Rutgers does not give out any information. The callers are working for Rutgers and only have access to the information for the purpose of making the calls. The reason they might be asking whether you still live at an address is because they may not have updated information for all graduates. Personally I don't think 10pm is that late but that is just me as I am up later than that, I understand it may be an annoyance to those who go to bed earlier. I am an alum and get the calls as well. In fact I found the page because I had a missed call from the number tonight and I didn't recognize the number. I am disappointed to see from some of the comments about the high pressure tactics. Many alums gladly give to support their alma mater because of the impact it had on their lives. However IMHO, they need to do better knowing who has already given and not have such high pressure pitches. My reunion is this weekend, so I may try to talk so some people about this as I am an active alum and have interactions with some of the staff. With how negative people feel about telemarketers, they shouldn't feel like they are talking to one when getting a call from your alma mater. Hopefully this doesn't taint an alum's feelings about Rutgers in general as these calls don't represent what Rutgers was or is about. Unfortunately it is a fact of times with increasingly less funding coming from the state, but they do need to fund a way to do it better.

This number has called every night but does not leave a message and does not say anything when I answer. If it is Rutgers alumni association soliciting donations no problem but be professional.

I think this is completely disrespectful. Calling to see if people still live at their address, and calling late at night.i find it strange and unprofessional that Rutgers University is giving out private information without my consent. This is not enrollment services. I will be giving a complaint to Rutgers about this matter.

These telemarketers (if they are not a collection company they are telemarketers) can only call between the hours of 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM. The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) states it.

I got a call from 732-839-2008 from Rutgers on my caller ID. I did not answer the phone because I do not know anyone from Rutgers. I think the call was completely bogus. I NEVER answer the phone if I suspect a bogus call. If it is important, the caller can leave me a voice mail message.

Real callers. I am one of them. We hate it too. But we do it for the money. And how much ever you scream, its the caller's duty to be persistent, or else we loose the job. There has to be 5 asks: $200, 100, 75, 50 25. Caller cannot skip the asks. One solution: Say yes for whatever pledge but dont give your credit card number. When they mail the pledge, dont give anything. This makes the caller's day as well. The more refusals the caller gets, the closer he gets to being fired. About voicemail, we are supposed to leave voicemails only after every 4 calls. But I know the late night calling sucks!!

Yup just got the call at 9:50pm. I missed the call. Wonder if it was Rutgers.... I didn't even go to school there. I went to NJIT!

Calling until 10pm is ridiculous
Will 2011-06-09 05:22:28 Telemarketer
I used to work for the Rutgers Telefund. They make calls between 7 and 10PM, but most of the administrative staff is not present during these hours. Real people are calling you and when you don't answer, they click a button that says "No answer". It's a horrible job. I quit after five or six sessions. The person on the other end hates it as much as you do.
The money you donate is almost guaranteed to not go towards football. In fact, you can specify where you money goes. You want it to go to the libraries? Done! Want it for the English Department? Done!

Called at 9:50 PM. No message. They're not getting any more of my money. They'll just spend it on football.
Marlaina 2011-06-06 20:56:09 Unknown
This is Rutgers looking for donations which my husband does several times a year along with paying 25,000 a year for our daughter. Thank god this is her last year. This is ridiculous.

Call received from this number many nights - no one there when I answer. Must be robo-calls. Called number and left message to be removed from call list.
bellanonna 2011-06-06 20:56:09 Unknown
They just called me again at 9:45 p.m. Returned their call, and a recorded voice asked that I call back between 9 and 5 p.m. They call at late hours
but will not take return calls the same hours? I asked that they stopped
calling me.
kenny 2011-06-06 20:56:09 Unknown
i once asked them to take me off their list, but no dice. i just paid about 60,000 dollars for school. do i really want to give you more money?
Drew 2011-06-06 20:56:09 Unknown
Same here. Have been getting calls from them recently. This is Rutgers University trying to solicit money from their alumni. Like most telemarks, they don't leave a message when you don't answer the phone.
