I then when on Google and put in the number and found the number has been reported as a scam in the past. I hope all people who get a call from this number, or any other number they don't know the caller ID name or number Google it.

Just received a phone call from FRAT ORD POLICE # 720 452 5571, a Colorado number.  My wife answered the phone and they asked if the ladie of the house was available.  My wife asked " May I ask who is calling?" and they promptly said we will call back later and hung up. Im leary of this since two of my neighbors homes were broken into a day ago.  Be careful of people calling to scope out your house to see if your home or not.

I am here in Colorado and also getting these calls frequently.  Since the caller hangs up immediately when I start to remind him I am on a 'do not call' list, I found the Colorado Fraternal Order of Police website and found a number to call to report issues.  The number is 303-426-1733.  The lady who I spoke with (quite nice and understanding) is going to call the organization that handles these solicitations on my behalf.  Irony is - the company calling is from Utah called "Corporations for Character" - they are hired on behalf of the FOP to solicit donations.

I forgot to add in my posting that I have a unlisted listed number. So who ever it was that called me didn't know WHO they were calling. It had to be some auto dialing thing.

I just got a call from this number; 720-452-5571 the caller ID said, FRAT ORD POLICE. I did a reverse lookup on the number and it said;

>720-452-5571
>Peerless Network landline from Denver, CO
>Not spam
>This number has not been associated with any spam activity

I don't pickup on calls from anybody I don't know and this caller didn't leave a message either. Guess I'll try calling them back since I have unlimited long distance on my phone.
As for you others who keep getting calls from telemarketing if you have your number put on a no call list then by law they can no longer call you. And there is a time limit that they can not call before a certain time or after a certain time. My number has been on the do not call list for several years. I don't know what number it is that you have to call to get it but you should be able to find it with a little searching. It might also be different for different states. I'm in Colorado so if you are in a different state they probably have different laws for it.

Something to keep in mind about all these continuing bothersome calls for surveys, so called charities and so called charity pickups despite asking them to remove you from their list:

Call centers have sprung up in my town that make use of the survey and the charity loophole around the do not call list; they have been a headache for law enforcement, emergency services, neighboring businesses and residential areas.  When I ask any patrolling officer in town about these call centers, they are quick to state their frustrations about the criminal activity that some of these call centers have brought into the area. Several law enforcement agencies regularly visit some of these call centers looking for warrant arrests etc.  I have heard from sources including from frustrated employees that work for these call centers complaining about the drug activity, vandalism of cars and neighboring businesses, break-ins and theft, drinking while on the job, smoke breaks are actually marijuana breaks, drunk driving, very dangerous driving, tons of tossed out litter of empty liquor containers, trash, food etc.  I?ve even heard that the mangers are also involved in criminal activities and have even preyed on their legitimate employees who are simply trying to eek out a living on horrible wages.  Also the operators are untrained in a very high turn around, poorly managed and dysfunctional work environment.

Also realize this when you call a companies? customer service line and get horrible service from the call center that?s been hired by the company.  One time while on a call with our bank?s customer service, the operator was so loopy that it required ending the call and calling again to try and get someone else to help, think about that when you call a companies? customer service and the conversation gets odd, off the wall and obtuse ? you may be talking to an operator that?s drunk or on something.  After 6 months of getting a different and wrong answer to our ongoing problem each time we called our bank?s call center, we gave up and closed the account.

With so little police left in our town due to cutbacks, they can?t always respond to vandalism and break-ins when it?s witnessed as they have their plate full responding to the major emergencies, this allows the criminal activity free reign, the neighborhood becomes the hood.  Some insurance companies require proof of private security patrols before they will honor a claim due to vandalism or theft leaving the neighboring businesses off guard and uncovered.  These businesses also have the added cost to hire private security, install security systems/monitoring, upgrade lighting etc.  Then there are the dangers and headaches to the nearby businesses employees such as their cars being vandalized or broken into.  Some businesses simply give in, pickup and move out of town.

One of my neighbors owns a call center and he requires that his operators are bonded, but I guess there?s no laws requiring this ? there should be.  Right now in my town it seems like anybody can start up a call center and hire questionable labor for cheap without much regulation.

I my efforts the past several years to try and get something done, I am most struck by the fact that there?s no real help, everyone is more worried about being sued than dealing with the obvious problem - you are on your own while the town is taken over by the crime these call centers bring into the neighborhoods....

Same thing is happening to me. I am unlisted and on the DO NOT CALL list. What really bothers me is, after filing a long on-line complaint on the FTC complaint website and hitting "submit" you get a message that says the FTC really doesn't investigate any individual complaint, they just add it to their database.
What's a law abiding citizen to to?

There is no FRAT ORD in Colorado but 720 is a Colorado Area Code.

In my opinion the FTC is completely useless and toothless.

This number calls us many times a year.  They always ask to speak with my wife (she has a Spanish surname - she kept her maiden name after we married).  They imply that if we don't want to be harrassed by police, that we should send them $.  They never call and ask for me although both of us are listed in the phone book with our respective last names.  This seems like blatant racial profiling, harrassment and bullying.  I have asked them to take us off of their calling list, but they persist.  If this is happening to you, please report it.  This type of harrassment must stop.  They call late at night, and are relentless.

This number calls us several times per year asking for money.  The caller I.D. is "Frat Ord Police".  They demand to speak to my wife (who has a Spanish surname - she retained her maiden name after we married).  They imply that if we don't want to be harrassed by police, we should send them $.  This seems to us to be blatant racial profiling and harrassment.  If this has happened to you, please leave a complaint about this number.  They never call and ask for me (my last name is a common, European decendent name). Both my wife and I are listed in the phone book, with our respective last names. They call late at night, and are very demanding and persistent.

I had the same caller ID, but the caller mentioned my mom's name and he wanted to talk to her. I told him she could not speak English and what he wanted from her, but he just said goodbye and hung up.

Called ID says Police Benevolent Association.  These are almost always paid solicitors who work on a very high commission with very little money going to the police benevolent associations. Still they tend to be effective because people infer that if they don't contribute they'll be targeted for police harassment, or if they do pay they'll be get some kind of protection.

That assumes they are not outright scams, or aren't collecting for union funds to support liberal Democrat causes.  Good article about such calls here: http://www.slate.com/articles/life/flatfoot/2002/04/police_badger.html
