Same here.  Mostly they claim to be a chamber of commerce updating their contact records, and occasionally, they get one right.  Today, following the fifth name on this woman's laundry list, I said that I had other callers waiting and if she wanted to confirm any other information to write a letter.  She was startled for a moment but took down the mailing address.  I got one laugh out of this exercise in futility: I said one of the people was overseas, and she replied, "They're diseased?  Deceased?"  Shortly thereafter, she phoned from 213-271-1645 (another 800notes page) to obtain that individual's number!  I denied having it, but it's really none of their business.

Okay so had the same thing happen today.  I am wondering if any of you have had n issue after this with your identification being stolen, etc.

Did you by chance have anything happen after this?   Your identity stolen, etc?   This just happened to me and I am wondering what I need to do next.

Heavily accented female voice asking for owner, whose name she could not even remotely pronounce. Stated she was with the State Chamber of Commerce, verifying the name of the owner. She repeated that she was calling from the "State Chamber of Commerce" and asking if "(the owner's badly mispronounced" name" was still the owner? Quite rude and aggressive.

Got a call @ 4:00 PM from an Indian guy saying he was with the Dept of Commerce putting together a state directory of employees. I asked for why he was calling, who he was calling for, and what number I could reach him at. He would not give me a number. Person wanted to confirm my name and job title like everyone else who posted on here.

Caller: "May I speak to [name of VP here]?"
Me: "Can I take a message?"
Caller: "Is he not available?"
Me: "No."

Then he hung up.

Indian sounding lady called asking for me by my maiden name (which I haven't had for 6 years).  I kept telling her that was no longer my name.  Then she asked me if I was head of the sales technicians. LOL NO.  SO then she asks for a guy that hasn't worked here in about 5 years.  WTF?!  After about 2 min on the phone with her she still didn't believe that my last name had changed and I was the same person.  Man, them are some "smart" people!  I kept asking her what this was all reguarding and she eventually just hung up on me!

Indian lady called to verify my job title.  Could hardly understand her.  When I questioned what this was about, she kept saying that she was calling from the CA chamber of commerce.  I pressed her for the reason she was calling and she hung up.

723-924-5130 these people who are calling call from VOIP (internet telephone) the best way to stop these calls is to report the time/date call to ttps://www.ic3.gov/?

Same as others here, don't bother picking up.  How did they get my cell number?

Called our office multiple times and refused to leave a message in voicemail or with our assistant. Insisted on being transferred - I let it go to voicemail and he left no message.

Like others, I received a call from someone with an Indian accent asking me to confirm my company and title. He said he was calling from the Chamber of Commerce. He hung up immediately afterwards. The call made no sense to me.

Another 117239245130 scam call - also asking to confirm information from the "State Chamber of Commerce"...like others, they can not give out contact information for me to call back, they can not identify the proper state in which I work, & first question was to "confirm" my job title.  I didn't get to the hear any others before they hung up.  This also got transfered in from our receptionist, as they did not have a direct number.

Got exactly a similar call from an Indian sounding guy asking if you are (title) at (company), claiming he's from some commerce department and updating their directory, then quickly haug up. Anyone knows what it is? Are you guys all working in the technology field?

Guy with accent called and wanted to know web address and physical address. I asked him multiple times what this was regarding and he refused to state who he was, and said "just a customer" a couple of times. Told him not to call any more.

Indian gentleman called to verify an employee's title.  He stated he was from the State Chamber of Commerce.  The employee he asked for would not verify any information and hung up on him.  He then called back again asking for confirmation of another employee's title.  When asked why he needed the information he said he was collecting it for the State Chamber of Commerce.  When asked what State he said Ohio which just happens to be the state our company is located in.

I got a call on 06/13/2013 at work.They told me they were from the Chamber of Commerce.They asked if I still worked in a certain department then called the name of the company. Then they hung up the phone. He sounded like an indian accent.Talked very fast.

Got a call on 6/13/2013 same number, indian guy, spoke really fast, said he was from "State Department of Commerce" he asked if my title was still "xxxxxxxxx", I said yes and he hung up.  WTF?

Same as noted elsewhere on this site - Indian accent and identified himself as from the US department of commerce.  Had my name but nothing else, asked for verification of my work title and then immediately hung up when I asked him why he needed it.

An East-Indian sounding gentleman called from the "State Chamber of Commerce" asking to verify my work title. I asked for what state. There was a long pause and he said Minnesota. I asked if I could call him back and he said no I could not. He then said he would email me the details....

We get multiple calls almost every day wanting to verify name and position of people we have never heard of.  They give various stories about where they are calling from. We have tried asking them to remove us from their data base, but it doesn't appear to work

I have received about 5 calls from them in the last few minutes. It was a man clearly from India. You can hear a call center in the background. When I see the number come up - I don't answer it. They called me back from (661) 748-0240 - I get dozens of calls a day from the 661 number. Another trick is to just pretend you can't hear them. I say "hello" "hello" and just hang up.

received a call from an Indian-sounding man. He stated that he was from the the state of Indiana and wanted to confirm my title. The number on my phone display was 117239245130. I did not provide the information and when asked again who he represented, it sure sounded very fishy.

I excused myself and hung up.

Caller named "Brad" asking to speak with an employee. Claimed to be from the RI Chamber of Commerce. Would not specify why he was calling and eventually hung up when I pressed him for more information.

I called the actual RI Chamber of Commerce. A rep told me that another company was also receiving scam calls.

Caller with eastern Indian accent identified herself as Annie, calling from the MN State Chamber of Commerce, asking about an employee who hasn't worked here for 10 years!  She would not identify where geographically she was calling from and would only repeat MN State Chamber of Commerce.  As I continued to question her, she eventually hung up.

I missed a call from NAME NOT FOUND.  Area code 723 is specific to telemarketers.

An Indian sounding man called on my office phone and confirmed that I worked there then quickly hung up. I checked my phone history and called the number back but only get the real fast busy signal every time.
