"Free cruise" scam.  I knew it when I got the text message on the phone, but text messages sent to your phone are unlawful under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and FCC rules -- and actually, since the text message appears to be generated from an email server, it also violates the  Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing (CAN-SPAM) Act.  So I decided to call them just to see how long I could get them tied up on the phone and where it would go.

If you stay on the phone long and uh hum them long enough, they're going to ask you for your credit card information to charge the government fees for your otherwise free cruise.  I kept the poor lady on the phone for about 26 minutes, most of that on hold because I had to "go get my wallet from the car which is outside in the parking lot."  She finally hung up and called back from another number.

I'm going to call them on Monday and ask to speak with a manager and make a verbal demand for a settlement in exchange for releasing my private right of civil action against them.  I doubt they'll spring for it, but they'll know I'm serious once I track down an address and send them a demand letter.

I got something similar yesterday (May 2), same #, message was "Congratulations on winning free admission for two! Call today". Are you on Verizon? There seems to be a spate of spam texts to Verizon #'s recently (my wife got one 2 days ago from a bank claiming to be about an account she doesn't have).

This is the number that is included in the unsolicited text message to my cell phone that I am supposed to call to claim my Bahamas cruise. Of course I'm not calling back, and I further suspect that this is a complete and total scam that requires the use of my credit card info.

This is the number provided in the text message that is sent to my cell phone.

The short message is 'S: M:Please claim your tickets to the Bahamas soon !  Call 727.914.1730'

I have not and will not make this call. When I google this number, there is of course no owner.
