Got a voice message  today from Darlene at 732-225-6190. She mentioned that her Director
saw my resume and would like to set up an interview. After checking the number in "Bing",
I saw that it was for the company American Income Life (AIL) - an insurance company. My background
is finance, but I have  worked for an insurance company before. I will not mentioned the name of the company
but I know about some of the practices used by some in the industry to recruit clients and potential agents.

Cold calls to recruit is a common practice to get individuals to attend a no obligation orientation for a
commission based insurance sales job. Specific types of insurance companies offer only 100% commission
(no salary) sales agent jobs. Often there are cash bonuses for an existing agent who can get someone to attend an
orientation and later join the company. Monthly, quarterly or annual contests for prizes, convention and/or conference trips are held all the time. The recruiter has employer status on major job sites and looks for potential candidates. Your resume may or may not have a reference to insurance, sales, finance or marketing. It doesn't matter. What matters is that the individual collecting information from the resumes is looking for volume of names and numbers. It is very likely that for every ten calls or contacts, only one person may show interest. Probably it is much higher ( 1 in 20) for those with less convincing recruitment skills. Of course, the caller seldom if ever mentions the industry or that the postion is commission only. The insurance business is very competitive and the more sales agents in field the better chance of new business. However, there is high turnover. As you can imagine, if your income is based on commission only  and you don't make enough to meet your
numbers or pay your bills, you walk.

Finally, the insurance I am referring to is generally supplemental insurance (not major medical). The difference primarily is that major medical insurance pays the provider (doctor, dentist, hospital, etc.) of the health care service directly. It is also now mandated by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Supplemental insurance pays the owner of the policy directly (or at the direction of the policyholder). Many indiviuals under Medicare get supplemental insurance to cover gaps. For non-Medicare folks, supplemental insurance may be a good way to offset out of pocket expenses you spend when you have a covered sickness, medical or hospital event. But supplemental insurance is NOT Mandated under the ACA. I believe that as result of the ACA and the continuing depressed job market, the supplemental insurance business is losing customers and is not growing as fast as previous years. This trend will only continue. Expect more more calls and recruitment attempts from certain insurance companies because they are fighting for survival. Thanks for your time.

They got your name because they ask people who do show up for three personal and three business references- someone used you as one of the above.  I am supposed to go tomorrow at 10.30 AM, but since the entire call was lies and deception, I'm not even going to bother cancelling, just skipping it.

Got the same call today for a managerial position providing health insurance for union workers, like police and city employees. Everyone knows union workers employment comes with great health insurance benefits.  The person that call me talked so fast that I could not get the name of the company. I knew it was a scam so I agreed to a interview on Thursday Feb 6 2013 so I can get the address and contact names to post it here.  Address is 151 industrial way east  Building C  Eatontown NJ. Interview  with Evan , contact Kayla  if you have any questions at 732 225 -6190 Ext 1805

You people need to do research before babbling about stuff you do not know. Eric giglione is the president of one of the agencies for American Income life and this company has changed my life for the best. I make 2k-3k a week along with making my reps company money.

I received 5 calls in total from this company for two different resumes. They said I was "pre-approved" for an interview and that they wanted to interview me the day before I got back to them, I just did not call them back fast enough. Considering my two resumes were for 1) A cruise ship job and 2) A technical writing job, no, they do not look at your resumes. They also ask you to bring a copy of your resume with you before going to the "interview". To me, that's three major red flags in one conversation. I scheduled an interview for today for 10am and just went to research them more this morning before spending gas and precious time working on my resume. Thank goodness I found this. These people recruit aggressively and give you false hope. They tell you you have a job waiting for you without asking you any questions about your past employment experience at all.  They tell you that you will not have to spend money to get a license because you are already "approved" for a "management position" and that only "sales people" have to do that. They will pretty much tell you anything. Steer clear of these people.

I am so glad I researched this company. I received a voice mail from 1 human resources rep stating her boss saw my resume on monster. I returned the call and was connected to a different HR Rep to schedule an interview. I requested, via a phone call, an email from rep to outline the position. This particular rep suggested I contact a different rep to outline this position to me via email which, I have not received.  I am extremely pissed. They must search resume's to see who has been out of work for a few months, then persuade them to come in for an interview. There is absolutely nothing on my resume that remotely mentions any sales or life insurance experience.

Like the poster above, I have my resume posted on Careerbuilder, and that's how this guy Ralph started off the call, IE "My manager saw your resume posted on Careerbuilder..."

Skepitcal, I looked up both the number showing under recent calls of 732-225-6190, and found alot of comments about a sales postion with American Home Life.

IMHO this is not a legitimate call for an employment opportunity, and I blocked this number and Ralph's cell number.
Odd thing is that I'm not even a sales person...

Because if you knew it was commission based you wouldn't come into the interview. It's funny however since all these folks desperate for work are looking for a "stable job." Unless you are looking to become a plumber or operate heavy machinery, there is no such thing as a stable job, not any more at least. The illusion of job security is much more of a risk than a commission based sales job. But most people are brains washed to believe otherwise. It's hard to un wind that over the phone. So that might explain why they aren't forthright on the phone. Plus industry wide there is like an 80% turnaround within one year of agents. It aint for everyone, that's for sure.

They asked me to meet with them at their West Orange office tomorrow. If it isn't a scam then why don't they just be honest and tell people upfront what the position is? That is pretty sad that they have to mislead people like that.

The company is not a scam. The job is not a scam. Is it for everyone? Probably not. Selling life insurance has like a 90% turnover ratio industry wide. Their recruiting efforts suck, no question, but no one is doing any one any favors claiming it's a scam. Check it out to see if its for you. It maybe, if not, going to interviews in never a waste of time. Sitting on your a** waiting for life to knock on your door is.

Got two calls in a row at 9:45 am and 9:55 am.  Did not leave any messages.  When I googled the number this is what came up.  I see all the other posts about looking for a job.  I did have my resume on Monster.com  ,but that was like a year and 8 months ago.  A little late to be following up for a job.

Got a call from this number on my business line. They hung up when I answered.  When i looked this number up a lot of people said they were told their resume was on line and tried to get them to come in for an interview.  I guess they didn't realize they were calling a business.

ha, maybe you should quit your job and go to one of these scam interviews. Then get back on here and cry how it cost you money to work. These people are scam artists. plain and simple. This website is to make people aware. You probably work for this company and are part of the problem. hey, but you should have a nice day because judge judy said so.

got a call on my boyfriends cell number, which i had on an old resume when i had that number, at least 2 years old. They said they had manager positions, customer service, and snuck a sales position in there. They said i would have to go to the Eatontown location for an interview and when i got there ask for Mike. I didnt remember applying to any such place so I looked up the phone number 732-225-6190, which subsequently, lead me to this website where I was able to read posts from people who were called and given the same line i was given. I appreciate this site, and yes, with the desperation of jobs in this economy, I dont know how people live with themselves in misdirecting people and leading them into scams. Its sad. I'm just grateful i seen these posts before i became a victom. Have a wonderful day!

OMG, thank you all, I received a phone call today and everything what you people wrote  is soooo... true. They scheduled my interview for tomorrow but of course, I won't go, no way.
When I asked woman(Anna)if this was an agency or a company she was not able to answer. I'm wondering how they got my phone. Never sent a resume to work for insurance company. Somebody has to do something with it.

Anyone who doesn't show up for a job interview that is unemployed should have their unemployment benefits revoked. Who are you to be picky at this point? What do you have to lose? Find out the company isn't a good fit? Just go and find out, who cares. It's better than sitting on your butt watching the Judge Judy or something. And you spend your time on this site and think that's productive? Maybe you aren't employable.  I tell you the sense of entitlement some people have is a joke.

Really, John?  All insurance companies have cattle calls and try to ensnare you with sensationalistic sales talk about how much money you can make, buy your dream home/car and take your fantasy vacations by working for them? Don't think so. If anyone is stupid enough to fall for the promise of fulfilled-greed speech, they get what they deserve.

If you work for the company, why is your written English so poor? And why are you so petulantly immature in your responeses here?  You come across as illiterate, or at best, a typical spoiled college kid who never paid attention in English classes -- and that is NOT a good presentation of the company you are trying to defend.  Put it this way, I'd never buy insurance from you.
