SCAM ALERT !!!!  708-761-6250 is the phone number i got a text from with mtycc6i7@gmail.com as the email address that I receiving messages from. This person is trying to scam ME now. Thank you all for the information. I initially said yes I still have the room available but changed it after reading this !!!

Got a text message from "Jocelyn".  Her number is 734-469-5068.  "Is your advertised room/apartment on craigslist still available for rent. Contact via my private mailbox jeunice0@gmail.com If YES & your price.  Thanks. Jocelyn. "  My place is in a 55+ community and it's a house and not room or apartment.  Also the price is listed in the ad.  Will not be replying to whoever this is.  

Wow that was close.  i almost sent her the info she requested. Thanks to this thread and site, I saved myself from lots of trouble.  She used mtycc6i7@gmail.com and her name as Mary Collins.

mtycc6i7@gmail.com is the email address that we're receiving messages from. We're in Ottawa Ontario,  Canada.
This person is trying to scam us now. Thank you all for the information. It's unfortunate the police won't do anything about this here.

This person is pretty bad. It is answering to the same posting for a room or apartment to rent with several gmail address and several names. So far I discover:

What is the scan? Simple, the money order or check are false, normally you will use your bank to cash them, and if your bank does not caught it right-away, you get the money and pay the car-dealer or whomever the person invents, ones you send the real money to this person, you lost that money and the person is laughing that another person got scammed. Your bank will discover the money order or check are false and you will be stack with the money you send to this person.
It has many names, many gmail accounts, similar story about her studies in whatever city, state, and her dad will send the money.
I wonder if anybody reported this incident because I am going to find how this person can get caught.
This person wasted everybody's time as well as scamming who knows how many innocent, honest people.
If you happen to actually have the money order or check from this person, please keep it, it might have the person finger prints.

I have the same email.
Email is very particular in many of the details, which are not correct, going to the University now?
She will not respond to specific questions, when is she arriving, which college/university is she going, etc..
Her grammar is poor, doesn't spell Puerto Rico correctly, does not say exactly where in Puerto Rico.
Same things about her dad and dead mother. And the last email is very interesting: "..well you have to
consider i have not met you before as well , but i put my trust on you having the rental payment sent to you to secure the room with the picture, its a risk for me , but my spirit works and deal with you , please try to put your trust on me and and help me on my arrival .."
I hope the authorities get her, assuming it is a woman.

I also got an email from her saying her dad would send cashiers checks to pay for an apartment I'm subleases. The whole thing didn't add up.  It's a scam, don't do it.

I just got a reply on craigslist from Mary Curtiz wanting to rent my apartment in boston. Same bull story about dad in florida, mom dead (god rest her soul!) Will send a cashier's check?. Unbelievable!

They're still at it. This perfect potential roommate claims she goes to church every sunday, does bible study and likes karaoke...she can't provide an arrival date and wants to secure rent for a year, even though the room is only available 6 months! Mispells Peurto Rico.

They always have a glitch in their emails, previous attempt towards me was made by someone who mispelled their first name, when compared to their email adress..

Oh no, she wants to rent MY apartment ....She graduated from Columbia University but can't spell nor capitalize.  Beware Craigslist people.  She's still at it -

She said she was in peurto rico, her dad is in denver and she goes to college for her masters degree. The ironic thing is that she said she wants to become an international criminologist to study different crime statistics in different countries lol

Oh my God.......me too!!!!!!!  What the hell are they after.....sending a false check will get the FBI involved, especially since they seem (in my emails anyway) targeting Military Bases. And who in there right mind (when it is such an old scam) would cash a check and send the balance anywhere?

Hello to all I also received an email fom the (Jennifer Braid) it's funny for a person who is in University she cant write. i look up the IP location and search her phone number and remote location is not real . If this person was truly looking for an apartment she would send proper email and a photo.

the IP said it was in the USA so it just an attempt to get money using people with pore jugment . They scan university and they use out advertisment to locat room and use you .

Says graduated from Columbia and is in Puerto Rico for private study with EPA. Same story about deceased mom from Spain and dad will pay from Florida. Thanks for adding info to this thread. Helps avoid scams.

Got same sort of message from Jennifer Braid. her dad was to send money from florida.
Also got another one who was sending extra $ to cover car delivery which I was to send on. Not going to happen!

Yes I have received the exact same email/cheque etc. from "Jennifer Braid" go along with it, it costs the person money to ship the cheque. Obviously do not cash it

Beware of this one, most definitely a fraud! I also received a cheque from a company in Mississauga that was sent by courier from  California.  Now she is texting me and getting upset that I told her I knew this was a scam. She seems to be sticking to the same story of being a student at McMaster for microbiology....lol. She couldn't give me an arrival date to move in and ignored questions I had........calling the fraud department for the police now to inform them

Exactly same story here. She claims that she is going to McMaster for her micro-biology Master degree and look for a room blabalbla... They just copy and paste the lines in the email and leave the phone number.
It is apprently a fraud.
