Same thing happend to me.  And the funny thing is that I know all of the local PD!  Im in the process of letting them know that this scam is using their name to make money!  Its really sad when you have loved ones that are police and you know that someone is using that to tug at your heartstrings to get your money or identity!!

This HAS to be a scam!  Got a call from the same number this morning.  Guy started out reminding me to buckle up and dont drink and drive.  He then was asking for donations for the Hayden PD for bulletproof vests.  He was VERY persistant until I said that my husband is a trooper for the state patrol (which is true) and that we know all of the officers at the Hayden PD.  And guess what??  He hung up!  Im in the process of contacting the PD about this so they have a heads-up.  How low can people go???  Disscusting!

I just got a call from this number on 02-05-2009. It was shown as a local call. It is not a local call.it is an out of area long distant call. aaaaaaado not talk to these people or answer any questions. They are a idenity thieft group trying to get your personal information. Hang up and "DO NOT TAKL TO THEM"! This is a scam!!!

Asked for someone that had my number over a year ago. I said they do not live here and he then said they would call back. Then it sounded like he was in a conversation with someone else so I said F@^$%@ you and hung up.

I called the number back and see it goes to a non-profit organization. You can then press 1 and it will ask for you to leave your number for a call back...I entered their own number. Let them waste a minutes calling themselves.

August 6th 5:33pm Received a call to Westminster CO  303 area. I also was called by this strange number and the caller ID machine had no additional info. They left no voice message. Be careful!

Just got the call today 8-6-2008. They did not leave a message. Caller ID says "Local Call". I live in Northern Colorado.

i just got a call from this number... just said "local call" on my caller id too (even though its not local).

got I call yesterday evening and another this morning from this number. It just says local, but is long distance.  Didn't answer, but no message left either time.

I called the number back (pre-pending a *67 so as to invoke a per-call caller ID block from my end). I got an automated attendant that claims to be a fund raising activity that is supposedly working on behalf of multiple unidentified charities. The automated attendant prompt never identifies the company name. It asks that you enter your phone number and you will be connected to the appropriate agent.

Received two calls today from this number.  One at 9:09am and the other at 12:47pm.  No message.  Caller ID listed as Local Call even though it is not local.

Have also rec'd phone calls from this number...also as Local Call, even though its a long distance number. No message was ever left on machine. Latest calls came around July 31st.

I got  a call from this number on july 24, 2008 at 10 am.

Just so you know if they are a charity or calling on behalf of a charity (or at least claiming to) the DNC list will not stop them from calling.  Charities are allowed to call anyone regardless if they are on the DNC list or not.  Also, anyone that has a relationship with you, which can be a third party that is associated with any business you have done or do business with, such as a department store, credit card company etc.

Also the reason they put "local call" in the CID is because a lot of people (like me) use their phone company's service to block any unidentified calls.  Unidentified calls are those that do not have a name at all in thier CID, and so they'd never get through to us.  This is how they get around that to make sure they can annoy ..er.. I mean contact ;) the most people.

Internet searches have only provided me with one possible clue who they are and how to contact them. The "Fundraising Information Center" is listed as an exhibitor on a .pdf brochure distributed by the Dallas/Ft.
