I wrote the note on Feb 25th, as of today no one has come to my home or place of business.  I am still getting calls every few days from blocked or private numbers but they don?t leave a message.  Haven?t heard from cryptic Mr. Davis since then either.

Is anything actually coming of this? Here is a transcription of the message I got today:

"This is Ann Moore calling with National Careers of America, we've been retained to issue documentation to you. it does require your signature. if you have questions or concerns in regards to the paperwork, contact the filing party directly. Their telephone number listed on the sealed legal documents is 786-358-6000. We also have a docket number as well, it is 717393.  We must advise you if we do not receive a stop order from that issuing party, they are requesting that we dispatch someone out in the next 24-72 hours. With that being stated, you have been notified as of the 3rd of march 2014.

A few questions come to mind.. first, Google pulls up NOTHING for "National Careers of America" except this site. Secondly, when providing a "docket number" you have to also provide the court it was filed in or it means nothing.
I'm not sure how to proceed. I know I have some old debt but this voicemail was littered with scare tactics and illogical demands.

I recently started a new job with a pay bump and also applied for and was approved for a Capital One credit card. I really hope that doesn't have anything to do with it.

Is anyone finding these things are legitimate? It seems like a huge scam to me.

Got a cryptic phone message from a private/blocked number.  John Davis left a VM saying that he is a ?private courier who is licenses in XYZ County and has a filed and formal complaint that needs my signature in the next 48 hours.?  He said he will ?grant me until the end of business day tomorrow to contact the filing party to place a stop order on his services otherwise he be dispatched to my home or work that is labeled on this documentation.?  He ended the call with a pleasant, ?you have been notified.?

The number of the filing party he left was 727-209-7376 and he did not give that company?s name or declare that he is attempting to collect on a debt.  He also gave me less than 24 hours to respond to this VM which is not a legal time frame.  I am not going to return their call as I don?t respond to threats but I would label this as scammer/zombie debt collector scare tactic.

I just got a call from 727-209-7376. I didn't answer it since I don't know the number. The message said that there were papers coming to me through UPS from Clark County and to call that number and they'd go over everything with me. They never stated the company's name or who they were and what this was about. I looked up Clark County and there is one in Nevada, Washington and so on. No idea who they were but thankful to find everyone's posts on here.

I received a call from this number saying a merchant note was returned with my name and drivers license and to call them back. However, before this call, I received another call saying I owe on a bankfirst credit card for $1838.00. Thinking it was legit, I gave them my debit information as I knew I had one outstanding credit card to pay off. At the time I could not remember which card. They have already debited my account. I have researched both companies on the letter in which they sent me in regards to my ACH payments. Everything I have read about both companies have nothing but scam complaints. How do we get these people to stop calling and making threats? They call from all different numbers!

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Joesph Kennedy from Asset Retention Services/Portfolio called from this number and stated he was advised to contact me if my mothers information was being used and once I confirmed my identity he began to say my mother is being sued and needs to contact him within 48 hours.  He claimed to not be able to give me any information because he will loose his license.  When I asked what his license number was he refused to give it.  Next he called my daughters phone and left a Voice mail asking for me by my full name, claiming that I will be served at my house within 48 hours if I do not call him back.  I have never been late on any payment ever and he is making illegal accusations in regards to a lawsuit against me in a state that I lived in when I was a child.
This is phone harassment.  According to The State of California Department of Justice, Office of General Attorney:
"If you want to stop all contact from the agency you may request that they not contact you again. This request MUST be in writing. We suggest that you mail it certified, "return receipt requested" so you have proof of its delivery. Once the agency receives your letter, its employees can only contact you one final time to explain what action they plan to take. After that, contact must stop. Remember, though, that if you request no further contact in any way, you may leave the agency with no choice but to take you to court (15 United States Code section 1692c(c))."

I DO agree with "not stupid". IGNORE them, block 'em. Complain if you wish, regarding the other post from the guy saying "pay not attention to "not stupid"'s post. We're adults here. If you want to bother going after these numbskulls, do it. They are harassing enough of us someone will. They left me a msg stating that they are with an AZ County Court, and that this company I needed to contact directly - at the SAME number that they called ME ON, that was the number of the "company I neeeded to contact", duh. Decade old debt, they are either trying to refile using illegal bully tactics, or they are just blowing smoke. Merry Christmas AssH*les. I blocked your number, what is your NEXT move? LOL.

I just called them back....THIS IS THE FUNNIEST THING EVER!!!!  What is your "case number"  (whatever).  They told me it was a collection for VISA.  I asked what company?  THEM: Card number ending in 7437.  ME:  You are calling me on a name that I have not had in over 10 years which is past the SOL so you will have to tell me more than that.  THEM:  It was charged off on December 31 (I interrupted her so I never heard the year) ME:  I don't care when it was charged off, check the laws...SOL starts the day of the LAST PAYMENT not when your lazy a** decided to charge off an account. (Seriously wouldn't they all love that SOL).  THEM:  You need to quit talking to me this way.  ME:  Tell me the name of the company because BY LAW I have the right to know.  THEM:  You just do your legal thing, have a nice day and hung up on me.  LOLOLOLOLOL  These guys are scum sucking scammers that should the debt be a valid debt they are breaking the law trying to collect.  (There is no way this is a valid debt for me as I have my credit report pulled often and there is no outstanding credit card).

I just received a call from someone saying they were from National Careers of America telling me that I was going to receive materials that would need my signature and if I did not give this information they were going to be forced to have me served at my place of employment.  They will never receive my signature for anything and just let them come to my place of employment as like the many other individuals being harassed by these individuals I to will ignore their attempts to harass myself and when they call I will turn this onto them and just ask them many questions till they just stop calling.

Just got a call from these guys. As I was talking with them they had informed me I owed a company that I had not done business with since 2004, they said it was a 2008 account. After refusing to give them my physical address she hung up on me (they had my mailing po box). So after reading this posting I called back and asked for "THEIR" mailing address. They asked who I was and wanted more verifying information, I refused said I just wanted their mailing address for my attorney she immediately hung up.  How can you send a "cease communication" notice when they will not give you a mailing address?

Unlike "Not Stupid" back there, I don't think of "ignore them" as a best response, though I totally understand the frustration with throwaway DBA names. If you can extract or find a working mailing address, send a ''cease communication'' notice via USPS Certified with return card. This is the method promoted by the FTC and many consumer watchdogs, who will explain how you can do some damage if that notice is ignored.

Meantime, the FDCPA empowers anyone at your workplace to demand an end to the calls, which is illegal to disobey. The worst extortionists will keep calling anyway, hence the need for an address. It's very likely the caller already had your personal phone number but chose to shame you at work first, pretending you cannot be found. That too is illegal. If you have both a valid address and a pattern of violations, consider suing the fools, on their dime.

This is a very stupid compnay who claims to be a debt collector.  They have been calling me, since 2009, leaving messages on my home phone several times a week.  They always say they are going to proceed with legal action, but they are not because they cannot provide documentation of the original debt and who they should be collecting from, if they were going to sue, they would have done it by now.  Oh and they really don't have your SS #, so they won't report anything to the credit bureau.  They are just trying to harasse you, so you will pay, but don't give them a dime.  They will just ignore what you tell them, and others have reported paying only to have them deny that they received the payment.  They are trying to collect on debt from an identify theft situition.  They have been told over and over that this will never be paid by me, so to stop wasting each others time.  Since 2009, the company name had changed 6 times because they get reported for their illegal collection practices so they are shut down and then they start up again under another name.  My advice to you is ignore them.  They will stop calling in a few months and them give you a few month's break and they start up again for another few months.  Report them to the Federal Trade Commission, so they can change their name again.
