A lot of these calls are from people who watch late night tv and have been conned into thinking they can become rich by buying up these notes and collecting them.  They pay pennies on the the dollar expecting to make a lot of money in return.  Doesn't work, does it?  Why?  Because these notes are past the statute of limitations.  

The only ones making money are the people at the top of the pyramid, i.e., the one selling the information.  Same principle as buying the houses and turning over for a fast profit.  Snicker, there's one born every minute.

Same thing...calls all the time but never leaves a message. Called on 5/18 at 2:17 EST - No message.  Called on 5/19 at 4:53 PM - No Message.  Called today (5/20) at 3:17 PM - No Message.  Wish they'd stop calling my cell phone.  I'm not returning a call unless they leave a message and let me know why they are calling in the first place.

This number is from PORTFOLIO - I believe that they are a collection company who goes after very old items.  There is no message left because they believe that poople will call back just to see who it is.

Just got a call from this number.  First time.  Guess I'll be seeing them call for a while.  Maybe I'll answer and give them a bunch of bogus info, changing my "story" as I go until the wise up and hang up on me.  That method seems to work really well for getting these schmucks to remove my number from their database.  They have to explain to their boss why they wasted so much time for no sale.

It's like inviting those door to door religious nuts in and then talking to them about eating cats, book burnings, S&M porn and other crazy things.  They never come back :)

So, yesterday. I decided to call this person back on my cell phone with my number blocked. Well, the recording I got. Said this phone has been diconnected, and no longer in service. Checked to make sure I was calling the right number, and it matched!

How can they do this???

They called my work # and ask for a manager that has not been here in about 5 years.  She said ok and hung up.  They call everyday.

I keep getting them calling my cell phone number too, I called them back and the first time was a busy weird ring and the second time it said the number did not work and I should try my call again. UGH!! I want to know who sold them my phone number!

The phone number 757-961-3547 is a collection agency named Portfolio Recovery Services. They seem to specialize in outdated accounts that no longer show on your reports and will suddenly call over and over about old old debts. They seem to be listed as a legitimate collection agency but use verbally abusive methods and make insulting comments in their collection attempts.

Calls from 757-961-3547 for a person that does not live here.  They have been calling for over 2 years.  I tell them don't call here but they still do.
I said wait a minute and put them on hold and never came back.  I am going to try that then I am going to try blowing a whistle in their ear.  They are that Profillo Recovery group.  They are scum.

Caller ID only says Virginia Call - as I don't know anyone or expect any calls from Virginia, I let the answering machine take it. They left no message, so I checked here. Thanks! Calls all the time different times of day leaves no message.  Would like to know who they are and what they want.  When we call the number it says it is not in order.

They call and hang up immediately.  This is a 10  year olds cell phone they call in the morning.  What a bother.  Say something.

I get these calls constantly. I have unplugged my home lan line phone, since I use my cell phone for majority of the time anyway, but the lan line number is still active. I keep the number to use when I need to give a number. Either way, valid individuals/companies will leave a message and since I have voicemail, I can always pick and choose by a push of a button what to listen too. I never do miss a valid call and if they don't leave a message, all the better. They can call me till the cows come home, they aren't bothering me with annoying telephone rings at odd hours. I suggest everyone do the same. Their dime and time, no skin off of my nose. :) Necessary cost of keeping my lan line active but well worth the not having to hear the phone ring every 10 minutes.

Get calls from this # (according to caller ID) from morning til night. Never leaves a msg. Someone said they are a collection agency. Well, I won't know who you are tryin to collect from until you tell me.

in response to Kristian, You have no idea what you are talking about. They can only report a debt for seven years after last activity on the account.Most states have a statue of limitations for debt. If a debt is past this sol they can sue you for it but you can plead it is past statue and get it thrown out.These creeps buy old out of statue debts for pennies on the dollar and try to collect on them.If you pay a debt out of statue it will make it show up on your credit report for seven years from the time you pay it.To find out about fdcpa google Bud Hibbs. Received this call on my home phone, after I got a company issued cell phone for work (Portfolio Recovery). I started getting hundreds of calls on the cell phone for a woman who was apparently being sought by collection agencies. Imagine my surprise when that cell number was tracked to my home phone number, now I'm getrting the god-damned calls on my home phone! I'll be contacting the do not call registry about this for sure! What's worse, is it's a robot, telling you to call a 1-800 number...you don't even have the opportunity to tell the a**es they have the wrong number/person!

They have been calling for around 2 years on dozens of numbers. Haven't answered yet nor do I have any plans of answering. They are calling about a debt that is over ten years old. Not on my credit report and my report is excellent.

They have been calling my cell while I was at work. Called the number on my caller id and it was disconnected. I used local phone number listed on this site and finally got ahold of someone. The debt they are trying to collect isn't even mine. Its was 4 the person who had my phone number before me. Woman on the phone stated I should not get anymore calls.

Got a call at work. My work number is not a listed number and the girls who answer the main line are not allowed to put calls through. Caller ID listed only this number, with no name. Since I know all the numbers that can get through to my direct line, I knew this had nothing to do with work, so I didn't answer it. Voicemail was left that said "this is a bunch of s**t"

I have no clue who these people are or what they think they are doing but after the 30th call from these morons I finally got some girl on the other end who claimed to know more about my finances than I did (She didn't, not even close). She swore I owed the phone company $276 (Obviously I don't otherwise I wouldn't be online right now with my DSL connection from my own computer). I Was nice an cordial to her, even though she was trying to be a bullying b***h. I simply stated that the Fair Trade Act prohibits this kind of behavior and that I was not only going to contact the BBB but also have an attorney file charges for harassment as well as will violation of the Fair Trade Act. She hung up and I haven't heard from the since.

Actually guys, they can call you for past debts. Your past debts stay on your credit report for 7 years if the debt has been PAID. If the debt is still past due the debt can be listed on your credit report for 21 years. Easy way to get people off your back...pay your bills. I had a $50.00 water bill that I never knew about...collections got a hold of me...paid the bill and everything stopped.

its a debt collector (Portfolio Recovery) for southwestern bell phone company. they keep calling my house about a closing bill from 12 years ago (july 97). they can't report to credit agency nor can they sue since the statute of limitations is up, but they figure they can harrass. i told them if they call again i will file a harrassment case against them. They keep calling me too and even found my address and sent me letters saying I owe for a cell phone from back in 1995. I never had a cell phone until 2004. the people are VERY rude and yell at you if they cant get any info out of you. They are horrible people!!!!!

They keep calling me to collect on a supposed debt from over 10 years ago. When I press them for details, they cannot provide anything. Per Fair Credit Reporting Act, you can request (and they are obligated) to provide proof backing up their claim, and it has to be detailed. Plus, after 7 years, they can do nothing to your credit report anyways.
