Asked for email and home address so he could send a payment followed by a friend of his picking it up using DHL. Stated he was military, etc. I love our troops, but I steer away from anyone stating they are military when it comes to selling online, unless they are local. I have been nearly scammed every time I sell something by some one stating to be military. Glad my intuition was right about this guy. Texted from (970) 773-9497

Just had the same thing regarding a post I have on Craigslist (Of a wood stove).
This guy claims his name in Andres and he is in the Florida Air National Guard.
When I asked him how I could be sure it was a legitimate deal, he sent me a picture of a solider and a dog.
A picture I'm almost positive I have seen tons of people repost/share/like on Facebook.
This close to the holidays, please beware of the scam artists everywhere.
The number I was contacted from is 970-773-9497
The return that the picture was sent from is afrey555@textnow.me

I had a bedroom set on craigslist and Andres Frey tried to scam me through paypal!
| Betty 2013-11-29 04:54:51 SMS |
Received email from Andres Frey in response to sectional I had posted for sale on craigslist. Same questions: why do you wanna sell it? Where are you located? The second question is what made me suspicious enough to google the name and, luckily, I found these previous postings. This person stated that it was "ok to text [him] at ___-___-7333 (can't remember the full number because I deleted the dumped trash but it ended in 7333)

Thank you!

I received a message from this number insinuating they're with the military & wanted to purchase my item but could only pay with PayPal. After further questioning, they couldn't work out any other agreement with me & were insulted when I questioned if they were really with the military. I am a Veteran and do not appreciate posers.

For those of you posting on CL if you use the option available on the landing page of a post you're making (or you can also edit a post you've already made), choose the option to have NO email replies to your post you will cut down all of the spamscammers you're getting and also break up any phone numbers you post (e.g. 310.1-55.5>one2one2, or 55.5.12.12 or some variation). I think that some scammers may be using bots or some sort of software to search through postings for properly formatted phone numbers (e.g. 101-555-1212 ). It may be the format of the number or the simple fact that those properly formatted show up as hyper-links.
I don't trust ebay at all. It's to easy to have something you've sold disputed after you've already shipped it and have to go thru those kind of nightmares where you end up losing the item and the money. I've heard a lot of people talking about those type of problems where ebay is concerned. Not to mention that some hackers are so good that a simple exchange of emails or chats or whatever can possibly be used to drop malware packed with all sorts of info stealing tools in them and pilfer your personal info.
I don't think it's a good idea to give unimaginative thieves ideas or actionable intel simply by telling them what they're doing wrong or how you knew they were trying to scam you either (no offense intended). Simply stating that something is a scam or a possible scam should suffice in this type of forum.
Thanks for reading.

I received a text message from this number for a living room set I have on Craigslist. The ad has the ability to find my location via, I guess, Google maps, but the message asked me "why do you wanna sell it? Where are you?" Good to know it's a fake.
