Shy to give my name even for this report...757-279-0714 has called a  number of time requesting I contact them to insure they have the details of my case correct. Who they are calling and the man or lady making the call varies from call to call.

Debt Collector
These girl named Alyssa left a voicemail several times stating "she has a very important file" and blah blah. So I called them and the same voice on my voicemail came up but instead this girl stated her name was Daniella. Then she went on to tell me about a cash loan that I took out in 2008 and how I owe $500. There's no way, I could owe anything, because I took out a loan once and paid it within the 2 weeks. So I know this is some kind of scam with these cash loan offices. When I told her I have proof that I paid everything, she told me to fax the paper work. I said I would but she insisted on me having a credit card on file to ensure commitment of payment. What a load of crap!!!! Don't give any info to these people. Total Scammers!!!!!!

Same info as stated...came across my desk and important for me to call them back blah blah blah.. They called looking for my nephew who  1. changed his name to his mothers maiden name  (so it has to be at least something from 10 years ago  2. He lives in another state and 3.Is a minor, so they have no right asking for him to begin with, they should of asked for his mother. It is a debt collector, or at least the machine says Accelerated Financial Solutions

Just got a voicemail at work from "Rachel" at 757-279-0714.  She did not give a company name. Only said she had a matter to discuss with me and gave me a case number.  I don't know any legit company that would not leave the name of the company.  From reading the above posts I'm assuming it is bogus.

Section 809 of the FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf requires 3rd-party debt collectors to give debtors written notice of debt (the key word is *shall*) :
"§ 809. Validation of debts
(a) Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt, a debt collector shall, unless the following information is contained in the initial communication or the consumer has paid the debt, send the consumer a written notice containing?
(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) a statement that unless the consumer, within thirty days after receipt of the notice, disputes the validity of the debt, or any portion thereof, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector;
(4) a statement that if the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, the debt collector will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment against the consumer and a copy of such verification or judgment will be mailed to the consumer by the debt collector; and
(5) a statement that, upon the consumer?s written request within the thirty-day period, the debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor."

A Collection Agent May Not?

Here are the top 11 actions prohibited by the The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act:

Misrepresent Him or Herself

  A debt collector may not misrepresent himself as an attorney or law enforcement officer.

Use the Telephone to Annoy or Harass

  A collection agent may not cause a telephone to ring or engage any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with an intent to annoy, abuse, or harass anyone at the called number.

Threaten Arrest or Lawsuit

  A collection agent may not threaten a consumer with arrest. It may not threaten legal action that is either not permitted or not actually contemplated. In other words, a the threat of a lawsuit may be an empty one.

Use Abusive or Threatening Language

  A debt collector may no use abusive or profane language in the course of communication related to the debt.

Publish a Bad Debt List

  Publishing the consumer?s name or address on a "bad debt" list is prohibited.

Contact By Embarrassing Media

  A debt collector may not communicate with a consumer by post card. It may not use any language or symbol, other than the debt collector?s address, on any envelope when communicating with a consumer by use of the mails or by telegram. A debt collector may use its business name if such name does not indicate it is in the debt collection business.

Contact a Consumer at Work

  A collection agent may not communicate with consumers at their place of employment after being told this is unacceptable or prohibited by the employer.

Seek Unjustifiable Amounts

  A debt collector may not demand any amounts not permitted under an applicable contract or as provided under law.

Contact a Consumer Represented by an Attorney

  A collection agent may not contact a consumer after it learns the consumer is represented by a lawyer.

Communicate With a Consumer After Receiving a Validation Request

  If a consumer sends a written §1692g response within 30 days, the collection agent may not communicate with the consumer until it mails the consumer the requested verification of original creditor's name and address.

Communicate With Third Parties

  A debt collector may not reveal or discuss the nature of a consumer?s debts with third parties other than the consumer?s spouse or attorney. A collection agent may contact neighbors or co-workers only to obtain location information. It may contact a third party again if it has reason to believe the information the party provided previously is false.

Bills.com FDCPA FAQ

Below are questions Bills.com readers ask frequently:

Can a Collection Agent Call My Cell Phone?

  Yes. However, if you tell the debt collector it may not use that number because it is a cell phone, it may not contact you again at that number.

I Keep Receiving Dozens of Calls From Collection Agents. Is That Legal?

  No. Unscrupulous collection agents will use "block parties" or "office parties" where they contact a consumer, multiple neighbors, or co-workers telling them they need to reach the consumer on an urgent matter. This is not permitted under the FDCPA.

A Collector Says I Will Be Arrested if I Do Not Pay

  This was a true statement before the US Civil War, but has not been true since. People may be arrested if an aggressive judge files a bench warrant for a person who does not appear at a hearing relating to a lawsuit regarding a debt. However, in that case, the offense is the failure to respond to a court order, and not the existence of the debt. As stated above, it is illegal under the FDCPA to threaten a consumer with arrest if the consumer does not pay the debt.

"well I have to give it to the Lawyer!"  Then I hung up. she said she was call from some sort of recovery firm.

They just called me today for the first time, leaving a message on my answering machine intended for a person whom I haven't seen nor heard from for over 10 years.They didn't identify themselves nor explain the reason for the call, speaking only in generalities. The message went something like:

"This message is intended for XXX. My name is Jessica. I'm trying to reach you in reference to a file that was received here in my office. I did want to make sure you were fully aware of this matter. If you could please give me a return call at 757-279-0714, my extension is 632."

That sounds like a typical debt collector, but I don't know.. I will ignore it unless they persist, particularly because it is *not* a toll free number. It would cost me something to reply. Most of them quit calling after awhile. Otherwise it may be necessary to return the call and ask to have your number removed from their calling list. Sometimes that works, sometimes not.

They called me at home looking for a person who worked for the same employer as I, over 18 years ago!! Every few years they start calling me about this person several times per day/week  for up to a month at a time. They are insane. I know nothing about this person other than we once shared the same employer.

Get a frightening call from a ?criminal investigator? threatening to ?download your case file? with the courthouse if you don?t immediately pay off a loan you don?t remember getting? Or an e-mail from an ?attorney? saying you?ll be prevented from getting work anywhere in the United States if you don?t call her immediately to settle charges made against you by a payday lender you?ve never heard of? It?s scary because they have personal details about you, perhaps even your Social Security number. But it?s just a scam. Don?t fall for it.

The first lady I talked to was a total c~nt. I tried to tell her I was no relation to who she was looking for and that I was on the Do Not Call List. She mumbled something about 'that don't make no difference if they got your number' and hung up on me. Pissed me off, so I called back. I got a different operator. I said I have no idea who they are trying to call, but I don't know them. She asked what number I called from and said the last operator marked it as not associated to the case they are following.

This company called my ex-step-sister who I have not resided with since 1987, and has lived in a different state for 15 years. I assume it is because the statute of limitations for collecting on a debt of mine is about to expire, and getting any confirmed contact with me (like me returning the call to initiate a cease and desist) resets the clock. Collection law says they only need one way to contact you, and if they have a good address, that is good enough. You should get all collection contact in writing anyway so you have documentation, either by snail mail or email. I will ignore them.

This number is calling me and my girlfriends sister every day. Say that my file just came across their desk and that they want to make sure that I am aware of the situation and take my statement. Wont say who they are or what the case is so I plan on ignoring them. And  your right it is not illegal for a debt collector to call you, but it is illegal for them to call you at 1am!

They called my cell phone looking for me and my husband. I don't answer numbers that I don't know. then they called my children's cell phones. My daughter answered and they told her that a file had come across her desk and they needed to get a statement from us. I turned them into the local police dept. and to the FBI Scam Center. Which I think all people should do.
