Debt Collector
I was contacted By Portfolio Consulting Group at this number. I was told I would be served with papers and have to go to court if I didnt set up a payment plan. Stupid me did that and had them take payments out of a pre paid card. My paper work came back with a paper I had to sign for the payment arrangement I had made it was paid off on 11/29/13 never recived a letter saying it was paid after I repeatedly called and asked for one. Little did I know I was being scammed. My paper work also has a Docket number supposedly giving by the court. Is there anything I can do to get money back or report this. Can I go to Court House and see what this Docket number is for. I am out 2155.18. JUST GREAT.

This place is a collection agency not an arbitration form or law firm. This place is located in buffalo, ny  on Seneca st. They have another office down the street under a different name but same two owners its called 4 star resolution sometimes they add arbitration on the end. Their are also two more buildings in different parts of Cheektowaga, ny also under different names. They use every illegal tacticthere is they can not sue u or it would have been done long ago. Portfolio consulting group is the worst they tell the employees to use a different name and voice and say that they're fromnational curries and will be serving u at home or your work, then u call in and they give u a different name. All B***S***. None of the collector's use their real names. So b warned ur getting ripped off big timeand most of the time the statue of limitations is up. Record all calls and u don't have to tell them and don't tell them that way u can catch them breaking the law and get paid every time they do it.

i received a call from 720-588-9868, same address same suite saying I owed a debt and they were going to serve me. Set up a payment plan just to realize I paid this debt off last year! When I call they never answer with the name of the company and put me with a Dave Simmons, which by the way said his name wrong at one time. I closed my account before they had a chance to take any funds out. I had proof the debt was paid for and there trying to tell me the other company has to fax it or theirs nothing they can do! Well I did something..closed that account!

I just received a call from these jokers (Central Portfolio Consulting).  When answering the phone the caller started by stating my name, the last four of my social and my current address.  They asked me to confirm is it was me and I told them that I wouldn't because I didn't know who they were.  After persistently asking them to confirm who they were they hung the phone.  Effin phonies.  I then called the number back and the same person answered the phone and asked them to slowly state the name of the company.  After I got the full name I asked them exactly what they do and the jokers hung up again.  I have debt but have direct contact with the companies I owe money to, but it is disturbing that they have the last four of my social and my address.  Don't give these idiots jack!!!!

I got the same phone call and I actually fell for it. The caller told me I had to pay the amount by the end of the month if not they were going to put a lien on my check or hold my funds from the bank I will admit I was scared so I made a payment arrengment and gave them my debit card number only. The next day I told my best friend and she asked me if I had any documentation of all this and I said no she told me to check my credit report basically do my homework on this company then found this site and right away cancelled my card, now they are still calling me like ten times a day and now they said they are going to report my insufficient fund to the ACH. Now I'm ignoring there phone calls and I will just have to wait and see what happens. And they have different numbers or even call from blocked or unknown..be carefull with these peeps they are up to no good makes me sick!!!!!! Thanks:/

I recv'd many messages from the same number,  (720) 588-9868 demanding payment in full w/in 10 days or I must go to court.      Today,  I recv'd a letter giving me 10 days to pay or they will sue me, etc.      It says it i for a credit card I ad & did not pay (which I think is true),  but says " We DEMAND you not contact the former creditor for any reason".

I do not know if I should write them and send copy to FTC or what.

Do not pay anything unless they first send you a debt validation letter - which is required by law (the FDCPA), and which would show the original creditor, amount owed original creditor, date of last payment, and if they are legally entitled to collect said debt in your state.  Since they refuse to give you proof that shows you do owe this debt to them, you can tell them next time they call that they have violated the FDCPA, you are recording their calls (even if you're not) and that you've reported them to the FTC and your state's Attorney General.

Received letter and phone call also from this company. They said I have till today to Friday to make a payment or else they will see me in court. I owe a debt to loan.com for $1500. They do not have the original creditor no more. He yelled at me and hung up after I said that I need proof of valid debt.

Anyone who tries to get you to pay a debt and who will not send a debt validation letter and documentation showing original contract with your signature is a scammer.

Good for you - demand from them a debt validation letter showing original creditor, amount owed, date loan was incurred and date of last payment.  Also demand a copy of the contract with original creditor showing your signature.  If they can't or won't give this to you, then they are trying to scam you.  If there are any "fake" debts on your credit, you can dispute these with the credit agencies.  Bottom line: if a debt collector will not validate any debts you supposedly owe, you don't owe them a thing.

If they call, or there is a number to call, tell them that they by law, must send you a debt validation letter (showing original creditor, amount owed, last payment date and whether they are legally entitled to collect said debt in your state).  Also tell them they must send you a copy of the contract you signed with the original creditor, showing your signature.  If they refuse to send anything, or say they've sent it multiple times (a lie) and that they don't have to send this, then tell them you're reporting them to the FTC and your state's Attorney General.  Let them know that if they call you, you will be recording every conversation (even if you aren't going to).

Because you're sure you don't owe anyone, I'm betting they will refuse to provide the legally required information, so you can ignore them.  However, it may also be good to put fraud alerts on all your financial accounts as well as with the three credit agencies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion).

I got the same letter today. They ask not to contact the original lender, instead to address all communication with this Portfolio Consulting Group. What really scares me is that I just moved to a different state 3 months ago, how they manage to get my new address? I been dealing with these yahoos for a long time, since the phone calls from agent Smith with the heaviest middle eastern accent I ever heard.

So glad I found this forum. I received a letter today saying:
"Please be advised that this office has purchased the debt listed above." (Loan.com)  "We respectfully demand (no such thing as respectfully demanding anything - there's no respect in that) you not contact the former creditor for any reason, instead please direct all future contact to your new creditor."

"This is your official 10 day notice; you have 10 calendar days to remit payment to this office."  Goes on to say they will force legal action against me, blah, blah.

First off, no one demands payment in 10 days.  Second off, who the heck is Loan.com.  Third, how come there's no 800 number for these people.  Last, if I can't find you or your company when I google you - you don't exist.

I know it's scary to think we might owe money to people and we don't want to hurt our credit... But this is what those people prey on - our fears.

They do have a disclaimer that the debt can be disputed.  At the risk of further contact with these unprofessionals, I'm sending them a letter asking for specific information.  No way am I providing any funds to anyone.  No way am I getting into a phone exchange - documentation only.  I check my credit report monthly and this does not exist on there.

I'll come back and post on here when (if) I hear back from these people.

They tried this with me for a debt with JCP/GE capital. CC debt statute of limitations in Iowa is 10 yrs, however, debt buyers fall under unwritten contract statute of 5 years . IA supreme court ruled on this in 2011 in Portfolio v. Feltman. Ha Ha try n sue me cuz I dont have a contract with this company n their time was up in 2009. Tje statute timing starts when last payment is received by the original creditor. They're now xalling from 720-588-9868

I received a call today, they left a message, I could not understand the name they asked for but a prerecorded voice came on saying (Hello, my name is Walter Goodman, I am with Portfolio Consulting Group, I am calling regarding a returned item from your bank. He said I had 48 hours to reply gave me a number to refer to and asked me to text him back).

1st - California statute of limitations on suing you for a bad debt is 4 years.
2nd - You owe a debt as long as you owe a debt; however, it can not be collected after 4 years.

MY ADVICE TO NOT ANSWER OR RETURN THIS CALL...THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THEY HAVE BOUGHT SOME BAD DEBTS FROM A COMPANY OR COMPANIES AND ARE NOW TRYING TO TRICK PEOPLE INTO BELIEVING THEY HAVE TO PAY....  These are just scare tactics.

Check it for your self at http://credit.about.com/od/statuteoflimitations/a/solfaq.htm (go down the page to State List of Debt Statute of Limitations)

I actually arranged a payment plan with this organization but shortly after getting off the phone with them I noticed your comments on this site. I did give my debit card # although no account # or routing #, so I called my bank right away and cancelled the card. Today I recieved a written document in the mail from this place stating the agreement of which I made with them. It looks as though they expect me to sign it and send it back, Good luck with that. I am seriously thinking about just taking it to the police. The address on the form is 10 Four Seasons Place STE 1000
    Toronto, ON M9B6H7
Same phone number but this time they gave me a fax number as well. (888)263-3519.
