I have to laugh at the names these scammers use.  Maybe someone should tell him to take the "road not taken" and stop scamming people!

Same exact message as everyone else, except the name is now Robert Frost frostmail0@gmail.com

This was my tongue in cheek response:

"Sure I will go ahead and send you the info. First would you mind talking to my friend though? He's a police officer. I just want to make sure this isn't a scam. I will need your phone number. Thanks!

I look forward to hearing back from you!"

Let's keep up the work of posting this stuff so that no one falls for it.

Sorry for the late response. Please I don't have time to come have a look cause of my Job transfer, I'll take care of that by engaging the services of a mover hence I'll be sending a check to cover the cost and it'll be delivered via United Parcel Service, so I'll need you to provide me with the following information below to facilitate the mailing of the check, be aware that UPS does not deliver to P.O box addresses..

1.Your full name
2.Your mailing address be it residential or office
3.Your cellphone number.
4.Final Price

I'll have my mover come over for the pick up as soon as you have cashed the check. I'll appreciate it if you take down the ad from CL so as to be rest assured that I'm in hold of the item, I hope to read from you shortly. Best Regards.

same email as you've all been getting from Grant Edwards.  I was a little thrown by the request for personal information but then I got the email about accidentally writing the check for $2000 instead of $80, plus $50 for my trouble, and I knew he was fake.

I received the same e-mail as everyone else, but was immediately alarmed when they asked for person information. There were many minor red flags in the e-mail, but that was the biggest. I feel an obligation to report what I experienced, and hope others learn how to avoid this scam artist. This is all in relation to a $30 dollar item I had posted on Craigslist. Date of e-mail's are 8/29/12

Used, but in perfect working condition. I'll even double check one more time if we decide to make the sale final.

Just got an email from him...I usually google peoples names with craigslist together in a google search to see who I am dealing with, or if it's someone local I put them into facebook to see who I might be dealing with since I am young and female and weary of meeting strangers.
The email address this idiot used for me is ruthrobinson890@gmail.com which is part of the reason I was suspicious since the name Seth Grant didn't match the email of Ruth Robinson. I replied because I thought it was a general interest in what I am selling since they asked if it was in good condition, but I have yet to get a reply. If I do I am telling them cash and local pick up only.

Below is the email I got from Seth today about my item on Craigslist.
So I "googled" a little too late as he has my home address now.
I just received the confirmation from my Secretary that the payment has been issued and mailed out to you using USPS priority mail, hopefully will be delivered to your address within 3-5days, but to my greatest surprise the check was issued out in the sum of $2500 instead of the actual cost of my purchase. She claimed that I requested for that amount to be issued out to you but am very sure I only made a request for just the cost of my purchase. I know this a terrible mistake and I was just informed about this few moment ago.

Please once the check is delivered, kindly take it to your Bank and have it deposited into your account for 24hours to clear, when it clears the next day you can have the remaining balance sent to my mover via Western Union after deducting the cost of the purchase as I've already planned in using the excess funds to offset his previous bills so that he can come over for the pick up ASAP. I will need your response assuring me that I can trust you to handle this appropriately as requested. I'm very sorry for the inconveniences and I have decided to add $50 to cover the cost of your running around to the Bank and Western Union, thank you for the understanding and hope to read from you shortly. Seth.

Got this same "I am deaf" email. Different name though.

Copy:

Hello,

This is Jennifer  thanks for getting back to me I want to buy this but the only way i can pay you is via a Bank Certified Check that i would mail to you using the FedEx overnight delivery,

To make sure that everything goes smoothly i would wait for the check to clear before the pickup is done, I would be responsible for the pickup and it would be done by the movers and their payment would be included in the check i mail to you and this is all due to my disability (am deaf) and it makes it hard for me deal with this and it makes the transaction better and quicker.

I know you were not expecting this and I would have loved to come for the viewing but i cant I really want it and am offering an extra $50 for you to delete the posting to show i want it as i am just settling into my new house i want good deals to furnish the apartment i stay in.

if you are okay with this please send me extra pictures and get back to me with the following

Your Full name
Your Physical address (as FedEx does not deliver to P.oboxes)

I await your response . thank you and stay blessed

Jennifer Thompson

Hope this helps keep anyone from being scammed....

Patty,

If the check is for more than the amount you asked, and I am 99.9% certain it will be, then no one will come to pick up the merchandise.  Instead, they will have an explanation for the delay in the pickup, and the mistake in the amount of the check.  They will ask you to deposit the check and send them the difference.  After you send them the difference, the check will eventually bounce.  The reason for the "someone will pick it up right after you get the payment" part is to make you feel like you have to deposit the check right away.  Scammers know that they should never let a mark have time to think about things.

If you feel worried, speak with the police.  I am sure they would love the chance to speak with this guy in person if he shows up.

If you want to refuse the delivery, that is fine, but I can't see any particular need to do so.  Just turn the check over to the police.  I imagine they have a collection of them by now.

I also fell for it too. Refuse delivery from whichever company they delivered it through, FED EX/UPS. As long as you dont sign for it they wont know where you live, they would think the address you gave was fake.

Just so everyone knows - this guy is still at it, and he's changed his email address to e.grant1001@gmail.com

I got the email asking for address, I sent it to him; then a few days later I got the one saying that his "assistant" had sent too much money... and I told him no thanks.

Luckily I do regular credit checks, so if this creeper tries anything, I'll know about it.

I'm headed to the local Internet crimes office tomorrow to give them everything I have from this guy.

...guess I won't be selling my item after all...

Thank you for the response, I will be sending a Certified Draft which is generally acceptable to cover the cost  as am completely interested. I will need the details below of whom & where to mail the payment;

1.Name to be on the check
2.Home or office address
3.Cellphone number

Please note FedEx do not deliver to P.O Box. However, my mover will pick up the item right after the payment as been delivered. Kindly delete the posting as am committed to buying it. I recently move here on a job transfer and it's a great buy. Here is my relay # (832)390-0679  am hearing  impaired and will receive your phone messages via email. Hope to read from you shortly.
