you don't contact this person and have them call me back in 10 minutes I will continue to call you all day" I have told him I know it is a scam he is doing and that I will contact the police department and let them know he is impersonating a police officer. I also told him I would contact the FBI. neither comment made any difference. He continued to harass me. I called the FBI and no one answered the phone. I called my police department and filed a complaint but I was told they could not do anything because this person is out of state. I called the phone company and was told they could not do anything either. I guess no one is interested in putting a stop to harassing phone calls and illegal scams.

This sounds like extortion dressed as debt collection. The agents' horrid threats are empty and their conduct is illegal. As early as possible it's critical to determine if your collector is domestic or yet another South Asian faker. The former you can sue into submission; the latter tend to be out of reach.

My notes from October 2011 on payday loan and "hot check" collectors are linked below.

I received several phone calls from this individual who claims he is officer johnson or officer jones with very thick indian accents. He left a threatening voicemail saying I needed to call him ASAP before I had legal charges pressed against me. Basically these individuals are scam artists. Do not be frightened by their allegations on you they are trying to get your personal information. I started calling these individuals back and requesting for them to give me their badge numbers, location, state and county information. They do not like when they confront them regarding information but they're quick to frighten you and tell you that you will be arrested at your work place and be embarrassed. One time I called and asked for their badge number and thy said 6687WWWTF and said "what the f***". It is unfortunate these individuals cannot get in trouble and are taking advantage for innocent vulnerable people!!!! Do NOT be a victim of this SCAM!!!
