I answered this call on the 23rd May.  It was a Roy Bushell (St. Lucian accent) from LIME who went into a sales pitch about a free month trial of Blackberry service.  He already had my personal info, type of phone, my address etc.  All the info he gave is the same as on the LIME official site regarding blackberry messenger such as the rates.  So I said fine I will take the trial month.  He said I should get a notification text within 2 days which would indicate that the trial has started.  It is now the 26th and I have not received any text.  Now I am suspicious.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Got a call from this number at 2:46am, 4:46am, 6:46am and 8:46am.  The 8:46am was answered.  Hopefully no more calls.  Can they set their machines properly, this is ridiculous.

My name is Jane Benfield and I work for The Landings Real Estate Sales Office in St. Lucia.

We have only today found out about these prank/scam calls and would like to inform everybody that they are in no way coming from our office. The phone number 758-452-0272 is not registered to The Landings, nor do we make unsolicited calls.

We have just started an investigation in to the matter and will be submitting a report to the police ourselves.

As you stated above, Cariblist seem to have listed this number next to our name and therefore our name pops up when you Google the number . This is an error on behalf of Cariblist and an email has been sent to them today to change it as soon as possible. This will hopefully remove the connection between the telephone number and The Landings.

Once we have officially reported this to the police, we should also be able to find out from Lime (ex Cable & Wireless) who this number actually belongs to and therefore who is making the calls.

Regards
Jane Benfield

For those of you who believe it is imposible to send visruses to phones, think again. The US and other governments  use embedded software to exactly that as well as being able to download to specific telephones anything they want, and if your phone is internet enabled it is constantly connected. Believe me, it is possible and it does happen. Your phone can be used to track you and can also be used to eavesdrop on you.

in the Cayman Islands the largest service provider is Cable and Wireless.

their  "customer service" people say to report these calls to the police since  "they cannot do anything" to stop the calls. Perhaps if they get enough complaints they will do something

Believe it or not everyone, they are just LIME workers calling, to give an offer for free Data service trials.
It is completely safe everyone! Answer the call, as they are just trying to do their job, unless you don't want to trial the data plans then you can tell them to stop calling.

AGAIN IT IS ALL SAFE!

It's harder than that to transmit a virus to a phone. Especially if they don't know what type of phone you have. In fact I don't even think there are any common viruses today for mobile phones. Also it's pretty much impossible at this stage to hack a phone with a simple call.

What they could be doing is running up your bill and wasting your money.

I don't think they're trying to install viruses on your phone. Read my scam warning reply to francisca at the top of the page.

THIS MAY BE A SCAM. If you return the call, be aware you'll be calling a foreign country at international rates and since FCC phone regulations do not apply in foreign countries, you *MAY* be calling a fee-for-service number in that country (equivalent to US 900-area-code numbers) and they'll try to keep you on the line to rack up charges on your phone bill.

I repeatedly get calls to my cell phone from this number. According to other reports there is no one on the other end and I will not answer the call. I believe that it may be a company or individual using the call to skim or surf the data and memory in my mobile device to strip it of  personal information, passwords, UIN number of the device etc.

In short someone is trying to hack your phone once the connection is made. Be smart folks, these are digital devices and viruses and malware can be transmitted to them once a connection is made by embedding the virus in the carrier frequency or by creatively masking the data burst being transmitted as the sound of breathing or static or machinery in the background !

the program or data or whatever doesn't need to sound like the scream of a fax machine and in a few seconds the virus or malware has stolen your identity, your phone's sim card ID and your phones Unique ID number ( all of which can be used to program another phone and create a clone of yours) and the culprits are on their way to racking up hundreds or thousands of  $$$ in charges to your account or worse.

Whatever the reason, calls from this number or this area code need to be blocked by the local telephone service provider !
